    While it wouldn't surprise me at all for CR to ditch WoTC/DnD in favor of Daggerheart, I really hope they don't.
    A big part of my enjoyment of CR is watching them play a game that I also play with my friends. It's familiar, I understand the mechanics, and I can learn things to apply to my own games, or daydream about how I might handle similar situations if I, or my players, were the story that I'm watching. All that goes out the window with a new system: It's now foreign to me, I don't understand the rules, and I can't apply things to my game anymore.
    I think one reason that C3 and and Candela (and even Midst) haven't been connecting with me (or most critters, from what I've gathered) is they are far too focused on the "role play" and letting much of the "game" aspect fall to the side. As actors I think they are more drawn to that aspect and they routinely refer to themselves as "storytellers" etc., but it's the equal marriage of the "game" AND the "role play" that makes TTRPGs unique and they've lost sight of that.
    Candela, much of C3, and from what little I've seen of Daggerheart as well, have been dominated by long stretches of roleplay, improv, lore drops, etc. which seems great on paper, and it can be in practice, but without the equally as important cause and effect of decision vs. chance/dice it just becomes people telling campfire stories. You need the push and pull of the dice which should be telling as much of the story as the players, if not more, and I think that has been severely lacking in the back half of C3 and of CR prokects as of late.
    Daggerheart appears to be doubling down on that trend.
    But hey, they can play however they want. I guess that's a longwinded way to say, I'm not sure I'll keep watching if they keep that trend up and I'd bet I'm not the only one.

      I started watching Critical Role because it was a D&D campaign and I wanted to see them fight beholders and mindflayers etc but when they switch to Daggerheart i'm gone and i'm sure many others will stop watching too.

    Not my favorite story, but most important item is the shuttering of Dicebreaker. They were one of the few studios producing consistent coverage of all kinds of elements of the tabletop space. I hope all their behind and in front of the camera staff can find good jobs still covering what they love.
    New Pendragon looks cool. I’ve heard good things about how it encourages storytelling in the vein of traditional Arthurian Romance. Hope Pelgrane does well with that and the 13th Age 2e line.
    War of the Rohirrim looks 🔥

    RIP Dicebreaker, I honestly had never heard of them - either I’m just totally out of the loop, or their press game needed to be hella stronger.
    CR & Daggerheart, I lost almost all interest not long into the Moon visit and Ludinous Arc started in the late 50s and early 60s episodes. Daggerheart has done nothing to bring me back in, either. They’ve just lost something undefinable to me; maybe it’s the 4-sided Dive replacement of Talks; maybe it’s Robbie leaving, which brought a lot of new energy. (I hear he’s back, but in the face of everything else, it’s still not sparking my interest); maybe a combination of things.

    It would be in their best interest to set C4 using Daggerheart as I have mentioned several times.

    I dunno, I think the cast is enjoying it because they have to sell it. It's a part of their income to sell daggerheart😂

    What is Critical Role going to do for C4? Use 5E or OneD&D or Daggerheart?

    Why isn't HoMM TTRPG named Might and Magic, after the series of computer RPG, but after the turn-based strategy?

      if the polish studio had anything to do with it that would be your clue as to why - HOMM, in particular HOMM3 was huge in Poland. the MM series on the other hand, not so much.

    I still think they should ditch D&D for CR itself and use Daggerheart to keep everything in house and because it is a more enjoyable system

    • @CeliriaRose
      @CeliriaRose 3 місяці тому +2

      I expect they probably will. My guess is they will finish up campaign 3 in D&D for the sake of simplicity and not having to adapt everything over and then once that’s done they will make the shift towards their own systems.

    • @NovelVanguard
      @NovelVanguard 3 місяці тому +9

      Personally I hope not. They switched to DnD for a wider audience for a reason and admittedly while I like DaggerHeart I do think it has some flaws for a whole campaign series like what critical role has done. I’d honestly prefer they stay with DnD or do both

    • @WolfHeathen
      @WolfHeathen 3 місяці тому +7

      I don't think that would be a good idea. Compared to their main D&D campaign, barely anyone watches their Daggerheart stuff. People aren't really interested in watching/learning a new system that exists for seemingly no reason.
      Now, I understand why CR would want to get out from underneath the thumb of WotC but Daggerheart is just needlessly complicated. A D12 system, cards for some reason, new traits, a "hope and fear" system, the unnecessarily complicated point assignment system and the weird combat mechanics, the same number on both dice means it's a critical hit on a 2d12 roll, and on and on it goes... The only two things I like about this thing is that armor actually lowers the damage an enemy does to you and that you can level up your weapon proficiencies. Makes it feel a little more like a video game.
      But ultimately Daggerheart is so bogged down with its own system and mechanics that it's just not very fun to watch it being played.
