There's always someone who's willing to dish out criticism, the music Tommy did especially the Metal has allotted him a career and lifestyle that any jealous critic could only dream of.
@@irocitZ well, i wouldn't say hair metal is not a genre, because in retrospect there is a distinction to be made between 80's nwobhm, the hard rock that came before it and the distinct late 80's and early 90's wave mötley crüe was pioneering and being a part of. even if we don't go as far as calling it a genre of it's own, it's still a fairly distinct style of the heavy metal genre itself. hair metal or glam metal, as it's more respectfully (i guess) being referred to had a distinctly larger focus on being upbeat, having catchy hooks and singalong choruses, while breaking the pace with dramatic power ballads occasionally. i say this with zero personal bias, but mötley crüe and glam metal were not stylictically the same as other styles of heavy metal at the time (or before it) and i do believe the terms hair metal and glam metal stuck around, because you can seperate the style the term is referring to from other styles such as the heavy metal, which took shape in the 80's in great britain. yes, people in the bands might not have used terms like hair metal during their hey-day (heck, most bands will tell you they don't care about genres at all) and fans didn't use it themselves either, but a lot of terminology is pinned down in retrospect, when trying to label and measure phenomena of days past.

I love playing rap rock metal and maybe even random game and dubstep beats along with while playing on drums . It's just fun to do . You keep doing the same thing for the rest of your life you might get angry or bored of it . . They act like certain musicians are sell outs just for going out of their way and trying something different . Like how Kid Rock went from rap to rock to country . I loved all his styles of music he was just good at what he did as a musician . I respect for what Tommy and all other musicians when they have to go through type of shit like this . Tommy Lee shares that same outlook just like Stewart Copeland has. Pretty much saying, "I AM WAY MUCH MORE THAN JUST WHAT BOX A FAN PUTS ME IN! I'M A MUSICIAN, AND THE ROOT OF THE BEAT IS ABOUT EVERYTHING OR ANYTHING IT WANTS TO BE."
Tommy Lee is one of a kind love him or hate him he's very talented & loves to experiment with new things & can't stand to be labeled as one particular thing people should be allowed to do different things & not get a lot of flack bout it
When checking something "new" out you have got to keep an open mind. So remember the next time you listen or watch something you haven't before shut up,listen/watch the whole thing through and then give your opinion on it
I'm one of those people who would probably annoy one particular group of Metal purists if I told them I found out about Tommy Lee through him being friends with deadmau5, I guarantee the responses would be either "that prick?!" or "eeew, EDM, how the fuck can you like EDM?!" but here's the thing, there is no rulebook that says you can only find out about an artist in one or any set number of specific ways, and boy am I glad there isn't; as mental as this sounds there are going to be people out there who find out about Motley Crue through Tommy Lee being friends with deadmau5 and whether you like it or not that person might end up becoming a fan of Metal through EDM. It's incredibly petty to be a Metal head who has an issue with other Metal heads just because their first love was a completely different genre that you don't like.
I was going to comment who cares bout what a Tommy Lee says but after watch the video good on him. Why be stereo typed into one type of music. It’s a free world and if that’s what he wanted to do why not. One of the most sensible conversation I’ve hear from him in a long time.
He was expressing an aspect of his personality... so I can understand him. It's called "expressing the truest form of YOURSELF as a human being." Think about it ❤️
WAT METHODS OF MAYHEM WAS FUCKING GREAT I guess I was too busy rocking the fuck out to worry about what other people were thinking since I wasn't the one who had to do it for a living.
People talk a lot of shit about nu metal, but honestly, it's personally my all-time favorite genre. Mostly because of how bands like Linkin Park introduced me into rock and metal music as a whole, but also because there just something about the cosmic mixture of metal, grunge, hip-hop and other genres that makes it really stand out to me. I also like the variety and diversity between the bands. You have your Limp Bizkits with their funky hip-hop metal sound and boisterous lyrics, your Slipknots with their heavy sound and harsh screaming, there's the rare experimental bands within the genre like Deftones and SoaD, and also the more grungy stuff like Staind and Seether. Nu metal has a lot of bad, don't get me wrong. As someone who's scoured the entire genre for bands worth listening to, I can name a few utterly terrible bands. But don't let the bad outweigh the good. Try it: If you love it, that's great. If you hate it, that's fine as well. Everyone has different tastes, after all.
even though you're right about a lot of things...you also forgot about KoRn being one of the pioneers (and still keeping the genre alive) and they paved the way for bands like Linkin Park, Staind, Seether, etc... KoRn in my honest opinion (besides Limp Bizkit) is like the core of Nu-Metal and is still very much playing their asses off to this day and getting better with each album

