For 600 usd the Bowen's mount adapter deserved to be included in the original kit
6 Bills thank goodness i read this comment before wasting time watching the whole video
@@Kori_INJNit's a good price, or maybe fair
Really wished they did that yea...
i just read this comment, i was about to buy it
@@HumzaYousafFilms it's a $10 add-on
An excellent presentation of just a few uses of this fantastic light, thanks for all the effort you put into this review. 5 Stars
Glad it was helpful! Appreciate your comment 🙏
9:37 when you enter your teen son’s RGB room late at night and find he’s streaming on twitch 😂
The globe does not soften the shadows. It diffuses the light. Those are two different qualities. Softness is defined by relative size of light to subject. Diffusion is the spreading of light particles which can reduce hotspots.
Thank you! It drives me a bit spare every time I hear someone say that the diffusor they put on is creating soft light (this, for diffusors that are not much larger than the original emitter). Even quite experienced people say this. Now, a diffusor may bounce the light off a wall/ceiling, and _that_ softens the light, so perhaps that's why people are making this mistake.
With the bowens mount and an light dome softbox, could I use this as a key light? At a close distance.
Or maybe the light dome is too heavy?
DO IT ALL? but can't be powered by a V Mount battery straight out of the box, Got It!
Truly insane price.
im not sure if that price make sense when Zhiyun literally have created a new market of small lights more powerful with a standard bowens mount
No doubt Zhiyun is doing cool stuff with their lights! But not comparible to the quality of light and build you are getting here.
Also don't let the "80" fool you. It gives 19850 lux at 1m at 5600K. The Molus 300 for example does 15500 lux in normal or 20300 lux in high power.
Just bought one. I plan on buying 3 more. I also want the 1000c but I ythink it might make more sense to rent. I want to turn rooms into pure color my guy!
Haha that setup will most def do the trick ✌️😁
With the bowens mount and an light dome softbox, could I use this as a close distance key light?
Or is the light dome too heavy?
Thank you for the review. I am looking to automate turning on/off the lamp using an smart plug. So my question if you know is:
If the light is on, and I unplug it from electricity and plug it back in will turn back on automatically or I need to reach and turn it on from the switch?
It can be set to Studio mode which means the light will automatically turn on when it is plugged into a power outlet. So yes this will work with this light.
How much $ is the bowens mount adapter?
1:54 That's the Beerball! If you went to college in the 80's you could get a beerball, which was probably a gallon, or two of beer! Good enough for a bunch of friends, and less than a keg, which is like a marriage. Obviously, thisis much, much smaller than a beerball, but same concept. Yes, photo students are party animals!
The lack of built-in Bowens mount is very dissapointing for me. I was excited but now I'm no longer interested.
really helpful video, thanks Stan! Do you know pricing of the 80c? Also do you have links to the cine foil? Thank you!!
just saw the ending with pricing, geeze 649 is steep for this little thing!
Thanks Tim, glad you liked the video! Here are some links for Cinefoil: (USA) amzn.to/3Xsh18S - (EU) amzn.to/3XqCJdn
It's at the higher end but compared to lets say the Nanlite Forza 60C ($699) it's way more feature rich and "pro level" in my opinion.
That Forza just comes with a bit more acessories included in the kit though.
I just don't think there's anything out there right now that compares to the quality of this thing!
688 Euro for this lamp is crazy.
@@aybee5908 it's 559 euro
We need a more powerful Amaran version for 239,-. 20% off on Black Friday.
@@dirkpehrke9909 amaran 150c
(costs a bit more than that though..)
@@SightseeingStan Plus vat making it almost 700 euros
How is this small and powerful when we have zhiyun g200 or 300?
Sure Zhiyun is doing cool stuff with their lights! But not comparible to the quality of light and build you are getting with this one.
Also don't let the "80" fool you. It's 19850 lux at 1m at 5600K. The Molus 300 for example does 15500 lux in normal or 20300 lux in high power. So it's similar in power.
@@SightseeingStan You are comparing the Storm 80C with a reflector with the Molus 300 bare bulb. The storm 80c offers, according to aputures website at 6,500K and 1m 6,554 lux 609 fc.
