Regular videos are back! Got some great stuff coming with the Guardian, some more vehicles, weapons, and other various showcases I'm excited about. Hope you guys like this video and I'm looking forward to making more.
You could make the wombat(or any other vehicle) feel even faster if you make the FOV of the camera increase when boosting. Idk if the mod tools allow you to do that but that's something I've picked up on trying to make Unity games
Halo Reach has a great screen effect feature for that which I'll definitely use when I put this over there. As for 3, the best I can do is move the camera back a bit, which you can see subtly in this video. I think exaggerating that effect will look great, though!
Wow that test space map if you look carefully had stalwart class frigates and marathon class cruisers, the halo 2 UNSC navy ships, that's awesome, rather than the reach paris/halcyon ones in the final
My guess for the other 4 exaust ports? they were probably the extra boosters for space combat, as this was a manned wombat variant developed for the space combat of reach. Would be nice to add effects for it during vehicle boost and double the boost speed.
Ken specifically stated that the reason the Dronefighter is a Sabre Reskin is because it was meant to be flown only by AI, escorting the player's sabre as Wingmen, I think he said that the system is somewhat broken.
You should implement a two part reticle and only allow it to shoot directly infront of it. One reticle will stay center with the jet's nose the other and chevron like from the falcon in halo reach that moves with the camera. Increasing the size of the rounds and giving them a little AOE might be good too, but what would be awesome is if the rockets fired a 2-3 round burst. Really making this thing a unique addition to the sandbox
Absolutely awesome as always. I don't know if it's possible to add custom HUD for each weapon on mod tools, or even animations for the canopy, but it could look even better.
A custom HUD is definitely something I'm adding before I release this mod. 50/50 on the canopy because it's a lot of extra work for a small detail, but definitely not discounting it!
May I suggest in order to better balance the "lore accurate" missiles, you could simply have it as a third firing mode that either has an insanely long cooldown time, or they can only be used once and only comes back after the entire jet respawns. Something like that would really help it to stand out in the sandbox, I think.
As much as I love the original concept of the wombat being a drone as lore wise that sounds so smart for the UNSC to implement, i definitely think how you handled the wombat as more of a man piloted jet is really awesome. I love your content and love your work. Literally probably the only reason I have any interest in halo right now in these trying times.
God that hangar on the first map you walked around on brings back memories of the pc version of halo CE, i remember spending hours playing on my dads old pc on the massive maps with the longswords. Good times
I dunno how much work it would be, but if you could make it so the outside of the hanger is surrounded by a crashed Frigate, which has become part of the rocky background, I think it would look a lot cooler than how it is in the rockface!
I'm pretty sure those two things on the back that you had the fire coming out of one of them in the second damage state, I think they're secondary engines outputs or something, definitely not air intakes since those would be on the front and not the back since if they faced backwards it would be physically impossible for them to actually pull air in if it's going at any speed. Also, I feel like a human craft that relies on actual aerodynamics to get airborne, rather than alien antigrav tech, would have a lot more inertial glide to it than that when you go from full flight thrust to nil? Seems like it might be a tad close to a Banshee for it is all. Anyway, it's damn cool that you're doing this at all, and I hope you keep doing well

Possibly either just rockets, or maybe ramjets to enable the aircraft to transit out of a planet’s atmosphere, and into orbit. If not possible, ramjets would allow the Wombat to cruise at very high speeds and at very high altitudes. I had an idea for the rockets. You could say the two mounted munitions are actually rocket pods that hold the rockets themselves. There’s been many aerodynamically-shaped rocket pods over the years. It’s very feasible rocket pods for the Wombat would have such a shape to limit as much drag as possible since the thing operates at high speeds. Once depleted, the clamps holding the pods would release, and the pods would drop away.
This is without a doubt one of the most amazing mods I have ever seen, the only gripe I have is that I think it should be moving a bit faster, otherwise than that no complaints. However I do have a question, do you plan to make the booster frame from Halo Legends?
Wombat is a pretty good name I think stiletto would also be a good choice. Wikipedia definition: A stiletto (Italian: [stiˈletto]) is a knife or dagger with a long slender blade and needle-like point, primarily intended as a stabbing weapon. I think this would be a nice little nod towards the long sword and short sword fighter.
A Razorback is still a name of a hog you dingus, since its a variant of the Wombat it would probably be Super Wombat like the upgraded F/A-18 which made the Hornet into Super Hornet but then again the Wombat is weird in that it breaks the naming convention being neither a flying animal or blade weapon. Maybe its because its was originally a drone so drone naming conventions might have went by animals that sound like something else since Wombat would make you think its a flying bat when its actually just a borderline ground rat to represent it being unmanned? Then again there are always exceptions to the rule like the F-111 Aardvark but thats a different aircraft from the F/A-18 so Super Wombat it is.

