The sad thing is Jose Aldo’s record was insane, he went undefeated for 15 yrs l, yet so many only remember him getting knocked out in seconds by Conor. Jose deserves so much respect, for what he did in MMA

Aldo, in his prime was fast enough to slip and counter a damn jab. That’s rare to see even in boxing let alone MMA during the mid 2010s.

For an MMA fighter it’s rare as hell to see. That’s why it’s impressive.

The normal counter for a jab is to come over the top with a straight cross.
Aldo slipped and sidestepped into the outside to counter Chad’s jab with a hook. That’s a way harder counter to pull off.

This was the second mma fight I ever watched. It’s the fight that really brought me into the mma world and made me fall in love with it. Kept thinking how Aldo was such a beast in this one. So vicious with his lightning fast counters, his aggression, his signature leg kicks. Wanted Mendes to win tho. Man seeing this back then was so insane. This is how an mma title fight should really be. This is the kind of fight you should show to a newbie to get them into mma. This fight along with Jones vs Gustaffson 1 and Lawler vs MacDonald 2 imo.
Chad was so good man. He has come so close to beating so many good guys lol. Obviously Aldo is amazing. Now he is boxing and he looks like hes been doing it forever.

This is EXACTLY the fight that changed my view on LEVELS achievable by fighters . when I was watching it long time ago I couldn't believe this is real time speed , combos they throw , highest lvl of counters , list goes on. Masterpiece as it is !!!
Edit : also Dillashaw vs Barrao fight that show me real chess match , how one fighter was able to pin point weaknesses of his aponent and outsmart him into a trap. Masterclass .

I always loved that Tyson-esque boxing from Mendes. Wish we could have seen him do some more bareknuckle
Actually Aldo's striking technique is more close to Tysons peekaboo, especially the way he pivots his hips.
@@DemiAndHisSyndromes I just meant from what I've seen in Chad's pad work leading up to his bkfc fights. I wasn't trying to compare him with Aldo. I'm far from a boxing technician lol. But some of Chad's footage of pivoting and nailing the body reminded me of seeing Tyson as a kid

Mendez and Aldo were absolute beasts before USADA. They both had way more muscle mass here, endless cardio, and incredibly explosiveness, in this fight

There's a difference between wrestling take down defense and and judo/sambo take down defense.
