Watching this episode I was presented with an advertisement for a Bible Study app. I'm feeling blessed that people are attempting to save my soul from painting it black and then dry brushing pewter.
Some tips. For painting unpainted plastic pieces note that most plastics have a mold release or sealant that prevents proper paint adhesion and will cause paint chipping. To get around this, using a 3M buffing sponge to abrade the surface and then prime and paint. Also, instead of dry brushing with paint you can use weathering pigments which are pigmented powders you wipe into a painted surface like applying makeup. You can layer an array of metallic colors for an aged patina look and since you're using actual metal powders it looks highly realistic. Just note to seal the powder with a laquer coat when done or the powder will rub off.
I am going to add that plastic items might need to be weighted at the bottom I keep them from being knocked over. Decor needs to stay where you put it.
It surprised me how those candles are actually huge LOL! I've never seen them in person 🤣..... Oh the Rocky Horror puns 🖤🖤🖤🖤made my day.... BUT MAYBEEEEEE THE RAIN! 🤣
Please correct me if I'm wrong but how is Voltaire not sponsored by Krylon!! At this point they need to work with and name a shade after him lol Another wonderful video as always Voltaire! I will definitely have to try this technique!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The best part of this technique is that by replacing the silver color with copper or brass, you can Steampunk your whole secret mad scientist's lair and make it look like the interior of an airship! {looking around nervously} Not that I ever tried to do anything like that myself, oh, no! {quickly hiding my "brass" goggles behind my back...} The cool thing about tutorials like these is that they can easily be adapted to your favorite genre with a little creativity! Thanks so much for posting these, they're so handy for us creative misfits!
I’m a artist, florist and creepy crafter and I really appreciate your ingenuity and talents in giving these mass production pieces a more upscale makeover 👏🏻
Oh wow! Yes, you *can* see the difference on the candle holders. The extra layers give a sense of a more substantial item than before! Love that extra touch of velvet on the framed skeleton piece. Who could ever have thumbs-downed this episode?????
You have made my whole perspective on what to buy and not and how I can alter the appearance of decor and make it new and add it to my lair!! My daughter and I thank you for this very episode!!
I've known a long time about dry brushing thin, black paint into crevices for texture, but I never thought about it the other way around. Thanks for another trick in the toolbox.
The tips about dry-brush techniques bringing out details is also true for miniature models. Never really expected to see tips I've seen in Warhammer 40k painting videos here. Once this gods forsaken lockdown is finally over I might try to finally begin transforming some of the things in my home. These videos have been rather inspirational.
I just did this technique with one of the HomeGoods resin skull candelabras. It started out hot Barbie pink. I sprayed it with semigloss black, dry brushed silver gilding paint over it, then hit it with matte clear coat. It looks amazingly good now!
Great ideas to make it go from cheap to chic ....wonderful tips for any craft. Who needs Martha Stewart when we got you and you are way cuter too! Thanks!!!
Great video! Though the framed skeleton still looks a bit lacking....maybe it's just me but maybe there should be a decorative heart inside the rib cage? A splash of red to mix up the color a bit?
you could also try Rust-Oleum's Hammered spray paint. I'm wanting to try that or this method on some cheap plastic Dollar Tree gothic frames i got during Halloween.
Do this all the time. I like high end Halloween for my Haunted House. Was told my witches brews were looks like my witch has OCD. Everything clean and crisp
I love your channel and your music. Plus how you teach us how to make cool stuff. Glad someone got me hooked on your music bc it's funny as hell for music.
I'm really "digging" that skeleton frame with the black velvet background. Really feels like the bones are coming from a dark whole. Super cool effet ! Thanks 4 your tutorals they're awsome ;)
What a beautiful piece! I need to make a little dead guy of my own! 🖤 I use this technique for items I find in stores however I’m pretty strapped for cash more of the time so instead of using brush and leaf I use a metallic silver sharpie style marker pen and some kitchen roll to achieve the same affect.
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I'm working on some projects myself, and this definitely gave me inspiration to make them that much more interesting. Now, I'm off in search of Brush 'N Leaf!
Nice pull out at the end Dude! That is super long! Now I know what to do with all of those extra bones that I have laying around. Thank you for this video!
Wow this is amazing and I will be trying this out. The final skeleton frame looks awesome. How about a Santa Muerte themed piece one day !!! Now that i would love to see, a gothic homemaking Santa Muerte edition 👍👍👍
I have a crystal ball just like the one you made. The only difference is mine is kinda like a snow globe with smokey stuff in it and a spinning mechanism than makes it swirl and a light. There are also a few different details in the base.
I was wondering how I would pant a cheep looking black metal candelabra that looks plastic. This method I think would be perfect for making it look better and I'm glad I saw your video !

