Alkan Concerto for Solo Piano - 3rd Movement (James Mayhew)

- At long last I have gotten around to publicly performing this piece which I have for so long been listening to and trying to play. Upon first hearing Paul Wee's rendition, from his debut album, I was transfixed and electrified by this insane music - it seemed superhuman to me.
Well, it is clear that there are a good number of slips in this and I was a little disappointed with how messy it was in places. Luckily, the acoustics of the cathedral helped in masking just how messy it was, to an extent. Anyways, I'm content with it, and I plan to perform it again sometime next year to give myself justice in playing it to the level that I know I am capable of.
Recorded 2nd October 2023.

Incredible performance, how does one even begin to tackle such a colossal piece!
Thanks! Not quite sure myself - it was a lot of work I can tell you…
What! Awesome!
Thanks! Yeah I couldn’t have imagined actually performing this upon first discovering it just a few years later
One of the clearest performance of Concerto for solo piano I've heard recently!👏👏
I can't imagine how much effort you have put into this difficult masterpiece
Thank you so much! It certainly was rather a lot of work, I can tell you that...
Stay tuned over the next 6 months or so - I'll likely perform it again and upload that video.

Wow I'm looking forward to watching it soo much!
Btw, do you have a plan to perform other movements of Concerto for solo piano?
@@Pianistic_Jade apologies for the delay - thanks - yeah for sure I do! Can't put a finger on when but I would love to perform the complete concerto hopefully within the next couple of years.
Enjoy the fireworks 🧨 🎊
Enjoy the mistakes lol...
@@jamesmayhew2538 someone is good at everything
nah
it's you
including in literally the 2nd bar
bruh
Jazz, Great Job!
Thanks Daveed! 😂
As a fellow student of this pièce (although I am a much less accomplished student then you), the tempo is too unequal in the first page and a half. Considering how fast you can Play the rest I am pretty sure it is just a matter of practicing these sections with a metronome. Or maybe the nerves getting to you? Because you play the same motifs more equally later on
The seventh page shouldnt be played with pedal (you are the first pianiste I hear that uses it)
(Omg the fkn ppl walking behind you as you okay this incredible music that took si Many hours yo practice!!!!)
Really Solid performance over all
Cant imagine how good it is now after more practice! And AT such a young âge
Thanks for your feedback - yeah I’m aware things were a little uneven - partly because my hands were rather cold from waiting in the cold cathedral until the two people before me in that concert had played! But yes partly lack of the apposite practice…
Thank you! Yes the cathedral was open to visitors but I was so focused on playing I didn’t notice them lol
And yes I like to think that it is a bit better now so hopefully I will perform it again soon
Why on earth they didn't film the keyboard is beyond me
Should we use the microphones?
Oh hold on
