Just wanted to jump on here quick before all the keyboard warriors get fired up. I’m fully aware that the understanding of compressing bat insulation lowers the r-value. However it’s is my opinion that the closed cell spray foam combined with the slight compressing of the bat insulation will give me a much better thermal advantage in the end.

I would've ripped out bat insulation and gone with straight foam.
It's expensive but well worth the money.
Rebuilt our water treatment and pressure tank building outside our modular home. We moved in late fall after numerous freeze ups and countless dollars to electric company.
For heaters and pipe heating tape.
The new one requires no heat, well water is sufficient. Unless it goes subzero for an extended time.
Then a 100 watt light bulb is sufficient.
It's been in use for 15 years with no issues unless kids leave door open in the middle of winter. 😄.

If it was me, I would save myself some money by putting r-13 in the floor on top of the closed cell. It would fit perfectly with no compression. And you would probably end up with the same overall r value. Just a thought:)

they told us in continuing ed class compressing fiberglass doesnt lose R factor as much as you think

@@jacktomberlin7976 your talking a rodent and insect infestation invitation.
Campers/RVS are notoriously famous for attracting rodents and insects.
They lay dormant for long periods in which critters or insects find with a little effort a new home.
      Two problems with this.
They not only destroy your camper, but you import them to places you visit. Which has adverse affects.
Cheaper isn't always the right way.

      @@ebejeff maybe so.
But did they talk about adhesion, voids that allow condensation, rodent or insect habitat?
When I started Fermaldihyde foam was great.
      Go figure.

The Jeffersons lived in a DELUXE apartment. In the sky.

I know you want to seal it up tight, but please don't leave it so tight that there's no air exchange, or at least put in some type of active air exchange. You'll be needing to breathe.

Just a suggestion from someone who lived in Alaska and Michigan, if your gona have a generator wire in a switch for a block heater on that truck, even a magnet heater stuck to the oil pan works wonders on a below zero morning, it will deff help on those really bitter cold mornings!

I just uses the tiger foam and kraken for my shipping container deer cabin and both are great but prefer the kraken. Can’t wait to see how it goes.

I turned a full sized school bus into a camper for hunting trips and it was a fun project ! . Complete with kitchen , shower and 7 bunks ........... the bunks were the problem .... too much snoring so I sold it !!! 🤣

Stu... you're sacrificing a LOT of interior square footage (floor, walls, ceiling) in order to make space for 4 inch bat insulation. Hope the juice is worth the squeeze.

The DIY van guys obsess over trapped moisture. Is that going to be an issue? Nothing lasts forever, of course, so even if things rot out in 10 or 15 years, that’s okay. Anyway, I love the progress videos, so keep them coming! And good luck with the build and the adventures once it’s done!

You planning on going in bad weather with that? It's not going to do well in snow and ice. It's heavy too and if you get it stuck you will have a problem.