Whether we like it or not nu metal is apart of rock n roll history. And yes like someone said on the comments, not all of it was bad. Bands like disturbed , godsmack n slipknot to name a few are still around and are the ones keeping rock alive. What happened with nu metal is what happened to pop metal in the 80s, it got silly after a while and everyone wanted to sound the same , like solos and hair in the 80s , with nu metal everyone wanted to tune down and play 7 string guitars
Tommy Lee, you have been great for years with Motley Crue and I loved it. I got bashed by my friends when I said Planet Boom was a top 10 Motley song. Keep doing what you want. I just went through the New Andro album and most of it might not be my thing but once again you did it. You Dancy is a great song to me, it has that heavy groove sound and there are some others that are really good too. I hope you keep going with what you want and also do more stuff with Motley as well.
I love how Tommy is in his 50's but still dress as a teenager.
You can get away with that when you are rich
Yeah, but I thought 50's was the new 30's. No?

Tommy: Rockstar 24/7
After listening to him for 2 minutes it’s easy to see why it’s hard for the band members to get along.
I love the fact that Tommy never stayed in one box. Its awesome when artists can branch out and try new shit. Good for him..Crue 🤘🏼🎸🤘🏼
Great interview! Love Tommy
The "shit" that came out of him was definitely "shit". Tommy speaking the truth👏👏👏
The contrast between the laidback and articulate interviewer and Lee's manic incoherence is quite amusing. 😁 Good to see Lee still going strong, his musical reputation will forever be tarnished but the Crüe and their time sure was a lot of fun.
I just didn't like the era where tommy was acting like he was black...
Hilarious
moresnare he never acted like he was black ? How old are you 12 ?

Have that 1st Methods Of Mayhem and liked it . It was killer and the start of nu-metal which i like . Fans of hip hop, metal, punk ,thrash ,nu metal even country . Music is music to me . DGAF what it is . If it sounds cool and i`m digging it i`ll buy it .Props to Tommy Lee for thinking outside of the box and creating some dope shit .
New metal rocks here's a perfect example motionless in white it don't get no better than that even though I know there's tons more but that's one of my favorites
Shocker: Not all but-metal is bad
I agree. Bands like static x, early linkin park, korn, SOAD, are all pretty good
This is either a typo/predictive text take on Nu-Metal or Butt-Metal.
I'm going with Butt-Metal. FartXcore.
I need a cigarette right now and Tommy is just waving it in my face for five minutes.... at least he lit it in the end jeez he makes that cigarette look so good!
Have fun getting lung cancer
Yes we will, thank you
Be better if it was J
Those first 2 solo albums TLee made were absolutely amazing...I wish he never stopped making Rapmetal music....I still listen to those albums regularly
As a drummer myself he's got reasons to be mad about this . Hate how certain musicians get treated stupidly and horribly just because they go out of their "famous genre " they were known for . Like people can't live with the fact that they think that he has to be Tommy Lee from Motley Crue for the rest of his life. Not as just a musician . Let a musician be a musician not a puppet .
I remember getting a promo cassette of methods of Mayhem not knowing who it was but I loved it. Had the track get naked. It was only later on that day I found out it was Tommy. I still think it's awesome!!!
I remember buying that record in stores and thinking damn this is fucking badass we need a new m.o.m record
I'm my opinion Tommy Lee has never made any bad musical decisions
Combining two genres and putting it together is awesome rock rap and hip hop together with different beats makes music so much better and the new sound to it is fucken awesome
idc i love numetal thats my childhood....95 - 00s so much memories deftones, korn, slipknot limpbizkit, linkinpark
I saw Methods of Mayhem on Ozzfest 2000. They were embarrassing. Everyone was sitting in their chair for their entire set. Tommy Lee tried to get us to stand up & get into but we were all falling asleep from boredom.
Dude Methods Of Mayhem WAS way ahead of it's time. I loved that album and still do. Fuck the haters.
I seen him in 2000 or 01 or whenever he was at ozzfest(San Bernardino). Methods of Mayhem. Pretty good live but still never got too into them.

I love the fact that as an artist, you can release what ever you feel like and not be set in a box from you previous work .. so keep up the good work Mr. Lee!!

