DX5 performing New Order "True Faith" cover

- New cover (after near five months). Sound design, backingtrack recording from scratch, etc made in an afternoon. (A DX5 was used on the original song, though there is no DX5 in my cover: it's just my nick).
Gear used:
Yamaha DX7 - Bass
Roland JX8P- Filtered Sawtooth pad
Emu Emax 1 - Chords (8P samples)
Emu Emax II - "Hook guitar" (Kurzweil PC1x post processed sound and the Emu Chorus heavily on :-).
Original song composed by Gillian Gilbert, Stephen Hague, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris, Bernard Sumner.
Performed here live by DX5 Jose Maria Bara.
Can confirm the original used a DX5 as the band's actual one is here with me :) You've done a much better job than I did recreating this track though. Actually I'm probably going to re-do the video I made of this song at some point as I was never very happy with it. I might well borrow (apologies!) the idea of doing the additional lead synth parts in the 2nd half of verses and the chorus that you play here as it works much better with them :)
People: this man owns one of New Order's original Yamaha DX5 & QX1 sequencer!!. ua-cam.com/video/LUZYhG9Lm1M/v-deo.html .
I remember to watch that video and feel envy of those piece of historic gear. I added those extra pads to fill a bit (there is some fill on that part too). My cover is not an 1to1, skipped some break synth arpeggios, etc. it was done on the fly. Best regards!, DX5
@@DX5 Thanks for linking to it! Yours is way better than mine, but I don't think anyone expects these things to be perfect in every aspect :) It's a shame you couldn't have had the NO DX5 / QX1 in your video and then it would've been the best of both worlds (the N.O. synth but with your playing.) But I would never risk having it shipped anywhere so it would've been very difficult to arrange. But if you're ever in the UK then you're welcome to play it! :)
haha thanks@@sighkid.
You're damn good buddy. Keep up the great work.
Another great cover. DX5 will you do a live evening again?
Another great cover, José. Thank you! I look forward to your videos and livestreams.
Great classic and great performance 🙌🎹
Thank you RetroSound :) ) )
Absolutely brilliant cover, True Faith is one of my favourite songs of all time and you certainly have done it justice!
This is one of those richly produced songs that needs a very careful hand when recreating. As usual you've nailed it Jose, perfect balance and levels, deftly chosen tones, can't wait to hear this on the streams. Legend mate! 👍
Looking forward to hearing this on the livestreams. Well done DX5!
you should do lady of ice by fancy next DX5
That's a good idea
Oh how much I had to wait for this cover... Thanks Sir
Vielen Dank, Sarah. Keep playing synths!
Congratulations! Very professional!
Thanks Juan
Awesome.😍
Manchester tune. Thanks mate-all the best from Manchester 🙂
brilliant cover and sounds really good.
Excellent "True Faith" ☺️
Very nice! I listened to it without watching the video and when I watched the video I was surprised that you don't play the chords on the Jx8P but on the Emax. Reading the description answered it 😁
Yep. I used the 8P for the saw pad, then had to sample that glassy lead sound into the Emax. Thanks :)
this song has a powerful reminds friends that arent more this onearth space...
Play Age of Consent next!
Hey Jose thanks so much for covering it!!!!
🙂
Oh yeah ❤
we have a couple of emulator IIs in our studio. I use them all the time. Do you like the III better?
I think the II give more character to the sound. The III sounds clearer.
Another awesome cover!! 👍🏼
Brilliant!!
This guy would be awesome at parties
One of favorite songs…
Excelente sonido, José! Gracias por compartir y saludos desde Texas
Saludos desde España
You should make a cover of "Policy of truth" by Depeche mode that's a great tune and i belive you can nail it.
While I haven't nailed it, I already did it years ago :) ua-cam.com/video/DHn05YPRK1Y/v-deo.html
@@DX5 it sound close to original except saxophone part i guess? How about you make OMD - Souvenir cover?
Bravo José ! Beautiful cover of that New Order masterpiece.
Nice work - kudos
Nice Nice 🖤👍
Hell yeah man! Doing it on the real deal too!

Brilliant
This was a short one, didn't get to hop on the live stream=) Great stuff, friend!
Ese bajo inconfundible de Peter. saludos jose
Un abrazo Jose
Temazo!!
I’m still always so stunned how accurately you’re able to recreate the songs. Notes, chords, everything. Amazing stuff as usual
I love the extra little synth right before the chorus that you put in there wow I’m so loving this! Thank you!!!!
Do you know what synth originally did the bassline in this song? Cheers
Yamaha DX5 (see pinned comment from the owner of that very same synth), though it is a DX7 standard factory sound too.
@DX5 oops I didn't see the comment pinned really cool he owns the exact one they used
@@cgienthusiast Yes. A piece of music history.
Drum machine?
No drum machine. I sequenced drums on software. Samples mostly from one of my Emax II libraries.
Yes, thank you so much!
New orders most complex bass sequence
I recorded it on a midi track to be later played back on the DX7 and I did it playing in realtime (well I had to quantize after it obviously :=) )
@@DX5 new order songs usually have a simple sequence with one pattern.
True faith has 4 ? Stephen haugue must of helped write
Your best work yet, utterly nailed it.
Thanks. I was reasonably happy with the result too :)
@@DX5 "reasonably" you damn try hard lmao. That sound design was matched the best I've seen you do for new order. That might also just be because blue Monday is so damn tricky to sound match.
Hi
