I can't say for certain but there is a possibility she might be very traditional. My grandma has trouble telling my grandpa no to things because he was always in charge and they tend to get a bit aggressive as their mental clarity fades. They don't understand why they can't do certain things and have the potential to lash out. It could make them a bit fearful as well. It doesn't justify it but someone in the family needs to step up and do what they can to try and alleviate the situation.