My soul was painted black a long time ago.
I was made with a black heart now I just have to dry brush it

Do you happen to have any DIY webpages/blog or even a YT channel to demonstrate techniques? I’d like to learn more.
😊👍
Man, this reminds me of painting gunpla
I am going to add that plastic items might need to be weighted at the bottom I keep them from being knocked over.
Decor needs to stay where you put it.
These pieces are GORGEOUS! Have you ever considered starting an etsy page for your creations?
invaderzimts he sells stuff on his website :)
It surprised me how those candles are actually huge LOL! I've never seen them in person 🤣..... Oh the Rocky Horror puns 🖤🖤🖤🖤made my day....
BUT MAYBEEEEEE THE RAIN! 🤣
IS REALLY TO BLAME... -_^
Yes, it's always nice to be able to work in a Rocky Horror reference or two, isn't it now?
Ikr! XD
I like to imagine there's a black void outside Voltaire's apartment where he spray paints all his pieces. (I'm sure he uses cardboard)
Please correct me if I'm wrong but how is Voltaire not sponsored by Krylon!! At this point they need to work with and name a shade after him lol Another wonderful video as always Voltaire! I will definitely have to try this technique!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Voltaire Black by Krylon.

I’m a artist, florist and creepy crafter and I really appreciate your ingenuity and talents in giving these mass production pieces a more upscale makeover 👏🏻
I love this show so much! But Orville really has it coming.
Oh wow! Yes, you *can* see the difference on the candle holders. The extra layers give a sense of a more substantial item than before! Love that extra touch of velvet on the framed skeleton piece. Who could ever have thumbs-downed this episode?????
I love your lair and I wish my house was as beautifully decorated as yours, but GODS, thinking about dusting all that stuff regularly stresses me out.
Well, depending on your goal a little dust could be a plus😁
This series will never get old. Can't wait until I have a place I can customize more
You have made my whole perspective on what to buy and not and how I can alter the appearance of decor and make it new and add it to my lair!! My daughter and I thank you for this very episode!!
Oh My Goth. the Idea of you as Dr. Frankenfurter in a Rocky Horror Review is... Please consider adding a Rocky horror song to your stage show.
I have often played Science fiction Double Feature on stage. 😉
I've known a long time about dry brushing thin, black paint into crevices for texture, but I never thought about it the other way around. Thanks for another trick in the toolbox.
I could watch drybrushing details all day! So satisfying!
Aaaah i love them all. On impulse i would've swap the crystal ball with actual an glass one
The crystal ball is made of glass though...
Looking wildly around my apartment for things to use Brush N Leaf on. Thanks for the inspiration!
Voltaire: "And my secret weapon?"
Me: Rub n' buff!!
Voltaire: "Brush n' Leaf!"
I was so close lol
They definitely look much nicer, I’m gonna have to try this myself!

Your fun & crafty videos have kept my spirits up in these weird times. Thank you 💜😷

Dude thanks for adding humor in your videos! It makes it even more fun!

Thank you for the idea to brush the leaf paint on to items I have a raven skull cane I plan to use in a similar effect

I'm really "digging" that skeleton frame with the black velvet background. Really feels like the bones are coming from a dark whole. Super cool effet ! Thanks 4 your tutorals they're awsome ;)
For smooth plastic pieces you could always pick up some textural spray to apply sparsely before hand, give it a cast iron-esque appearance
Thank you so much for these videos. They bring me so much joy!
As usual, you come up with the best ideas. I can’t believe how incredible that skeleton frame came out. Great, as usual!
"...bats that flit around my steam pipe." Oh, behave!

What a beautiful piece!
