Great video. Thank you. I’ve been here long enough to have a 14 year old. I found getting residency was harder than finding a job (pro tip: marry an Australian!). I was the era where my UK degree didn’t count in Australia, so had to sit through the whole re-exam process, but got a job by just asking. They didn’t even ask for my CV.

    Hi Surina !
Amazing videos. Especially how you have simplified everything in the most realistic way possible . This is probably the best guide iv found in the internet incase i wana move to aus from uk.
Im currently working as FY3 here in uk and about to start IMT1 in aug 🤞.
If possible can u please make a video on training pathways for doctors in australia ? What are the exams involved? Is it MRCP ? . What happens after PGY3/SHO if u want to specialise.
I feel like this road is less travelled so there isnt enough real-life experiences online.
Also maybe make a short video of life outside of work and day to day expenses like groceries ?
Im sorry im asking too much but ur videos and just amazing ! 🌟🌟
    Many thanks !

I don't have any experience of this but m you can google portfolio requirements to get on to training pathways. It is similar to the UK in that you need to do exams and research etc do get points. You also need references from consultants which can take a while to collect. People tend to do few years of non training jobs before they get on to a training programme.
Would love to do more Brisbane vlogs for sure!!

Interesting hearing your perspective on climate. The Brisbane climate was a big no no for me when deciding which location to settle in. I hate hot sunny weather. Melbourne offered the most cooler cloudy days per year of the three eastern capitals. Sydney barely has any real winter and Brisbane none at all.

CASE-2----what steps we have to choose to go to do st1 in australia.which is best and easy way for this.
At last doing a st1 in uk or australia .which one is better , cheaper and in which country we can do easily being an indian medical graduate

Thank you for the very informative video, it was very helpful. I have a question. I did my internship in India 5 years ago and then worked in India for 3 years. After that, I completed the PLAB and started working in the UK, where I've completed 12 months. I’ve received a job offer in Australia and am currently applying for AHPRA provisional registration. For question number 13 on the APRI-30 form (internship or comparable), which internship should I provide as proof? Should it be my internship in India or my 12 months of experience in the UK? If it's the UK experience, what kind of letter should it be, and from whom?

    Hey Surina,
My boyfriend and I have been watching your videos for a long time, and found it really helpful so far! Your videos give us a clear picture for us to decide what we want to do next. we are both Indian Mbbs students, will complete our ug degree the coming year and our mandatory one year internship in our hospitals and we were thinking of working in the uk for 2 yrs after clearing plab and then maybe join australian medical care after that. Both of us are not from medical backgrounds so we’re a little confused on how we’d go about it, do we have to give another exam if we want to shift from uk to Australia? We just want to work in both countries to understand which one would we like working in better since both are great options and it’d be great if you could help us just this bit here, really. I hope you reply, thank you. And I love your videos, so informative and crisp.

@@dddattani8385 hey! I would be done with my 4th yr by March this year. And then 1 yr of internship, after that we think we want to give plab and we’ll see from there, cause we still got no idea where exactly we want to settle next. Maybe if there is a provision of just getting to work in Australia for like some time- less or equal to one year it would help us to decide what country would suit us best in terms of personal and work life. But that we can think of once we get done w our plab and enter Nhs. Will keep you updated, for sure :))

I will complete 12 months of supervised training only in April 2023 and I would like to know when can I start hunting for a job ?
Do I need to wait for one year supervision and then start applying for the job once completed? Or
Can I start applying the job earlier ,mentioning the completed date , to meet the 2023 August intake? May I have your advice here ? Thank you so much in advance.

Some specialties are a "closed shop" in Australia, run by the specialists themselves who form the College and keep out applicants not of their ethnicity, gender or religion.
You might enjoy reading the experience of Assoc. Prof. Munjed Al Muderis, and how he prised his way in to orthopaedic surgery study in WA at RPH.

As a UK doctor now working as a CMO (Career Medical Officer = no college membership): I suspect the main barrier is immigration, rather than training. I’m aware of many non-Australian doctors who gain full registration (by whatever means) and training with Australian colleges. Getting residency is a bit of a challenge - I recommend getting married to an Australian!

Easier to get a job here (I feel there are more gaps in SHO RMO jobs compared to JHO) and also a lot easier to go back to the UK if you wanted to. Eligibility wise I'm not sure I think most jobs wanted full GMC reg which you won't have at the time of applying if you apply in F1.

Why you are not going USA?

      1. Don't want to work in the healthcare system in the USA (privatised, poor work life balance)
      2. Don't want to sit more exams (USMLE)
      3. Australia is high up on my travel list so wanted to explore it whilst working

Be careful. My cousin graduated in medicine in Australia. She even got post graduate qualifications from Harvard in the US. Guess what? Jobs would only last for a couple of years at best in Australia. Not white? Forget about it. The old mates network rules in OZ!

Thank you so much for this, really helpful! I'm an F1 strongly considering going to Australia for F3.
    I have a few questions:
    1. Thoughts on going for 6 months vs 1 year? And how easy is it to e.g. extend a 6 month contract to 1 year? Considering doing 6 months in Australia and 6 months travelling/locumming
    2. How much time off do you get? Do you find that you have the time to travel and explore Australia +/- nearby countries?
    3. How expensive was the whole process of getting into Australia (flights aside I mean things like application fees, visas etc.)?
    4. How easy is it to get a medical job? I'm planning on applying for IMT so ideally would want a medical RMO job. From what I've heard almost everyone does ED which has put me off a bit...
Looking forward to part 2 :)

      1. 1 year doesn't seem enough! By the time you settle in etc 6 months will fly by. More importantly you need to work on a provisional registration for 1 year in order to get full registration, in order to be able to locum.
      2. I get 5 weeks off in the year which unfortunately I have to take in one block. This is not the case for all hospitals or jobs where you can take them off as several 1 week blocks etc. However I haven't taken any annual leave yet and with long weekends/shift swaps have done probably ~10 holidays or so around Queensland and more recently in NSW too 😊
      3. All expenses coming out in part 2 (coming out very soon!!)
      4. All my friends who want to medicine are working in medical jobs out here :) ED may br one of your rotations but by no means do you have to do it. Lots of medical jobs available too.
      Hope that helps!

Be warned Surina. This is still a very racist country. It is full of ex UK migrants, who left there when "the blacks started coming over". I used to hear this in my workplace many years ago....and though there are laws, it still persists. Don't encourage people to come to Australia. It has a population the size of Los Angeles and many newcomers will be directed to go to regional and remote areas.