Is that an honest mistake or are you trying to sell the light?
I will still get the 80c, but not for its Power.
@@MajdalAlyouss both these numbers are the lights with reflector as I found it on their websites. I have nothing to gain with any of these lights.
Quoted from Zhiyun website "The illuminance value is obtained by testing at 100% brightness with the ZHIYUN standard reflector at a distance of 1m."
Can you make a review about Smallrig RC 100B? It's an updated version of Smallrig RC 60B
I've heard about that one. Will try to review it when I get my hands on it 👍
Can it be powered by a V-mount battery? Or do you need a special adapter cable for this?
There is a D-Tap cable available for this and also an handheld adapter with v-mount
@@mitchgross592 Thanks for the answer. Does it also support charging via USB-C or is it just for firmware updates?
@@epuri Well, not “charging” per se as there’s no internal battery in the STORM 80c, however YES you can power the light via the USB-C port. Note that this requires a 100w power bank (20amps at 5v), so you need a decently powerful USB battery. And also yes, the USB-C is also how you can load firmware updates.
Does this fixture work well with Amaran Spotlight SE 36° Lens Kit?
@@Roseartvideo That one has a Bowens mount so you will need the Bowens adapter for the 80C as it has a mini Bowens mount.
What is the lux rating at 1m? Perhaps I missed this in the commentary...
@@mickeypower 19850 lux at 1m at 5600K
you havent tried the colbor, super high quality build
This is not about the build, but the BLAIR LED chip
It's not just build quality but also light quality
Too expensive for me. By the time this thing is available in Australia it'll be near $1k!
Most of these premium lights would cost almost double of their price in Australia
I see a few comments comparing this light with cheaper fixtures from Zhiyun and amaran. These are not good comparisons. The 80c isn’t designed to be used as a key light for talking head UA-cam videos.
I use a Forza 60c, which is the direct competition to this light, and that thing lives in either a fresnel or spotlight attachment. I don’t think I’ve used the included bowens adapter even once. If you want to throw an edge light on your talent from 20 feet away, you’re going to have a hard time doing that with a molus G300 or a 300c with the reflector.
Good point! ☝️
Does ist work with a vmount mounted on the lamp using a dtap power cable?
@@HFH-8765 I have not been able to test this, but I am guessing it works yes
Yes
yeah i can't support these types of prices for those features. Especially since they got sneaky with their "bowens" mount being completely proprietary.
does this light still exist? Cant find it anywhere
Yes, it has just been released today!
their webpage for it is broke as well.... I was hoping it might be the update to the 60 - my favourite little light with the built in fresnel and battery compatibility
@matthewglloyd it works on my end... aputure.com/products/storm-80c?Title=Default+Title
wowww that's amazing news
@@Awesomepossumentmt Yep such a cool versatile little light!!
your link doesnt work
It seems these lights are currently not yet available through Amazon
black friday is calling me
You had me in the 1st half 🫠. I was getting so excited to purchase my 1st constant light. I guessed the price throughout the video saying okay this is gonna be about $200 , then the features kept coming & i went ok $350... but to my surprise ...😬
@@Kayotified Sure there are cheaper options out there, like $350. But there are just not in the ballpark of this light. Even looking at let's say the Nanlite Forza 60c, which is $699, it's not as feature rich or pro level as this one. So then this price isn't too wild...
@@SightseeingStan Nanlite has new Forza 60cr RGBLAC which appears to be just as feature rich or pro level as this one. Most of my cob lights are Nanlite and I own the Forza 60c bi-color. I want to either upgrade to or add a RGBLAC version. The main selling point for me choosing this light over the Nanlite would be the IP rating. I would plan to use it outdoors and the rain protection and dust proofing are major factors to me. Thank you for your review.
Man i was watching this review and was aware that apurture made some expensive stuff, but $600?? Thats kinda crazy imo
I'm clearly not the target audience for this since I'd rather get 2 Zhiyun X60 for half the price of one 80C. But this looks great for more professional sets.
I bet you see an amaran version come out soon when they realize no one in their right mind would opt for this over cheaper options that are close to par
@@davido9450 I would love to see an Amaran version. I just bought the 60X S as a hand held battery powered light for a shoot but now thinking of returning this for the 80C. Any thoughts on that? I'd need the Bowens adaptor since I use it with a small soft box and Aperture's fresnel.
It's about build quality, durability and consistency of light. Folks who work in harsh environments or with crews where day-call techs can trash gear hauling it in and out of the truck need those features. That IPX rating alone is a huge selling point. For one-man-band shooters this is probably overkill but still, there is a lot to be said for being able to trust that your investment is still providing returns years down the road.
You definitely will not see an Amaran version of this, probably ever. This chip will stay Aputure only. And the price is good, coming from a Nanlite 60c owner... This is cheaper, more output, fuller spectrum, better control with new modes and crmx, plus its ip rated, which the Forza 60c is none of the above, but it was more expensive when it came out@@davido9450
@@NeilEvery Sure that makes perfect sense, especially being weatherproof. I'm a small production company and don't rent my gear out, so the lighter duty of the Amaran series is fine for me. The other issue is that the 80C seems to have a lot more light output at the COB but with the narrow reflector it has less output than the 60Xs. With no modifier it's 288 lux for the 60XS vs 704 lux for the 80C (3 M - 5600K) with the reflector - 1877 lux for the 80C vs. 3510 for the 60XS. maybe @mitchgross592 www.youtube.com/@mitchgross592 can clarify.
great video dude but pls stop saying "which we look on in a second" ten times in a row - it makes your first 3 minutes seem like a trailer :) just an honest feedback
Haha just wanted to make sure you all knew what was coming! 😉😬
had me until the price....these compnaies really know how to blow a sale these days 🤣
it's a good deal for what it is, as a Forza 60c owner.
It's not a bad price for what you are getting. There is currently nothing on the market producing this quality of light. But hey it comes down to what you need!
Compared to something like the Forza 60C which is 699,-
@@CinegavoExactly, as another 60c owner. Folks aren’t getting that this is a spotlight.
meh... ulanzi 120w is also small and powerfull and you just attach v-mount on it and that's all
It being small and powerful are not the selling points of this light. The quality of light your getting and the color accuracy is unseen so far.
But hey, it's all about what you need and want. Not saying this light is for everyone! ✌️
Pff proprietary mount is a total dealbreaker. Not buying a whole new set of modifiers for just one light.
You could also just get the bowens adapter. But I get what you're saying.
You're a bit early, mate 😅
Oops!
Too advanced is the way to go 💪
What a great little light!
Bro screw that freaking light on!
Why you cut your beard bro? 😮
Can we get this kind of LED light reviews to stop saying "its only on 2% so its really powerful" without saying anything about a lumens/candela or exposure information means nothing and is just covert plugs. Its also unprofessional and only tells how uninformed the "reviewer" is.
Exactly. Every reviewer does this lol it’s like yeah it’s two feet away from you of course it’s going to be at 2 %.
they can't afford a spectrometer dude..
id check the site if i was you. Dude was wrong about like 5 things
Storm your pockets....
it's a good deal for what it is, as a Forza 60c owner.
Where is your beard?
I gave it to a bald man
why not something like a ameran 300c for the same price ?
I'd say this is a much more evolved light in comparison. But hey it really comes down to what you need!
I have the 300c and a Forza 60c (which is what the 80c is directly competing against). These lights have completely different use cases. My 300c lives in a softbox, and the 60c in a fresnel or spotlight attachment, being used as a spotlight or edge light. I’ve never used the bowens adapter on the 60c even once.
@@Chase-Video I was looking forward to using the 300c as a flood light or in a soft box as the main light in the scene the smaller light should be good for smaller subjects or as a spot for sure
@@TECH3_ 300c makes a great main or key light for sure. The green/magenta shift is super useful for matching overhead lights too.
@@Chase-Video ah makes sense , I currently use crappy RGB bulbs and tubes in my house to shoot stuff that gets the job done but I am looking forward to up my game and buy my first light , I am thinking the 300c and the a pair of ace 25c for ambient lighting
$649.???? 😂😂😂