Edit to those who saying im shitting on modern Halo for no reason. Vehicles turn red and blow up with little to no detail. The Phantom disappears in an anti climatic explosion. Number company cuts corners. This has more detail in the same engine from 2006. But yeah I must be making things up

@@TotallyNotObito look with all due respect to Rejected, the content he's got here IS all scavenged stuff from devkits and retooled assets. He's done an incredible job but you're really coping. Rejected's work is fantastic, it is mostly built on an existing foundation is the thing.
6:56 I think they're supposed to be the in atmosphere engines while the zero G engines are the blue ones on the outside for better maneuverability like on the saber

The big custom map you're on reminds me of some old Halo Custom Edition Community MP map with a bunch of vehicles. Even down to the hanger bay recessed into the cliff side. Lol you mentioned it 30 seconds after I commented
You did a really great job. This the 2023 halo release type weve been wanting since, well well forever ago. I wish bungie never stopped and they carried their halo assets like those trees over and over again into the next games like even for 60 and 90fps. Love it. You killed it, really 100.
for the final damage state, i'd reccomend tearing off the port or starboard side thruster/wing modules. LOT of extra work, but the debris would look way cooler when it's shot out of the sky.
Space fights were suppose to be a thing in halo reach where you get to have firefight in space and multiplayer team death match where you can to pick and customize your own fighter but sadly it was only input into a mission because of how lengthy and complex the system was.

This makes me want to play a Halo game where the main character is a pilot who is driving one of these. They'd be dogfighting some Banshees and get shot down, and have to survive behind enemy lines, ODST style.

Looks awesome. I think the top intakes/engines would probably be scramjet/ramjet engine. The missiles on the bottom look like they’d probably be nukes, that’s why they’re so big. Would be cool to see them in space combat.
I had an idea when watching the stream the other day with regards to the Hugeass central base. The Spire of course makes most sense, and I hope you do that, but my idea was to give some counterbalance to the offset central base and make the lake more of a usable area by putting an old crashed Frigate in the middle of the water, maybe put an objective or power weapon/vehicle in it, creating a semi-aquatic combat zone. Maybe even add a few simple boats so it can be accessed without aircraft.
The 4 extra thrusters were most likely boosters to enter space. My guess is that this was the original concept model for the ship we use to enter space to defend that space station
Might be something like Scrabble jets which are meant for hyper Sonic speeds in theory they haven't been used in combat yet or any official applications due to being in the prototype stage of development.
I think it would be a cool touch if the landing gear you added snapped off and became a separate physics object when you destroyed it or even for one of the other damage states.
yah was about to say. He said it was still decently fast but honestly i think its still really slow for a "fighter". He should make the standard speed the boost speed and the boost speed like 2 or 4 times the current amount. To add even more to the critisism, he is using it as a interpretation of the fighter from hugeass but the fighter in hugeass went really fast so it honestly should just be faster.
It would be totally sick if you had a big team battle style on this map with vehicles. One side UNSC and the other covenant with their own weapons and vehicles. That would be absolutely crazy. Or even like BF1 operations style game.
It would be dope for this to be a "remotely" operated vehicle, where a console/monitor has to be found on the map in order to be teleported into the Wombat, and once exited, teleports back to the monitor
That map looks great. It instantly reminds me of a Halo CE custom map from the PC version called simply Huge Ass. It had longswords and Pillar of Autumn style hangars on each side, and it was the maximum size possible within the Halo CE engine, about 7km wide if I remember correctly. Man I really miss those days. Coldsnap was easily the best custom map, and yoyorast island as well. The jet looks great though. It makes me kind of sad that the main Halo games have stepped away from this kind of military art style, but for a custom map fan it's a million times better then the ugly ass jets from those custom maps. Edit: alright I wrote this comment early and just got to the point where you said the map is called Huge Grass. You got me.
I would assume the "air intakes" are bigger engines but with covers on. It would make sense that they are for space faring, or just going really fast (like in the cutscene), whereas the current ones are for a similar purpose as shown here. Would be nice if you did something like that, perhaps when firing the boost they turn on. Would be neat to see something go really fast.
IAT in atmosphere thruster IST in space thruster (scram jet/ blue jet pulses of spacecraft) Looks like the longbow(?) That is mentioned in the halo books.
the rear engines, I would say the ones you showed as jet engines look correct, but I think the other 4 nozzels, could be for space flight, using solid or liquid rocket fuel, as you couldn't use the same nozzel for in atmosphear and space, but who knows, it looks great either way, good job
i would turn the "air intakes" as you called them into rocket engines. as an even faster boost. this is supposed to be a space fighter, so it would make sense for this thing to be faster than normal air vehicles in the boost x2 mode, like how the sabre and covenant space fighters work. make this light space fighter super versatile like that to make it unique. giving it effectively two modes to fly it in. no other vehicle does this.
I think what you mistook as intakes are actually just supposed to be more engines. The air intakes this just are at the base of the wings, with two on each.
It would be interesting ( for fan fiction purposes)if this was a separatist developed vehicle that of course didn't have shields, but relied upon a high performance foamed Titanium A battle plate, and carbon polymer ceramic laminate lace offering it more protection than most unshielded UNSC fighters, but still only moderately more effective against Covenant plasma weaponry. It would have two home grown anti ship missiles that came paired with an AI simulacrum program to better defend against physical and electronic countermeasures, but the piece de resistance was its twin pulsed lasers which delivered 1/3 the energy of a Spartan Laser(per laser assembly) but fired 4 times as fast thus delivering lethal fire to shielded and unshielded opponents alike. Combined with it's high speed manuverability and an onboard "dumb" AI, this fighter would go on as a short lived but very fearsome opponent of the UNSC and Covenant, leading to both sides coincidentally calling the craft the Demon.
Hmm, i could also see those big missiles being dropped as bombs instead. Maybe they could pop out, and after some time blow up as some smaller cluster bombs?