0:44 Damn I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rocker so fuckin cheesed with an interviewer’s question before!! Lmao Tommy is chomping at the bit to respond to this question and yet he’s so chuffed he pauses to compliment Graham - TWICE - before answering !! 😄😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Deftones is obviously The best Nu Metal band Of All time.
For me it’s Deftones and Korn. I can’t put one over the other they are just right there together at number 1
Nahhh Korn
@Chalky Von Kekian jajaja yeahh right

Korn is mediocre the first two álbums was good because The darkness but "Follow The Leader" sound very mainstream and from then On It was basically pure nonsense Pop Metal until "The Serenity Of Suffering"

Listening to to methods of mayhem in 2024 .. EXCELLENT!!
I am still jamming that record. Everytime I work out
Methods of Mayhem released one of the worst singles ever by any artist in "New Skin". I saw the music video back in the day, and was like "they think THIS is catchy?"
Relax Tommy, you were just experimenting, It's all good bro, you just keep playing drums Ok?, YOU ROCK BRO
I was just bumpin that cd loud as fuck a second ago, didn't want it to be worthless plastic hahaha! I love the album, I'm glad you made it
Tommy love and respect to you brother! You do you bro. always been a fan always will be. you are a stand up dude! And a Inspiration to many musicians.
I love the new remix of Tommy Lee with Tyla Yaweh and Post Malone. Now that’s genre bending!
I love Methods Of Mayhem. I love genre-blending. Two kinds of music:Good and bad. Love Motley Crue, and all the side-project bands or solo albums that have grown from it. I think Mick may be the only one that hasn't done anything outside of The Crue, although I realize he had a career before them.
Holy shit Tommy's camera quality is amazing
I think every time a new genre or sub genre has come along there has always been a lot of people giving it crap only for those people to either quieten down or suddenly find themselves liking the new music. Even something like Classical music probably took a few years before it became this big thing that everyone felt they had to listen to.
Graham should bring back Headbanger's Ball
I loved his Never a dull moment album.
I loved the Methods of Mayhem record. It was badass! And I take pleasure in knowing that I introduced it to some of my younger friends. They liked it also. I was listening to it one day and they asked me who it was. I told them it's fuckin' Tommy Lee bro! I really liked his other albums sans the Andro album. I'm not sure but I'll give it another listen later on. LOL But, Tommyland and Never a Dull Moment and the Methods of Mayhem stuff was great! His show when he went back to college was hilarious also!
I was just listening to the first album of MOM and he’s right that record is fuckin special and just raw explosion of ideas. Yes it tapped into the numetal at the time but a lot of ppl were into that at the time. Rap rock was huge and just cuz it ended doesn’t mean some of it wasn’t fuckin awesome!
anybody that could play the drums.....UPSIDE-DOWN....
can do whatever the fuck they want with music! \m/
I'm a fuckin drummer!!!! I do everything with rhythm!
- Tommy Lee
Man I wish he started a band and did what slash did with velvet revolver I love that band
he is 100% right, that MOM album was ahead of its time.
Tommy Lee is one of a kind love him or hate him he's very talented & loves to experiment with new things & can't stand to be labeled as one particular thing people should be allowed to do different things & not get a lot of flack bout it
Im glad to see Mr. Lee has mellowed a bit he looks healthy.
It's incredibly petty to be a Metal head who has an issue with other Metal heads just because their first love was a completely different genre that you don't like.
imagine rolling inside a cage while drumming like tommy
Imagine a cage fighting match occurring in his drum cage as it rolls around.
out here in Australia there is a huge nu-metal movement that is only getting bigger, nu metal didn't die, it just moved to Australia :)
The 1st MoM record with TiLo is amazing! It's a shame they split.
If you guys are into new metals you should check out Graphene.
I really liked Methods of Mayhem. It is better than a lot of Nu Metal, especially Limp Bizkit.
lol methods of mayhem sucked + was in no way "ahead of its time" it was just a shittier version of what other bands were already doing at the time
I Had it at the time, Remember getting it on Cd from my Local Music Store, and I kinda liked it. Better than DeeDee Ramones Rap record anyway 😂.
I was going to comment who cares bout what a Tommy Lee says but after watch the video good on him.
Why be stereo typed into one type of music. It’s a free world and if that’s what he wanted to do why not.
One of the most sensible conversation I’ve hear from him in a long time.
Hold Me Down Is a GREAT song. Fucking great.
Yeah, you made a song called "Get Naked", Tommy. If I were you, I wouldn't try and defend that one. Embarassing.
He was expressing an aspect of his personality... so I can understand him. It's called "expressing the truest form of YOURSELF as a human being." Think about it ❤️
By the same logic, his whole career, but the '94 album, is like that.
Yeah that song was hella corny lol 😂
The song was funny to me.
Ahead of his time. It was like everything of the time
I don't care what anybody says, I liked Methods of Mayhem.
Start promoting new musicians !!!
Most drummers are into alot genres of music.
Big Daddy T-bone is planet boom🥁 he's always keeping it on the one hundo
Motley isn’t Metal it’s hard rock
But what does Corey Taylor thinks about it.....?
WAT
METHODS OF MAYHEM WAS FUCKING GREAT
I guess I was too busy rocking the fuck out to worry about what other people were thinking since I wasn't the one who had to do it for a living.
@@Awood2207 Whoops, almost forgot about them. Thanks!
