    You're literally the reason my beardie is so social. I started watching your videos before getting Bayou so after I adopted him (at 2 years old) I made sure to socialize with him that day and everyday after always bringing him around people and new places! Worked like a charm after a couple days he was no longer timid and now always goes out with me 😋

    • @lightningmcgeequeen8091
      @lightningmcgeequeen8091 3 роки тому

      Yes this. I don't have a bearded dragon and I'm not sure I want one, but like any animal it takes a few minutes to do basic research on how to care for it. Most poor beardies just sit in a little box all day and do nothing, and it's sad bc the owners not only think that's okay but also that it's normal behavior for that animal😩

    • @ryancentnarowicz
      @ryancentnarowicz 3 роки тому +1

      Also make sure you find a vet that treats Bearded Dragons before you get one. I learned that the hard way when I called a bunch of vets in my area to find out they only take in Dogs and Cats they don’t have the knowledge or experience to treat Reptiles. I had to drive a distance away to find a Reptile vet!

    • @lightningmcgeequeen8091
      @lightningmcgeequeen8091 3 роки тому

      @@ryancentnarowicz yeah and sometimes those who say they take certain animals don't actually know much about them. When I had rats a few years ago I called a vet nearby to see if he dealt with rats and he said yes. When one of my babies got sick I took him to this vet and he said he didn't know anything about rats and couldn't really help. He gave me antibiotics but my rat didn't have any kind of infection:/
      Not to mention he told me to put it in the water bowl that I change twice a day so it wouldn't have helped anyways.
      Long story short, be very sure your vet knows what they're doing with your animal and be prepared for the worst incase you need to take the animal to the vet

    • @ryancentnarowicz
      @ryancentnarowicz 3 роки тому

      @@lightningmcgeequeen8091 Yea when I got my Bearded Dragon it was an impulse buy I wanted to take him to the vet to get him checked out and called all my local vets and they said they don’t treat Reptiles they only treat dogs and cats. I finally found one and it was a further drive away but worth it! My Bearded Dragon lived a good 9 years! In my opinion people say Bearded Dragons are easier to take care of than Dogs but I think finding a vet for an exotic makes it harder to care for than a dog!

    Before I got my leopard gecko (and its the same right now with beardies), I was doing a research for at least 5 months... I think its very important to listen to more and more people's opinion, and then make yours (obviously after doing research!). And I think everybody should do something like that, because its basically the same as children (I mean I guess, I'm 13 so I don't really know, lol), you can't just get a child like "Huh, this seems cute, let's get one!"! They are our cute small four legged children, we should act like that!❤

    My husband and I were talking about getting a bearded dragon for a while. Did a lot of research and everything before deciding. We were going to purchase one, but then my brothers gf(she has two bearded dragons) has a friend who knew someone who had one. She wanted to get rid of her bearded dragon. She didn't want him anymore. Anyways we were told he was full grown, but when we went to pick him up we found out he was a baby. She apparently had him for two months. But he was tiny.
    We ended up finding out the only thing she was feeding him was the tomato pellets and dried mealworms. Nothing else for the two months she had him. She also had a constant red light on him day in and day out. He also never shed before so she thought he was full grown. He has shed for us.
    We've had him for a week. For the first 2 days he would freak out about being held, but now he constantly wants to be held. His enclosure is sadly a 20 gallon tank. (He is about 9.5inches at the momemt), but we will be making him a much larger two story enclosure that he will be able to grow into. We think he is about 3 or 4 months as the pet stores around where i live sell bearded dragons at 2 months of age or older. It took us all of about 5 hours to get him to eat his first chicket ever in his life and after that he ate another 4. He usually eats around 4 or 5 every few hours though thankfully. Sometimes he will eat a 6th, but not always.
    Oh and he is sassy(we named him loki). He is a bit of an attempted escape artist(he tries to open his enclosure as he has one that just slides open from the top). He also hates when his tree is taken out of his enclosure and tries to jump or slap at it.

    I love this video! I suggest to any one wanting a bearded dragon that you understand their cost to feed when full grown. A good way to cut costs is to breed your own feeders! Such as a colony of dubia roaches, crickets, and meal worms! They also can develop a calcium deficiency so a UVB light is important!

