Too much to handle. Too aggressive. Too unruly. Too much for me! A Cane Corso can present a lot of problems. They are not the type of dog you can just leave be and hope all is ok. A special breed like this takes a special leader who can devote themselves to their dog and give their Cane Corso the time and effort they need. To save yourself from this heart break please BE PROACTIVE IN YOUR TRAINING! Get a head start before you even get your dog. Understand what you will be doing so you are not making mistakes on the fly. I get tired of ppl judging others when a dog has to be rehomed. Jason is right in his attitude towards getting a Cane Corso. But others need to realize that LIFE HAPPENS. Life changes, things happen, and this is NOT the same kind of society,by a LONG shot, that existed when this breed was developed. In fact it is nearly 180 degrees from that. But still...please don't blame ppl for trying and failing because divorces happen, ppl get pregnant with all their former responsibilities still required of them while they grow, birth, and raise another human...work full time...and deal with aging parents. Ppl need to realize life happens. There is nothing wrong with rehoming a dog. And there is nothing wrong with euthanizing a dog that you think can't be safely rehomed. At least the dog was loved and had a good life up to that point.

Barb at 72 your still young enough to have one. With the right training this breed perfect for older(active) person they will nap and play when you need it. Always alert at home or about cause you would be their 1st concern. Never say never this breed should be used for people with a disabitly more they are natural care givers minus the drool. My sister is wheelchair bound and we see about 3x times a month and walk with her. My CC gets so excited when we pull on to her street and second she see my sister clamly walks at her side of her wheelchair and never leaves her like they do this daily. Nothing distractes her from her side.

I know full well they are not the same but have some similar traits. Any dog I own becomes part of my pack/ family and they need strong consistent leadership. Thank you for supporting ethical breeding ♡ we as breeder take alot of hate for what we do. What people miss is the time, effort, money and work thst goes into breeding dogs, showing dogs, health testing dogs, temperament testing dogs and making sure out dogs are mentally and physically stable to move foward with breeding.

    • @jasoncorey
      @jasoncorey  2 роки тому +1

And I am sure you get all the time....."Why are your dogs so expensive". Lots of individuals think breeders are making a ton of money when in actuality when done right that is not the case. Now certain big breeders who are basically breeding farms......someone like who's name starts with an X and ends in a Man is just breeding so much making a ton of money I assume......I would be pretty concerned getting from somewhere like that. Seems like far too many dogs to properly care for and do what is needed before they find homes when it comes to socializing, health testing etc.

It breaks my heart. Dogs are like children, when you adopt one, they bond with you, and you become a family. Through thick and thin you stay together, loyal and loving till the end. I lost my dog In January due to age. He was a chihuahua, and my surrogate baby since my kids are in college. Omg, I ate with him, slept with him, watched TV with him. I went to the park, the bank with him, and to the store (Lowe’s). He knew what appropriate behavior was, and his best friend was a neighbor who was a pit bull. Yes, I took the neighbor’s dog to Lowe’s and had families with kids come up to pet both. People were shocked because chihuahuas and pit bulls have a bad rep (it’s all in how they are raised and who raises them). Thanks for sharing! Bruce is beautiful.

Brilliant video. And can i just say, that many years ago i bought myself my first eastern german shepherd, irresponsibly like you described, and he became a stressful handful. I loved him dearly so rehoming him was not an option, but neither was 'backyard dog' no he was beautiful and i wanted him to live a full life 'safely' for him, me and others.
So i eventually sucked it up, my embarrassment and went to find a trainer and did so much research and then more reasearch and developed a plan, training, discipline, rules and still fun. I was sad it took until he was two years old until we became a proper good team, compared to being a terror on the leash and bark at dogs. I eventually had him so well trained off leash too and we went hiking and to beaches, camping, cafes and had lots of fun. And 100% recall. We had the best life and I'm glad i sucked it up, owned up and took charge. Changed myself for him. And he helped to shape my character for better too.
Basically, everyone out there who is struggling, and already have your unruly dog. Don't be embarrassed, just get in there and do the work with your dog. It will pay off and your life together will be amazing. It isn't too late (but sorting it before getting dog is better!)
Turns out german shepherds were the breed for me after all, despite inital stress that caused me fast aging. I had four!! Thanks to my first the rest were much less stressful from the start, i only wish the first two years with my number one was better, but we got there.
But now it's hard to find good bred ones so i own a Dutch shepherd now. I only keep 1 dog at a time only because i know my own limitations.
    Sorry for writing too much.
Good luck everyone! I'll never own a Cane Corso.

