This man was vlogging even before vlogging had any existence...
without kidding, besides his wonderful life style, he also knew very well how to write and thus create this voice over in a way that is close to be very poetic and rather novelistic, all in all his story is told in very lovely style and language use. Thanks for uploading this amazing footage, am very grateful for seeing this and other related videos. Thanks! Be safe and be with nature!
I have watched his show at least 4 times it never gets old.Even the wife enjoyed.
I love Alone in The Wilderness so much. It’s such a relaxing, soothing and calming thing to watch.
I use to watch this before my night shifts to calm my mind.
It also helps when I get anxiety and depressed.
One of or probably the smartest man I have ever watched..may you RIP my friend
Blew my mind 20 or 30 years ago, great to see it again.
The narrator couldn't have been better. What a great voice for this!
Jaw dropping when he made the hinges! 😊 Legend!
7:30 sawing ..... DAMN!!
What a wonderful and inspiring person, pure example of perseverance thank you so much for sharing may he rest in peace
Love this series. His craftsmanship is second to none. His food was delicious. He should release a cook book of his back country meals and desserts.
I love this. This came on tv one early rainy morning and it was just so peaceful and interesting, it was a good start to a cozy day off. 😊
this is how man is supposed to live
Yeah. If you hate people.
@@mtntime1 just liberals maybe
1976 Bronx, I'm sorry the entire world doesn't share your narrow vision that only conservatives are good. Besides, this video has nothing whatsoever to do with politics.
I read that the pilot that brought him mail and supplies was always saying that he would bring the "mission girls " for a visit ! It never happened. Or if it did he did not write it in his journal. Who knows ? The pilot does !
mtntime1 not if your not a millennial pussy like you he was a man that enjoyed nature and like living off the land
Might just be one of the last guys to live his life the way it is supposed to be lived.
RIP Dick
I have watched this countless times
My dad used to force me to watch this every so often as a kid lol. This man was insanely knowledgeable
And this all took place AFTER his 51st birthday.
He stayed at Twin Lakes up until his 80's, if I recall correctly.
82 correct passed away short time later why you ask well he got very bored use too working very hard body shut down
@@davidstinson5095 He died of a stroke.
I'm watching again 2nd time in 12 hours!!
I love this guy's videos. It so provokes me and inspires me to do something very similar. I have done slightly similar things in the past... Will than 10 years total under my belt living in tents, camping open air, or camping in vehicles. That time includes the 6 months I spent hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Im.too.old? To even consider it? But even 40 years ago I could do that? Or wouldnt? But great video!
His building and craftsman skills seemed second to none. I've been in awe watching these shows since I was a teenager.
Amazing. No one has ever built a home from raw materials except this guy. Amazing.
This is a very old doc-film. I remember watching this guy's life story back in my late teens, about 17-18yrs old. I am 64 now. PBS has this in archive.
Bobby Rogers im 63 i watched it on PBS probably 20 yrs ago
I could watch this program once a year and not tire of it,,,
Thank you for posting these videos. I have seen them before. But enjoy the story.
Video series like this and Jeremiah Johnson keep things in perspective.
Proenneke defines the term "Legend." Dude built that cabin with hand tools and sheer will.
Well to be fair this is what people did before power tools.
These videos should be a requirement to be shown as part of curriculum for all public high schools.
Defines fit as a fiddle. Master wood craftsman too. Great rare man.
His woodcraft is amazing. I don't think I've seen another UA-cam video that equals it. Usually they have machines doing the work. But not this guy... so simple, yet beautiful.
Check out " My Self Reliance channel " that guy does a really good job as well .
Shawn James has a video where he travels and tours Dick Proneneki’s Cabin. This year.
Extreme master woodworking skills and a great deal of patience's.
I am so amazed he could saw the log in half straight! There is no way I could do that.
Dick is the definition of wise ....he reminds me of my grandfather to a tee ... he is passed away now so this is priceless to me ... thanks you for posting ... we need to go back to teaching kids this and learning how good life can be without anything but nature ...
I watched this all in woodshop in highschool. I appreciate it so much more now. A man truly at peace
If anyone has cut a board with a hand saw, you must know how insane cutting a board that thick and that long must be
I cut a board that way using a vice to hold it. The vice was attached to a heavy table. The entire table shook and stuff kept falling off the damn table.
I cut a 12 inch wide beam with a bow saw I also have trimmed a tree with the same bow saw so I know I can do it thank God 🙏
Yes ripping is harder than doing a cross cut. It usually takes a special blade with teeth shaped differently. White pine cuts easier than most other trees but still quite an impressive feat.
This is how I want to live ...Free free of the troubles of modern life and big cities. Keep your fancy coffee and social media I only need the simple things
Simple coffee... my favorite 🤤👍👍
Says the guy watching videos on his portable electronic device using WiFi
@@BudFuddlacker Doesnt mean he enjoys it.
@@BudFuddlacker that’s what he needs now, he’s saying he wouldn’t out there.. don’t you get it?
I really like watching these vids, this guy is awesome! He's been living off the grid for decades, before all this reality TV crap of people living in the bush.. This guy was already out there baby 👍
My late dad....built our homestead all by hand..he cut timber from the land...for the two barns one for the horses..one for the cows..started in 1970...by 1972 all 3 buildings were done...all by hand...a tiny portable lumber mill....no electricity till 1973...no indoor plumbing till 1983....we planted gardens every year...hunted moose..dear..fished....picked berries for winter months ..i love my parents sssoooo much for making us work so bloody hard....the best life....thee absolute best...
@@fredgarvin9262 u sound like u like to stereotype people...i had no idea only natives ate wild meat but im sure i saw dick proenicke eating mountain sheep in the video...
For weeks after seeing the PBS show a decade ago, I couldn't get the sight of him assembling the door hinges (among other incredible visual delights) out of my mind. I still watch bits and pieces when the need to leave civilization hits, if only vis a vis these film snippets which always work their magic. Thank you Mr. Proenneke. You're the definition of nature's hero personified.
