I like the magic system too, and think it's a fairly interesting world. Characters are eh for the most part, wouldn't say I dislike most of them though.
I'm just not fond of the overall writing.
I could never be a mage in that universe my mathematical abilities aren't strong enough. xD
the magic is even better after reading the novel. The novel doesn't give pretty images like the magic in the anime but provides am much deeper understanding on how it works. Together they make it awesome

I also liked the anime's concept of magic, but the main character is...well, without any question whatsoever, a Martie Stu (the male equivalent of a Mary Sue). He's just...boring as a main character, because nothing ever challenges him if he takes it seriously, and he lacks the kind of internal, emotional, or abstract conflicts to make up for that. There is no real conflict to his character or development, which is annoying and boring. The fact that he has an auto-self-ressurect and healing ability on top of being able to literally resurrect others from the dead, as well as the ability to instakill anyone he chooses to with ease just kills most of the conflict in the combat side of the story, too.

@@vincentlam5594 The writers are probably going to make changes to the anime that wasn't in the manga cause every manga vs anime will have differences that the writers decided through audience reasons or rulings of airings or whatever, so there is no point reading the manga if the anime is gonna do something different.
When you're such an old subscriber that you remember the original version of this and are blown away by how much your work has evolved.

I think I have re-watched this anime more than any other. Its just so well done. Of course Tatsuya is overpowered but the characters and story is so well put together. There is a ton of lore that isn't explained in the anime but even so the amount the anime explained is enough to make the show stand out amongst the others.

Isn’t he devoid of emotion in exchange for his ridiculously broken abilities to begin with. All a result of his family experimenting on him. Or are his emotions purposefully being suppressed so that he can withstand the awful strain and burden it puts on him? The guy literally backs up older versions of himself and his friends in order to bring anyone back from the point right before they are killed. In exchanged he has to deal with excruciating pain each time he uses it. As he takes their injuries upon himself amplified by a ridiculous amount in terms of pain.The guy in a sense is like a super computer.

It's never entirely explained in the series or Light Novel why his emotions are crippled. The experiment on him was supposed to enlarge his "magic calculation zone" which would have made him a more versatile mage. However instead it gave him the ability to constantly perceive everything as information which is where his decomposition and regrowth abilities come from. When he uses regrowth (which can save someone from anything short of death, apparently once the person dies his ability can fix the body but not whatever it is that gives a person "life") He's basically reading them like a github record of all the changes made to their information in the last 24 hours and resetting the information to the last time they were in perfect health. The pain aspect isn't amplified so much as compressed which is what makes it worse- imagine feeling several hours of pain compressed into half a second. Miyuki was created as a perfect genetic match to him and his mother used her unique magic to amplify the emotions he felt for her (which unfortunately crippled all his other emotions) because they were afraid of his potential for destruction.
Not that the fear is unjustified, I mean he created the equivalent of a megaton nuclear blast by using his Material burst spell to convert a 50 milligrams of material directly to energy and it didn't require much effort on his part. With a few pounds he could probably trigger a gigaton explosion which would destroy the planet.

@@ecoliukplayzmc7617 I'd have to go back through the LN but the impression I got was that the emotional handicap was an unexpected side effect of manipulating and artificially expanding the magic calculation area. They'd been intending to make him a stronger magician all around instead he developed the decomposition and regrowth magics instead.

The reason why Miyuki is so obsessed about Tatsuya is because Miyuki died in her childhood and Tatsuya saved her with his magic after that Miyuki started thinking her life is only for Tatsuya to use.

Well, you could also say that it's *irregular*.
That 'irregular' experience is naturally due to making the abridged version of a series that was rated as one of the top ten light novels of the decade (so basically, worst version of the best). You need to make like a 100+ episode anime adaptation to do justice to such a series.
