- This week's film is "Johnny's Greek and Three" by filmmaker Ava Lowrey, featuring Johnny’s Restaurant in Homewood, Alabama. This neighborhood staple serves Southern-style meat-and-three lunches with a hefty dose of Greek influence. The hybrid menu is the brainchild of Timothy Hontzas, a hometown boy who has been obsessed with kitchens for over 20 years.

I've gotten 3 seconds in an already smashed the like button because Southern Food Alliance videos are SO GOOD.
Wished it actually showcased the food. #showmethefood
Chris Tine W all this guy did was just talk damn
"I don't care what you do in life but you better do it 100%" Great advice from his dad...passion is very important
Eater you guys are the best!! I watch and love all your shows. They are just amazing!
I would watch a whole documentary about this guy!
These videos are so good, it feels like I'm in a trance watching them
I like how they showed barely any of the food.
This is fucking ossum. The way the chef talks deeply about his passion for food and other things got me in a trance
Videos like these really make me wish I could just instantly teleport anywhere I want to sample food from one corner of the country to another. That, or save up a ton of money to travel. Hmmm...
I love this style of video, Eater. Good stuff.
I really enjoyed this
This video and the video on traditional Meat and 3s are both great stories
Chefs are another breed :D
Another great vid!!!
great video... got in a 7 minute and 45 second nap at work. Thanks!
Such diverse clientele!
Cool. Timothy's story was interesting to watch. Was hoping to see more of the menu that sets his meat-and-three apart from others.
He really got the capacity to feed the Soul.
ppl would have starved if it wasn't for the Greek in b'ham?.hilarious!!!!
Grew up eating there. Many of them here
Johnny's is great, but can be very busy. Nice to put a story with a place. Eat Local
Well this was surprising to see a place featured where I live.
Im hungry now lol
Do you guys ever see a comment, and ask yourself, why couldn't I think of that?
no i have better things to do
That Fella was thinking the same thing
+Martin Rojo lmfao😂😂😂
Martin Rojo Your important thing to do is to reply back to an unimportant comment? Wow... life choices.
That Fella oh yeah replying to the comment took hours out of my day you're right what a waste of time
0:26 has an almost Tarantino like quality to it
Is this guy from the Southern City States of Greece?
μπράβο ρε φίλε άξιος
wow
Aunt Boula approves. Oopah!
did i miss when they showed the food ?
What is meat and three? I'm from Canada and have never heard of it
905core It means a meat and three vegetables of your choice. A traditional serving style all over the South. Done correctly, you can get an awesome bunch of flavor combinations.
Hotel?
Trivago
All these comments about this guy not being Greek and everything being white washed....come on folks? I would wager that his food is amazing. I'd travel to Alabama only to go to this restaurant. It's obvious he was put on this earth for his restaurant. I love the part about looking out in the dining room to see the Guest who got the Pork Dish. This is very inspirational
Birmingham Alabama and Mobile Alabama has a huge Greek community for over 100 years
Opaaaaa!
So, no hosts for the episodes in South! I've seen videos from Asia, Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, West cost, Northern US. No one available????
This video series is made by our partners at The Southern Food Alliance, the majority of their videos are subject focused and un-hosted. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for responding. Love your videos. Cheersfrom South Carolina
ΕΛΛΑΔΑΑΑΑ
He cooks using the Carbonaro effect.
Kevin Mungus What the hell does a tv show got to do with the things he uses to cook with?
Salmon Fish He looks like Michael Carbonaro
Kevin Mungus ......
Yes?
Let me see the food
@2:02 chef with cigarette in hand...
Weird to barely see the food
This guys mouth/teeth look and sound justs like Nick Saban
I came for the food...there's no food😒😒😒
Geeez.... what is the average age in that dining room... I'm not interested in food loved by really old people... theyll eat mush... lol your grannys cooking amazing... but she's also down for Applebee's... so you gotta be careful lol
I have this on 1.5x speed and he STILL seems to talk SLOW.... lol....
Not enough talk about the food. Big fail. He'll learn.
That guy does not seem very Greek and has boring recipes
What do you mean he doesn't look Greek? You know, we have blondes in Greece, too. I have a lot of relatives that are blonde in my family including my grandma, brother, cousins and some uncles. We're not in Africa or Middle East, we're in Europe.
panoC97 uneducated americans leave them be 😂
Sure. No wonder there is a line of at least an hour to get to a seat. Hallmark of a bad restaurant 😏. Comments like this make people question your intelligence
He doesn't list his recipes, so how do you know they are boring? Are you a mind reader? Maybe watch the video and understand he's the grandson of a greek immigrant and makes traditional greek and southern food
panoC97 Hell me and my mom are blonde, my aunts a ginger, but we’re Greek. No one believes us but whatever.
wow
