With the 17ft MFJ 1979 On the coil it does cover 60m, But we don't recommend using them on the slidewinder coil as the wind loading is too much & can risk breaking the coil former.
Yes, I remember reading that from the information on your website, thankyou. If I was going to do that I would consider using light guys. I will be ordering an extension mast shortly and I will try the serial with 2 fitted and see what happens. I just love experimenting with this antenna system :)
@@bayamateurradiogroup Thank you, For your videos & to all our other customers who take time to show our products on You tube With there honest reviews of how our product work in the field etc.
Hi Ian, Thanks for doing the videos on the slidewinder antenna. a quick simple antenna to put together and looking at the location you chose to operate from brought back many happy memories back around 2004 when a small group of us including you went out to test our new group antenna..... "The Spiderbeam" which caused a great deal of interest from the passing public with the most common question "What Is It!?" I remember we joked after the event and belatedly decided our response should have been "Were testing a cockle sounder!" Red Bank Farm is a great location and a site that is becoming increasingly popular with Local Amateurs...... Thanks for all the tests.... As you know I took the plunge and went for the same type of setup you have...... Thanks to the guys at Slidewinder, they are easy to talk to, informative and you get a speedy delivery of a quality product. 73 Brian G0RDH 👴
Love the vid as experimentation is as important to me as operation. Have you given any thought to moving the coil up to see if that improves the efficiency? I’m interested as I want a backpack antenna that I can take out on my bike and car that is more easily deployable than my pole and end-fed setup. I have a MFJ whip but I’d be worried about the wind loading stress on the coil. So grateful to you for posting this vid. 73 Mike p.s. you can buy a very light portable chair - I can backpack mine.
Thankyou so much for the comment :). The extension mast moves the coil up of course. I have one myself now and will be trying with both to see what happens. There will be a tipping point I guess. I have moved the feed point up using the tripod as well. So many experiments to do, so little time :)
Yes I know what you mean, during Covid I did a lot of experimentation and called it Back Yard On The Air, sending info on to my fellow club mates. I had a great time and my wife and I looked at one another and agreed “ so this is what retirement is supposed to be like”. But life quickly consumed us with grand parent and other duties. Awaiting house move so paralysed at the moment and one of the reasons your vids are so enjoyable. Keep it up. Mike
Good video, food for thought. Time to start playing, ithink. Thank you Ian.
YEah! Get out there Ray :)

@@118bigtom Thanks Chris. It's a lot of fun. I have not tried your antenna but glad it works for you :)
Nice video but I still don't know the benefits of this extension. 73's
The main difference it makes is on the lower bands, especially 20m. I thought I had made that clear. My apologies if I did not. 73
@@bayamateurradiogroup Thank you very much :)
try two
Indeed Mike. I intend to order my own and try them together. Thanks :)