    Good video, like you said handling is the key. My bearded dragon named Drako is soooooo laid back. When I took her to the fair a few times. She would just hang out on my shoulder the whole time, and when I used to work at a pet store she would sit behind the counter and watch everyone. She is now 13 years old and has turned into the house cat. Meaning she runs around the house, goes potty on the linolium floor, and is a cuddle bug when she is in the mood. I just love her, also she is a mama's little lizard, she likes everyone, but "deals" with dad. lol

    I recently rescued a dragon and he is about 3 years old, fully grown and he was living in a 10 gallon tank with mulch and a rock with just a uvb no heat. He also used to only eat dried mealworms. He is now living like a king in a 75 gallon tank with tile bottom, 2 basking spots, a big climbing tree, a big hiding spot and plenty of fresh veggies and insects :)

    I have an Australian silk back bearded dragon. He likes superworms and various greens. He don't care much for crickets though, witch is great, because I dislike them as they're very fragile, pricey and stinky. I'm usually gone all day. However, I spend time with my dragon in the morning and evening. He is very laid back and loyal. At night my room stays around 74 degrees F. At times he likes to lay near me during the night. Once he's sound asleep I take him quietly to his enclosure to wake him in the morning the following day. Another thing is when I have a new food for him to try or hand feeding him, he sometimes doesn't come after the food, but he stays calm and opens its mouth half way for me to put the food in for him. He's such a cute baby. He loves his electrolyte baths I give him also. He doesn't eat other vegetables, but greens he eats. So I gut load the superworms with them vegetables like carrots, mushrooms, and bell peppers, and then I feed my beardie those superworms to put the nutrients in his diet from them vegetables. I also add calcium powder on his foods time to time. He's now 1.5 years old and he weighs 300 grams and he seems super strong with good health and appearance.

I have no previous experience with any kind of lizards but really its common sense if you're paying attention to them . Temp , water , food, sand and healthy spending is what I looked up to get started since I've watched and done a few things to add to his enclosure . Max is my bro wish I'd gotten into them sooner

    Another bit of info people generally don't seem to know is that lightning bugs are like cyanide for lizards. I lost my beardie to a stray lightning bug that managed to crawl into the enclosure through the mesh I had over the vent holes. By the time I had him checked out it was too late.

I also socialize her a lot either it be letting my siblings hold her or it's going outside when it's nice out and sunny and let her bask in the sunlight

    For greens My dragon loves bok choy. I found a vegetable salad called Oriental mix, it also came with the sauce packet which I clearly threw away. But it’s a nice variety and most of it my Dragon will eat and it’s all good for her, and I agree about putting fruit on top because it’s the only way she’s going to eat fruits, even sometimes I put her roaches in the vegetable bowl so she’ll eat them there!

    i consider myself really lucky with mine in terms of eating his veggies. sure I did go over a process to see what he liked, i tried A LOT of things. but iv had him for about 4 months now, and for a couple months he has been consistent with collard greens and squash :)
    But defintetly it is a process. sometimes some beardies are REALLY picky with veggies, you just have to keep trying. some beardies even dont even veggies AT ALL. I had one a long time ago for some years, as much as i tried he would never touch veggies, so every once in a while i would force a little bit, just a bit.
    Also, if your beardie just wont take any veggies, as long as your feeders are well gut loaded, and dusted, at least that its more nutritional than just crickets without gut load.
    Another very important thing or two you mentioned, bearded dragons are very good at looking NOT sick. In the wild a sick beardie is a very vulnerable beardie. BUT, literally almost anything a beardie will do thats just out of the ordinary/normal routine, will make you think he is sick. It is totally OK if, for example your beardie is a bit more lazy one day, or one day he eats a bit less, or he doesnt poop for one day instead of every day. Beardies can change attitudes/moods overnight. One day he might be lethargic, or eat less, etc, and the very next day back to normal and eating like a champ, mine does that sometimes. So unless your beardie is doing the lethargic/lazy/eating behavior for a couple of days straight, or a week (rule of thumb for me:of beardie keeps doing same bad thing for 1 week, then take him to vet), then sure take him to the vet. But wait a few days if he is acting strange, 95% of the time is just a normal, typical lazy day for a beardie, which there will be a lot of.
    very informative video!
    but seriously, sometimes my 9 month old will look like he is sick, just laying flat on his basking rock not moving, as soon as i get a superworm near him, he goes crazy.

    My one like pellets, I have tried everything when it comes to veg and fruit but he barely eats any of it and much prefers his locusts so I give him pellets so he can still get a lot of his nutrients and every thing he needs from the pellets but he really loves his locusts but with the pellets you really need to make sure water is easyily accessable because the pellets are dry
