TT seemed like a good idea for the smaller UK rooms in the sixties, when I was given my first train set one Christmas. Not sure how this differs scale-wise, but the horrible brown track with built-in sleepers and ballast has been replaced. Whether you choose Hornby or Peco is up to you, but either will be loads better to look at on a model railway.
I've not had a train set since I was a kid, far too long ago than I care to think about. Thinking of getting into it again with this scale but wondered if there is a big difference between TT and 00 in detail level levels? I like my detail....
Hi there. The new TT:120 models are very highly detailed and also look very true scale in ever way. Horny Model Railways have done a brilliant job on the tooling for the locos and rolling stock, so you won't be disappointed. Naturally the larger the models, the greater the detail (so OO will always have more) however TT:120 is highly detailed for the size that it is. 😊
im nearly finished the baseboards for Acton Wells in TT120 using 4 and 6 radius curves and straights. only thing is need hundreds of straights for 12 road fiddle yards. Have got a blue 08 which works with hornby analogue but with h and m controllers making the loco squeal. Pity cant get a driver in them. However have tested Flying Scotsman and mallard on 4 pullmans last week and run very smoothly . Lighting good too. No sound decoder for 08 yet as 6 pin what is best to use please. thanks
Thanks for your comments and great to here you are building a TT:120 layout. We are working on an installation guide for sound with the new Class 08 for release later this year.
The "Geometry Problem" turned out to be a stress issue. Once the curves are de-stressed they not only lay flat, but also have reasonably perfect geometry.
@@WhatAboutTheBee exactly a problem ,, pecos will without doubt be perfect straight out of the packaging , considering hornby specialize (allegedly ) in model railways you think they would be able to deliver a simple track section perfect from the box
Want too invest in TT but i see no mention of the smaller tank engines or era 2 locos. An 08 to move small freight and rolling stock around seems out of sink with the era 3 engines being served up. I dunno i think Hornby have something special potentially but there have been some red flags for me. Hopefully just teething problem because its new. May get into 00 gauge because of the availability of smaller engines, a shame, and yes i do not own a train set yet and am new to the hobby and cramped for space. Would really love to see smaller engines, could do a lot in a small space, which is the idea. I love the smaller type of steam engines used in south Wales and the valleys in the past.
The rolling stock looks good, but I have to say that I prefer 3mm, 120 looks too close to N and those European couplings are awful (can they be used for shunting?). Also the track looks too much like Hornby circa 1976, such a wasted opportunity (I suppose that Peco's may be better 🤔). I was really excited about TT, but now it all feels a bit rushed, a bit curates egg to my mind. I was hoping for good reviews on the 08, perhaps a small shunting test track etc? But sadly the couplings and slow speed running Ive seen to date doesn't inspire confidence 😕😕😥
Actually I find the couplings are great! Better than those awful things on the n gauge stock. You think it’s rushed and the other comment😊 so far thinks it’s too slow 😂
@@LNER985 If you clip the track together carefully, fixing it down as you go then a circle has about 370 degrees. It need to be worked on to get it to work properly.
I think this format all only be a success if Hornby can get a lot of products to market to run on the TT rails very quickly.
and not just 4 models with 30 diferent re paints and re numbers
@@shakeyhandsshedmodelrailwa2494 There are more than four models in the range.
In consideration of how quickly the models are selling out, I think Hornby will be just fine

Have they sorted the track geometry problem yet?
It doesn't look like it from the video. If you look closely you can see the track not sitting flat around the bends.
It feels that this video had filmed several months ago. But I' not sure if things have changed much since.

Another price rise! Hornby, you are killing TT120 off.

hornbys track is their usual pants ,, got for running tillyou use peco to build a layout then throw away ,, pecos is much better and measures better

I've has no issues with the running of my 08. They need to be run in properly and the track / wheels need to be kept clean
