Believe it or Not these IBM Systems are still in Use and your Videos really helped me. I appreciate your thorough Step By Step Approach It Gives me a lot of Confidence to work on these systems Thank you for explaining this with so much Patience.
Thanks Morten. Even in 2024 this video of yours helps. For KB: I had a 2x SAS HDD already in RAID1, then I added 4x SATA SSDs --> system won't boot (hang at "Firmware X Server" splash screen), if 2 SSD removed, system booted. But, after watching your video, I removed the SSDs (Samsung 870 EVO 2TB) then I landed in the MegaRAID sw where I then inserted "live" the SSDs one at a time (insert drive, scan drives)x4. Created RAID5 (I wish my system had RAID10!!) and ... boom, it works :)
Thanks for this video. I have 1 IBM sas drive and i will put it into one of my HP server soon, it can be an video for my channel, to see if it works ok or it will get the cooling fan go crazy. I will upgrade the server with more ram and new CPUs and one AJA Kona LHE+ , it will be my christmas present :-)
The reason you can't select any encryption is because you need to select "Automatic" and not "Manual" configuration, when you selected the Manual Config, you removed the ability to encrypt the drives. Go back to the video at around 11:57 and look at the screen.
You know if you really want to invest in any storage. Seagate now makes 5TB 2.5" 15mm server hight SATA drives. I am about to install 8 of them in my IBM x3550 M3. :)
Hey Morten. Did you bought those drives new or refurbished? I need a 6TB drives but new drives are just waaayyy to expensive for my wallet. good idea to buy a refurbished one or just wait the money? :/ I also wonder some manufacturers won't let "uncertified" drives works just because they want money or what :/
My PlayHouse yeah.. there's refurbished 6TB SAS drive for 125 bucks before tax. it costs me around 250 bucks after import tax. half of brand new price. but then, i doubt if i could trust those 1st gen 2 years old helium drive or nah :/
Not me, I'm a regular subculture who has been following it for a long time.the only one who's worth watching and knows with the data center to do it Morten .
Hi Scott Downey Thank You very much! but that was really a F* stupid mistake,, if I was doing this on important server/data I would have caught it. But I was just playing here.. Thank you for watching! :-)
Hi Andrew Joy Well I did not exactly do a simple task,, I imported a foreign RAID1 in to a raid controller that has never seen it before, created a new RAID 5. F* up my RAID1 by removing a disk, then told the raid controller that that disk was okay and imported it back into the array. Thank you for watching! :-)
Hi Morten, do you know how to create 2nd vol after creating first volume, total space on raid is 2TB, and first vol. is 200 GB, need to create 2nd vol for rest of the space on raid?
Hi Jas Sharma It is possible to make more volumes on the same raid array. And I am sure I have made videos with doing that. But if you make more than one volume , you will not be able to expand your array with like an extra disk later,,, without redoing it all. If you do the volumes in the OS,, instead you can. Thank you for watching! :-)

You're very welcome!
I know they are still in use,, they are still good servers.
Thanks Morten. Even in 2024 this video of yours helps.

Thank You very much! let me know if you do an english video on that AJA Kona LHE+ thingy :-)
Thank you for watching! :-)
I will try to do video in eglish for sure starting by the next year :-)
7:12 if i hit enter, i am in a menu for my raid controller. i cant even access in post.
I would make sure it is on latest firmware,, but that would only be because I have no better idea.
@@MyPlayHouse I got it fixed. I checked every wire and connection. Rebootet and I got every device shown. Sometimes it is simple.

Hi Mark Giblin
Thank You very much! I did not know that,, do not usually encrypt the drives.
Thank you for watching! :-)
I know you comment was from a long time ago but stuff like you comment is appreciated and valuable ! Big thanks for sharing!

What if you don't have an option for RAID5 only RAID1 and RAID0, System x3650 m4 ? Can I force RAID5?
It is possible to expand the raid controller to do R5 or R6,, but it costs :-/
I have no HP branded HDD on my HP DL380 G6 server, and no fan issue with that.
Same here, I'm using some Laptop HDD's without any problems or fan issues...
Same for me, i use everything without any problems

Pulling out a drive when you shouldn't is something I would do and then still forget to label it.
Hi Scott Downey

That is quite a complex raid controller. not as easy as , zpool create POOL raidz drive1 drive2 drive3 drive4 and your done :)
