My (public) schools had instrument lessons & chorus for vocals (from k-12).
I took chorus, clarinet & piano lessons.
They really need to see the importance of the arts for children and bring it back into ALL SCHOOLS.

Fred the Lord has used you to minister to me in ways that bless me to this day. From the 90s to now your albums have been a voice to my love and worship of the Lord. When i didnt know how to pray i knew how to worship, when i was afraid and dont know how to express it to the lord I'd literally sing Jesus be a fence. The Lord has been so good to me and i had to leave a comment after revisiting the inner court album. Sir, thank you for using your gift for the Lord, to bless his people and wave the banner of his name! You are one gospel artisit i dont have to worry about, you sing the word and the Lords presence greets me every time I listen.

OH MAN!! This taking back down memory lane. Commission, Fred and radical for Christ. The "In The House Series". Worship in the house, Praise in the house, Glory in the house, Word in the house, Shout in the house."Fred's Christmas Cd, "Strange way to save the world". Anyone remember buying these Cd's? Fred put out the best Praise and Worship music. Anointed,gifted song writer, musician and producer. Llove and apprewciate you Fred Hammond. Your ministry really impacted my life. Your music timeless, still playing it. Praying you do another praise and worship Cd with Keith Staten and the crew. (Anyone doing Cd's anymore?)
those 'in the house' series were the foundation of my musical journey. I still play them from time to time
Same here brother. Sadly i don't have any of the hard copy (Cd) any longer so I listen to them on youtube time to time. Those were some great collaborations Fred did with Integrity music and Don Moen. Do you remember the "tribe of benjamin" ensemble? They had a cd titled "Your Love Is Extravagant". It was from the integrity worship label also.@@iamfemo
Show yourself strong is one of my all time favorite songs!
Another thing about learning back in the day is 1) many families (especially with multiple children) could not afford a teacher. You could have talent or an interest, but if you had no one to teach you, you had an uphill journey. You also had some older musicians who tried to gatekeep knowledge. They wouldn't teach you what they knew because they wanted to be "the best." Today, you can learn almost anything on UA-cam. Even professionals you couldn't reach are showing tips & tricks online.
2) Nowadays, you have rewind, slow downn apps that remove other instruments from the song, screen prompts & cameras and HD showing the actual fingerings, etc. Back in the day, cassettes were the big flex. Being able to rewind was a luxury. We had 30-second commercials and radio stations where you had to call in & request a song and listen for that lick ONCE, then hope they played the song again in the next hour. Nowadays, you want a song? It's at your fingertips. You don't know the song or artist? Shazam it. We wore out tapes & scratched CDs (and used CD cleaner) trying to hear that lick or movement.
3) Sheds are addictive. Seeing other kids do something well makes you want to do it. The closest thing we had to sheds was the 30-minutes after church while your parents was still talking to everyone, or after a revival when multiple churches got together, or after a concert. That exchange of information & display of talent was contagious.
But mainly, 4) digital brought the cost of learning and making mistakes down. Imagine the cost of cassettes, 2" reel-to-reels, studio time, etc. Media was expensive. Mistakes were expensive. They don't understand the "splice tool" they use now, we actually had to cut physical tape we made & reconnect it with silver mylar tape. And you could only cut a recorded track once. Instruments were expensive. Nowadays, kids have DAWS for free included with entry-level computers, and in their phones. Instruments are getting cheaper. A MIDI controller & a phone or iPad can take you a long way. There are 3D-printed instruments. Technology and access have brought learning & studios to the masses. What the original 4-track recorder and synthesizers did for us, smartphones and tablets do for them. And they are still evolving exponentially.