This absolutely breaks my heart. To be honest, I couldn't listen myself, too many tears, but I have raised bully breeds all my life. We have taken in a few "aggressive" dogs that have done great once properly trained (most of them weren't actually aggressive, just never socialized). I call shelters once a month to see if any Cane Corsos have been brought in. I know when a dog becomes popular everyone wants one, but very few can handle them. I just anted to add that it can be just as fulfilling and can testify how fulfilling it can be to adopt an older dog. I have just adopted a 4 year old female who was rescued by neighbours of the previous owner who witnessed how terribly he handled the dog. He finally surrendered her after going on holiday and leaving her and the other dog without food and the neighbours after having to feed them by throwing food over the wall contacted the owner and basically asked if he’ not taking care of her, Kept her outside always just locked in the backyard, he luckily surrendered. Adopting an older dog reduces the amount of work dramatically and through consulting with an animal behaviourist “issues” with the dog can be assessed and often fixed with training and love and care.
She was with the foster for only a month and an absolute gem.
She’s been with us for 3 weeks now, we are so bonded but I take her everywhere with me.
There are always no matter what breed older dogs available and from knowing the amount of dogs needing homes I would personally never buy a puppy from a breeder, so many dogs get put down because people give up on them.
This is the second power breed I rescued, and can really say especially if coming from homes here their needs aren’t met, It’s like they love and obey you more because you have saved their life.
She bonded to our family like one can’t believe. She sometimes just comes sits in front of me it’s this stare in her eyes like “Is this really what life can be like….is this a dream”. They are so thankful to get a home that meets their needs after being neglected that in my opinion it’s a lot more rewarding than getting a puppy. And after fostering a pitbul puppy for 8 months and ho much ork that as to get her houetrained and just well enough adjusted that she was desireable to adopt, I don’t think I will ever get a dog as a puppy ever again.
Her nam was Princess….I renamed her Dolce Vita. She is amazing.
Currently getting a big panting tongue and a side-eye as because she’s too hot under the blanket I put over her because my other dog s cold……she’s such a beautiful beast.
Because she ain’t raised as a “pet” she doesn’t play like my previous dogs ho loved fetch, tug of war etc. Any recommendations on what types of play they enjoy so I can try teach her that would be amazing.

I love everything you said Kara! Thank you! We rescued our Cane Corso Napoleon 4 years ago and we had things we had to work through.....we get a lot of the same reactions from people about how great he is. I ALWAYS tell them how much work we put into him. We stress that in every encounter we have when we educate about the breed.

It saddens me that humans do not put the time/effort into researching "the breed & all that is required in raising a dog for the next 15 years", prior to getting one.
Speaking to & visiting breeders, Videos like this, dog seminars & tutorials, should be a must, prior to getting a dog.
You must sacrifice a lot in your day to day life, in order to give these amazing animals the training, socialising & exercise they need...to say the least.
1000% YES! I could not agree with you more. I went through the exact same process with my Amstaff, as you did with yours BW. And the training/growing/learning never ends, esp with your family, friends and the people you come across.
Love😍Love💕Love this video and all the info you share👍 It's so real!
    Hugs to y'all esp BW🤗

I’ve had a few friends get dogs and abandon them within a few weeks. We actually just adopted our friend’s 6mo old goldendoodle fem (who only got one cause he loved our male Goldendoodle so much), he only had her 3 weeks and claimed she was just awful. I was so wary of taking her in but I had a feeling to give her a chance. It breaks my heart to say we are her 4th home, and she is an absolute ANGEL!!! Her wild energy was just a dog with no purpose and too many options “should I chew mom’s shoes or dig up the backyard or dart out the front door??” (She now knows NONE of those things are options). With just the tiniest bit of correction and effort she has blossomed into this confident, calm, obedient dog! She now cuddles my kiddos on the couch and gives them kisses, or plays with her toys and my other dog, or just naps in the sun now. She still has a long way to go, but she just needed boundaries. Everything you said in this video I was like LOUDER FOR THOSE IN THE BACK!!!

I could go on and on about this issue but I try to have compassion. I had five young children when I got my corso 12 years ago. They were definitely not popular on the East Coast back then. He had some issues, for sure. However, he was my shadow and truly the dog love of my life. They need their people and mine definitely chose one person to really love. I could not go the bathroom alone. I took him to the beach everyday rain or shine, snow or sleet. My baby is irreplaceable and I watch this channel to remind myself of my baby. He passed at 7, 5 years ago and my heart is still broken. I love this channel, the information you guys give. It also has a special place in my heart as I found it right after I lost my dog. Thank You.

Thank you for sharing this!!! We don’t have a corso but have 2 Belgian Malinois and almost every time someone asks us what kind of dog they are we’re hesitant to say what their breed is because we don’t want others getting them cuz they look “cool”. The compliments we get on their behavior is appreciated but you can tell people don’t see it as “o I bet that took them a lot of work” they see it as “wow those dogs are so cool I want one”. For the people that ask me about getting one of them I say well I don’t work and they are basically my full time job so unless you have that kind of time to commit I wouldn’t recommend this breed for really anyone.

