  • 5 strategies to kick your art anxiety to the curb for beginners and advanced! Anxiety and art is such a common thing, I am learning. When I first started learning to watercolor, I was filled with it. I still have moments where it creeps in and that’s where I have to be aware of the story in my head. Today’s video discusses five ways to get rid of that art anxiety and hopefully encourage you to find more enjoyment instead.

2:21 I love how mentions to "allow yourself to create something ugly". That is so true. Mindfulness meditation helped me a lot to let go of the high expectations I had for my self and my creative expression. I was doing exercises in the book "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels and was able to calm my mind enough to let go of the expectations and demands I put on my self. Eventually I was able to create unapologetically again. Thanks :)

Oh I'm so glad you resonated with that! Yes, that mindset (create something ugly) helps me let go...not that I necessarily think things are ugly at the end but yes, sometimes and that's okay! Very cool about your mindfulness journey. I've used the headspace app for several years now before bedtime and I've noticed how well I can now focus on it, versus when I first started and my mind drifted constantly. Happy painting!

Tammy you are such a guiding light in my water color journey. I picked up water colors around 2 months ago and I love all your videos. I love your approach of taking the pressure off, using what you have and breaking the rules. Thank you so much and I loved your live with Kristy! Rewatching now

Oh thank you so much! I am so happy that you’re having fun on my channel. Yes let’s not be stressed and get into all the stupid rules because we just get bogged down. We have to keep it light hearted and happy or else it’s no fun! Welcome.

To expand on tip #1, sometimes it takes time and more experience\practice\exposure to others that have more experience that we do to understand why something isn't\didn't work for us. And that is okay too. Just keep going, at some point you will be able to look back and understand why something just didn't work for you.
One of my favorite things that I made is a picture that I drew, one of those I don't care what it looks like just do it, using Crayola markers. It is of different flowers. It is not "prefect" (it wasn't suppose to be) and every time I look at it it makes me feel so happy. It lifts my spirits.

Yes Jessica, I appreciate your expansion of the advice. Thank you for sharing that! It is such a process, and journey and within that we develop our skills but also that sense of self-confidence in our work. I’m glad that you have a favorite picture that makes you happy!

Would you be able to do a video on pros and cons of using pencil to outline, how to cover them up and how to use ink to outline?
Would ink be best before or after the paint?
Also, pros and cons of a charcoal pencil.
Im new to watercolors but have painted with acrylics for a few years.
New subscriber and enjoying your videos.
    Thank you.😊

I really love your suggestion, thank you! I will put that on the list. That’s actually an excellent idea. I like making videos that have several things you are comparing together. And personally, I love using ink before and after. Depending on how I’m feeling.

Truly struggle This is real. Thank you Tammy blessing to run into this video and your art. Do you have acrylic art or can I follow using my acrylic paints

    • @Tammykaye
      @Tammykaye  11 місяців тому

Thank you for admitting the struggle! It’s in many of us. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t overcome it. I don’t do acrylic but absolutely, follow along with your acrylic paints! Acrylic is forgiving and you will find that if you make a mistake you don’t like, you can just easily cover over with acrylic!
      Why is this

Could you please do a video onto some of the reference books you use for botanical work? Books are very expensive particular in Australia and it would be nice to get some good recommendations. If you already have a video could you link it for me?

That's a great idea! I'll put that on the list. I'd love to and want to compile a few more in the video as well. For now, here is the link to the 3 I use ALL THE TIME and they are beautiful! I found them through other UA-camrs :) Reference books:
