I had a 2018 Ulterra on my boat with Ipilot link with the touch screen remote. The remote is so sensitive that when my shirt brushed against the screen it would make the trolling motor to do things you didn't want it to do. Like deploy in shallow water and it ended up bending the stow/deploy motor shaft. It also locked the remote without me knowing and I was trolling on speed 6 when I saw a big submerged rock, I tried steering around it but nothing happened because the remote was locked. I hit that rock and me and my partner were thrown out of our seats to the ground. Luckily we didn't get hurt but we could of easily. The last time I went fishing the trolling motor failed to deploy, I finally got that to work and then it wouldn't trim up or down. I never got that to work. I believe it fried either the main board or the trim motor board. But, it's still under warranty. So, I purchased the new quest ulterra. That thing is a BEAST. I am still in the installation phase. When I get my 2018 ulterra back from warranty work, I am going to sell it. I hope I won't have any problems with this new motor. I am glad it doesn't have the touch screen remote because that is what gave me all the problems on my old unit. I also bought the MK57 plate for the Quest ulterra. I don't know if I will use it yet because it's really heavy and my boat is a Nitro 170dc. With the new motor being over 20lbs heavier, it might be too much weight in the front with that plate. Plus, I am 330lbs..LOL Thanks for your video 😊 Tight lines Bro
I just put the Ultrex Quest on my boat. The Ulterra Quest design thoroughly impressed me. The Quest series is definitely beast like in quality. We used my buddies Quest in a recent tournament and it was awesome!
I ordered mine a month ago from radio world in canada ontario, hopefully it comes sooner than later! I ordered the ulterra quest 72 inch with the chirp transducer!
It is plenty beefy enough but because of the way it stows, you can’t add forward facing sonar to the shaft. As for an additional pole, it would mount elsewhere on the boat. There may be an aftermarket kit that I am not aware of at this time.
Do you own the Ulterra Quest? I saw a demonstration video on the Ulterra Quest and was surprised how loud the motor that turned the head was. I wouldn't be happy if that was how the Quest series is. My old brushed Ulterra doesn't spin the head nearly as loud. Thanks
I do not own one. I do know on the Ultrex Quest that there’s still noise from the steering mechanism. The brushless head is quiet but still noise from the steering mechanism so I imagine the Ulterra Quest is the same. I will be getting an Ultrex Quest. I can live with the steering noise, the quiet, brushless head is what’s important to me.
I think this will be my motor in 72 inch. I do fish both salt and fresh water so I wish the Riptide came with down imaging. Salt water use will void the warranty of the Ulterra so I won't be able to use it there.
That’s awesome Dave, I was really impressed with the Ulterra Quest at the Toronto Boat Show. Tough call without the down imaging. Saltwater use might trump freshwater depending on how often you fish saltwater. You’re doing your homework and you know best what works out for you.
@@stevechiassonfishing5876 I have written Humminbird to see if a down imaging Riptide is in the future for us guys who fish both salt and fresh. I hate to lose the down imaging. I fish some mighty deep lakes in the mountains. In the salt I mostly troll or drift. I can use my gas kicker motor for that if I have to. Still pondering. I REALLY appreciate your videos.
There is a Riptide Terrova in brushed or brushless. The brushed Riptide Terrova should have MDI. If you go with the Quest, the built in SI has DI and DSC as well. It’s an option.
I have not seen the Riptide motors. I went through the manual for the Riptide Terrova Quest and it talks about mounting an external transducer so the saltwater Riptide may not come with built in transducers. Definitely not trying to add to the confusion. We are learning together.
I always enjoy your videos... great information! I'm hoping to go to the brushless Ulterra soon, but still love my older version.
Thanks Curt, I was definitely impressed with the Ulterra Quest. The Ulterra brushed is still a great motor.

@@stevechiassonfishing5876 will do👍🏼
I have a humminbird 998c will that work with my trolling to follow the contour line? @@stevechiassonfishing5876
How does the built in transducer with SI and DI, compare to the Ultrex Quest transducer?
It will be the same transducer. I have not heard any upgrades at this point.
Another great feature would be if it would auto stow before the voltage gets too low.
With the new Quest Ulterra, is it beefy enough to add additional pole or live scope to the shaft?

What is the 2nd button on top of the control unit next to the pair button?
When you successfully pair the unit, there will be 3 beeps. I believe that it’s a mini speaker button that lets you hear the 3 beeps.

What if you run Lowrance do they still offer the US2 transducer
The new motors only have the dual spectrum chirp as a 2D option.
@@stevechiassonfishing5876 will that hook to a Lowrance with an adapter
The Dual Spectrum chirp does not use a US2 but there is an adapter for Lowrance.