Jason, this is the best video ya'll have done. Guardian dogs, especially large ones like Cane Corso, take a lot of work to train. It's another level of commitment compared to other breeds. They are used to working and being included in everything. Most (99%) problems I see with those breeds trace directly back to their owners not knowing what they are doing when it comes to raising their animals. That being said your channel is one of the best resources to learn what you need to know to get on the right path to be able to raise a happy, healthy, and well balanced dog. Good job and I'll keep watching as long as you keep posting.

For me this is extremely hard to hear and comprehend. My Cane Corso basically fell in my lap as a 21 year old college student, I did not seek out a dog, he was given to me by a friend and I did everything to make it work. He was about 7 weeks old (now almost 2) and I balanced school, work and training him all at once. I brought him everywhere. It was extremely draining and hard work but if you truly love animals you’ll do anything to make it work. I also knew nothing about the breed or even what having a large dog was like. I grew up with Lhasa opso’s (small dogs). I did my research while raising Atlas and he is the most well behaved and trained dog. After graduation he has gained some new roommates & he is so gentle with two cats and my 83 year old grandmother and the most loving dog I have ever experienced. You have to put the dog first, even as a struggling college student I made sure no matter the price (because yes they are very expensive) that he had the best food, environment, training, socialization and vet that money could buy. I worked even harder to make sure he was given the life that he deserves & that also allowed for him to socialize with other people and dogs while I was at work. So yes, probably not the best idea if you are not completely dedicated 150% to the dog but anyone can do it if you care enough too

I agree with you both about learning everything you can about whatever dog breed a person chooses to get. Before I got me dog I bought a book about the breed and I was so lucky to have met a woman in the park who was the owner of show dog Yorkies and she helped me so much the first year of my boy’s life. The information she shared with me was priceless and I am so grateful to this woman.

Recognizing that dogs, all dogs, see you (their owner) as their everything and are highly stressed, upset, depressed when they are apart from you NEEDS to be considered before ever bringing home a dog/puppy. It's very sad to realize too late that you didn't really know what you were getting into. The one who suffers the most is your dog.
Ok. But here you are in this situation. Hopefully, you do your dog a favor and at least find your dog the best possible chance at a successful forever home. Some breeders expect to be advised if your dog didn't work out. It's their way of being responsible and ensuring one of their pups doesn't end up dumped.
Cane Corsos are such incredible dogs. I would have eagerly and gratefully stepped up to rehome him/her 20 years ago. Now, I admit freely, age has to be considered. I am just not as strong as I was and being bumped off my feet by a gleefully welcoming 100 lb goofy pup will end with a broken hip - not good for either of us. I will restrict myself to my 70 lb 7 yrs old Pit Bull who has finally learned some manners yet still gets excited when I return to the house after walking to my mailbox.
There is a good home out there for every dog if you're willing to take time to find it. Best wishes to that family.

Dog owners need to understand themselves first and their specific style of living as it reflects the same type of training and environment their dog will be exposed to. We had a boxer for over 12 years. Stanley (after Stanley tools) was a great dog and it was a sad time when he had to put him to sleep. This happened about three years ago. We were not going to get another dog. However last December a rescue Cane Corso became available to us. After some research, we brought her home. Primrose is about 3 1/2 years old and is smaller than most I've seen on UA-cam. She has become a welcome addition. She is more than worth the challenges we've dealt with. He's coming up to a year and a half now, and even with all the time I put in, training him has genuinely been one of my greatest challenges. I love videos like this because I do often think - how badly could this have gone if I wasn't the one that ended up with him? We have learned what his needs are, and he's a mush, big time family member! We thank u for sharing, and for pointing us to educational tools, much needed. Our biggest problem is not having enough dog socialization, he's not aggressive to dogs although it seems that way on walks when he sees other dogs, the pulling and sound he makes, if they approach he's just curious an wants to sniff, but not many want him near , cuz of his size . But were working on it!! Thanks again for your channel!!!