If the cockpit completely separates it would be cool if you were able to survive the crash and be able to exit the cockpit shell, amazing work man!

I used to mod Halo Custom Edition. The pelican had a fully modeled flight model. You could fly it exactly the way it looked like it would.

something you could do with some slight texture modifications is make the 2 big missiles into missile pods of some form

Oh my god, I remember the Hugeass map! It was one of only three or four maps that I could ever get to work on my PC. Played for hours at a time on it.

I’ve been playing around with ultimate forge and I’ve been absolutely loving it. Have a huge invasion map planned for it just for the hell of it

To add even more to the critisism, he is using it as a interpretation of the fighter from hugeass but the fighter in hugeass went really fast so it honestly should just be faster.

I think those "missiles" might actually be laser guided bombs. It'd be amazing if you could do bombing runs in halo.
If I had to name it I'd call it a cutless, because the saber... Cutless, you get it.
It would be totally sick if you had a big team battle style on this map with vehicles. One side UNSC and the other covenant with their own weapons and vehicles. That would be absolutely crazy. Or even like BF1 operations style game.
It would be dope for this to be a "remotely" operated vehicle, where a console/monitor has to be found on the map in order to be teleported into the Wombat, and once exited, teleports back to the monitor
As a lover of UNSC vehicles, this video is just the tops.
I am so happy to see a remake of Hugeass. It is my all time favorite Custom Edition map. Incredibly based.
That map looks great. It instantly reminds me of a Halo CE custom map from the PC version called simply Huge Ass. It had longswords and Pillar of Autumn style hangars on each side, and it was the maximum size possible within the Halo CE engine, about 7km wide if I remember correctly. Man I really miss those days. Coldsnap was easily the best custom map, and yoyorast island as well.
The jet looks great though. It makes me kind of sad that the main Halo games have stepped away from this kind of military art style, but for a custom map fan it's a million times better then the ugly ass jets from those custom maps.

I would assume the "air intakes" are bigger engines but with covers on. It would make sense that they are for space faring, or just going really fast (like in the cutscene), whereas the current ones are for a similar purpose as shown here.
Would be nice if you did something like that, perhaps when firing the boost they turn on. Would be neat to see something go really fast.
Could be something like the SABER engine. Air breathing in the atmosphere, rocket like in space.

the rear engines, I would say the ones you showed as jet engines look correct, but I think the other 4 nozzels, could be for space flight, using solid or liquid rocket fuel, as you couldn't use the same nozzel for in atmosphear and space, but who knows, it looks great either way, good job

i would turn the "air intakes" as you called them into rocket engines. as an even faster boost. this is supposed to be a space fighter, so it would make sense for this thing to be faster than normal air vehicles in the boost x2 mode, like how the sabre and covenant space fighters work.
make this light space fighter super versatile like that to make it unique. giving it effectively two modes to fly it in. no other vehicle does this.

I think what you mistook as intakes are actually just supposed to be more engines. The air intakes this just are at the base of the wings, with two on each.
It looks like a mix between an F-35, F/A-18 Hornet and the ADFX-01 Morgan. Pretty sick if you ask me
Wait you're recreating Hugeass?? That's absolutely wild, I used to play on maps like that and Opsey's old RP maps.
It would be interesting ( for fan fiction purposes)if this was a separatist developed vehicle that of course didn't have shields, but relied upon a high performance foamed Titanium A battle plate, and carbon polymer ceramic laminate lace offering it more protection than most unshielded UNSC fighters, but still only moderately more effective against Covenant plasma weaponry. It would have two home grown anti ship missiles that came paired with an AI simulacrum program to better defend against physical and electronic countermeasures, but the piece de resistance was its twin pulsed lasers which delivered 1/3 the energy of a Spartan Laser(per laser assembly) but fired 4 times as fast thus delivering lethal fire to shielded and unshielded opponents alike. Combined with it's high speed manuverability and an onboard "dumb" AI, this fighter would go on as a short lived but very fearsome opponent of the UNSC and Covenant, leading to both sides coincidentally calling the craft the Demon.
