    Excellent idea Cap-I will have a look at my unit and do the same.its a very different model but the concept must be very similar.
    The other thing you can/should do to extend its life is ALWAYS( we have had this discussion before) cleat off your rode when you are at anchor.It removes the unnecessary stress on the Windlass.

    Have you checked or done a video on the other side? Mine is the exact same model and same age with a lot less time. I serviced everything on the right, but I noticed it binding up after greasing when I tried to do a free fall. My issue turned out to be a nut on the left side had backed off and jammed up. Ruined a thrust bearing and washer. Locked up the whole thing. Not related to what I did…. Definitely worth checking.

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  8 місяців тому

      Well, captain, sorry to hear that, but in my case, I do not use the free fall I don't like the way it runs.

    • @masdbo
      @masdbo 8 місяців тому +1

      @@OutOnTheReef I never used it either, but I tried it one time right before I greased it. When the Gypsy came around and hit the button that pops out to release it to make it free fall, everything stopped. The gypsy was too tight I guess, so that may have been the issue. I don’t think I will try it again. There are several areas on the left side, needle bearings especially that should probably be greased occasionally.

    When I lost my anchor I loosened that gypsy or clutch to get some stuck rope from the wheel... i tightened it back up (not the bolt just the clutch wheel) should that be somewhat loose? Tight? How do you know how to adjust? And one last question, it won’t come off unless you remove that middle bolt right?
    Gracias capitán!

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  3 роки тому +1

      Just off my head I don't remember Captain I have to look at the video back but you can tighten it .
      The problem with our boat is that the anchor Locker is slanted so when the Rope comes in egesa bundo so you have to move that bundle back and again another bundle and you have to push it back like for me when I'm fishing at 200 to 300 ft I have to go to the Anchor locker and rearrange the Rope as is coming in about 3 times.
      And sometimes it gets stuck it's just a bad design on the anchor Locker for being slanted

  • @CaptainRRExcursions
    @CaptainRRExcursions 2 роки тому +1

    hi captain, do you have your windlass on power down on purpose? i noticed that it never free falls when u release the anchor, that little plunger on the gypsy, if its pushed in it locks the gypsy so the spool will never freefall, on the side of the gypsy theres a little button type thing if u pull on that the plunger will pop out, then when u press down on the switch the plunger prevents the gypsy from turning then separates from the spool and allowing the spool to freespool, i have the same windlass
    love your videos make me feel like im there

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  2 роки тому

      Thanks buddy I really appreciate you watching my channel and I don't have it on free fall because I usually don't anchor that deep usually I anchor only and it's only in 10' of water so the free fall mechanism is not needed ,so I always use it that way But thanks for explaining that to me, I knew about it but some people don't know about it👍👍⚓⚓🛥

    Thanks for this video. Im in the process of buying a boat and they are offering this model to me vs the old way of manual drop and pull.
