Thank you, thank you. The common 'youtuber' style of making instructional videos feels like many of them have lost their ability to be genuine people on this platform. Thanks for your real human approach without all of the flashy editing and forced drama. Very refreshing. Now, excuse me while I unfollow a bunch of yelling youtubers with ExTreMe thumbnail pics. I have seen the light.
I am SO thankful I discovered your channel and so very grateful to you, Rick, for taking the time and making these videos. Everyone one of these is a master class on a specific topic. Superb and informative content my friend. Big thanks .
Thank you so much for this information. I was wondering where do you place your kick mic for this type of recording? outside and closed skin I imagine?
Have you listened to African drumming interpretation on the Drumset? If you've not, then you should take time to explore some African rhythms then you might wanna reconsider if Jazz drumming is still the only drumming that can stand alone. 😊
Hi Rick - thank you for your videos. Would you mind telling me which audio interface (or mixer) that you use to plug your mics into for recording? Brand and model number? Thanks!
Great video thank you! ... If you were recording live jazz, with say a trio or quartet, would you use same setup, or would things change to adjust for other instrument bleed?
Hey Rick, just a genuine question, since your video description seems a bit confusing to me: you're saying the cymbals, that you used would be old K's, but I see one or two flat rides with rivets and your Istanbul Jazz Ride in there. Could you kindly tell me what kind of flat rides those are? Thanks in advance! all the best to you. Your sound is superb and your playing is incomprehensibly beautiful
I apologize for asking this unrelated question, Rick . . . But, I've been dying to ask you this: Years ago, when studying with Joe Morello, did you ever get a chance to hear him play violin? Just curious.

Damn you always have the sweetest cymbals

Thank you for that comment.
Kit sounds superb!
This video is a gem of information. Thank you!
Great video and great playing!
Great video, thanks Rick!
Great content as allways!
Thank you so much for this information.

The flow!
Another well-invested 20 minutes in the Rick-Dior-University for the musical gourmet!
Nice. Jazz drumming is the only drumming that can stand alone by itself, without anything else and still be listenable. Dig it.

No
I beg to differ, man
As always a big 👍

I am using Grace preamps into an old Radar 24 system with S Nyquist converters. Thats it.
Recording Tips for the Jazz Drummer:
first - have two u89s for overhead mics
step two - transplant two of your kidneys
3) success
Those Schoeps ain’t cheap, either!😢

I fixed it. It is correct in the description now.
Thanks

No, I did not.
He did tell me he gave that up at a young age after he heard Jascha Heifetz play but he might have been kidding.