Thank you so much for posting this. I volunteer at my local humane society. We get in so many dogs 1-2 years old untrained unsocialized and given up on. Most of which are the bully breeds. People take dogs in and don't compute time into their dog. The Cane Corsos are on another level. Any time someone meets Roman and says they want A Corso like him I tell them no they dont. He is A lot of work we have been going to training since the week we brought him home at 4 months. We train at home up to three times a day. He goes on trips to stores, festivals, parades, craft fairs, farmers markets, building supply stores and to the shelter with me. He has taken more time and effort than any if my other dogs combined because I never want to write an email like that. So thank you so much for being great breed ambassador and not sugar coating what it takes to make A Bruce Wayne

Definitely a new follower now! I have a 7 month mutt. We were told, boxer lab mix, but she is definitely pit lab mix. So as a first time dog owner a pit bull is very intimidating and making sure she's properly trained it's everything! In Ontario they're banned, so if she bites another dog or person she's immediately put down. I've dedicated everything to her to make sure she's properly behaved. Now that we're entering the teenagehood I foresee there being some challenges, she's gonna challenge me for sure. But just like Bruce, she's been at daycare since she was old enough to go (fully vaccinated) so socializing has been amazing for her!
Can't wait to get more tips and implement them into Skye, she's already an amazingly well behaved pup, looking forward to raising her into a perfect adult ❤🐶

Let me compare dogs to motorcycles for a second.
If you've never had one, you don't get the 200hp rocket and you don't get the 900 pound yacht. It's too much for a beginner to handle. Sure some do it and it works out but 90% of the time either they get injured or they end up miserable with it. The ones who stick with it for the long haul got a bike they could manage, they learn the most, and have the most pleasure.
The same goes for dogs. If you're new you don't need the ultra intense malinois or the giant tank corso to figure out what you're doing. Get a relatively lower drive, more naturally social dog. You'll have more fun, learn a bunch, and it will make the transition to more "difficult" breeds a whole lot easier.
Start with what you can handle.

She's 9 months now and the only thing I struggle with is her barking/lunging at other dogs or strangers. Because of her size, people will often give me very dirty looks. They probably think that she wants to attack and are worried I won't be able to hold her back. Its really embarrassing and it makes me really, really discouraged when this happens. She's wonderful at home and around other people, dogs and kids, just not strangers. It's refreshing to hear of how much work it took you to get Bruce where he is.. it is a lot of work to handle a dog of her size but her love and trust is so worth it❤ She really is a gentle giant and thinks she is a lap dog. Anytime I'm practicing yoga on the floor she thinks it's cuddle time.. she really is the sweetest dog I could ever ask for.

Thank you for making a video like this!! It’s heartbreaking, it happens way to often, especially in certain breeds.
I want to add that with a Cane Corso especially they form a bond to their owner and develop a trust with their people and it is very hard on them to go through the changes of rehoming!
And also I think with a breed so large, they can seem like full grown dogs at 7 months but people need to remember that they are still young and learning (AND NEED LOT OF TRAINING AND CONSISTENCY!)

Great video. Very open & honest. It’s so sad to hear that someone wants to renommé their dog but I guess at least they’re recognising they need help. Just a shame for the dog but hopefully he will be found a good home and he’ll get the proper training. This breed of dog is so wonderful but Jason & Kara are 100% right in saying you have to put in the work to properly train your puppy. That is so important 🙏 xxx

I’m a subscriber now. And my wife was just like that..she didn’t want some monster dog. I grew up with a 210 lb Great Dane. No small dogs. I showed her this and she laughed because she remembered thinking our Jessie would be a human killer. She’s amazing, and my wife is pretty cool too.

I adopted a young Rottweiler from a rescue early in the year. She had zero training. She has been a such a challenge. At times I've been so frustrated it would have been easier to give up. I didn't though and she is so worth it and has given so much back. The more time and effort and training you put into a dog the more you get back from them. That's my experience anyway.

very well said. i wish people were more conscious of future struggles and responsibilities with having a cane corso. it would save a lot of heartbreak for the dogs that are given up from their family:(

Thanks for sharing this, great points! Gotta pause the video to comment, as it just struck me: For almost exactly the same reasons, my own parents, back in the day, decided that because the first 3 years are SO formative, they'd arrange their work so that always one of them would be with me... Ok, that was them raising a child, but what you guys, Jason & Kara have done for Bruce, commitment-wise, is similar. And everyone getting any puppy (especially a large guardian breed one), yes, would want to give the first 1 - 2 years their utmost attention. So funny, just had people admire my 17 months' old Estrela's performance today: There was people seated on a terrace, and several horses right there, 10 meters away from the dogs. Who were off leash, the Estrela on an e-collar. Hadn't seen the horses or the people before I stepped around a bend, so I decided to recall them and walk back the other way. The Estrela, meanwhile, had galopped towards the horses with ball-toy in snout. She dropped the toy when I recalled her, then immediately picked it up on cue and brought it to me. Didn't even get distracted by the horses, or the people. So proud - sorry to rant self-pride here on your channel, but it's an example of how REWARDING it is to see one's blood, sweat and tears (literally!) of1,5 years paying off. The beauty of this cannot be described in words. And having a giant guardian breed - which is much, much more tricky to train than a Shepherd type of dog or a Retriever - makes the success so much sweeter...

Thank you so much for your videos & especially this video, specifying exactly what sort of person you need to be to become a Cane Corso parent.
