    I’ve been on a binge streak on almost all your videos your analysis skills are too good and your breakdowns are so easy to understand especially when you have your voice in them! I need more!

      Thanks for the nice words. I hate the sound of my voice so I had been avoiding using it where ever possible. Their will be more videos for sure. The next one should be out Saturday.

      @@bigbearfencing ahh I see can’t force you to do anything you don’t want to haha. But just so you know I find it rather soothing it sounds like a voice of a experienced coach. Can’t wait for your next one!

    One of the hardest working athletes in the history of the sport. My old coach trained with him a couple of times and said when all the other fencers would take breaks during training camp Koloblov be doing footwork in front of a mirror or point control drills, etc. all day every day. Loved watching him.

    so subtle is the change in movement, yet devastating

    Excellent breakdown of the move! It is definitely a higher-level action, though, since novice and intermediate fencers might not even respond to the feint in the first place.

      Thanks for the nice words. Your right too, many fencers wouldn't bite on the provocation. Even in this match, out side of the single instance here, Kolobkov had been throwing out the feint for most of a full period. He wore down Fernandez to get him to this point.

      Yep, that's what I thought too. Fencer with less experience is less likely to go after that, unlike experienced fencer.
      When I fenced an experienced fencer in the tournament, I actually duped him into such feints, which made him think he will get me. in result he ran into my hits, before reaching me. He was pretty upset with that one.

    I met Kolobkov in person once when he came to fence at the place I had been training at at that time... and I was so “starstruck” so to say that I started mumbling something incoherent along the lines of “you are my fencing hero, I am so proud to meet you” 😅🤦‍♂️ You should have seen the guy’s face... he really was dumbfounded with my behavior and me trying to soften that awkward moment surely ruined it even more, ahahaha 🤷‍♂️😂

      Did you have the opportunity to fence a few bouts against him?

    • @Vfr143
      @Vfr143 3 роки тому +4

      @@bigbearfencing Unfortunately not, he came just for a few bouts with veterans and then had to leave - he was minister of sports at the time and this was his second (or maybe even first) training session after a long-long pause in his fencing activity - he hadn’t fenced for many years. That’s what those veterans told me afterwards in the locker room

    Tried that one. Worked like a charm! But it woorks with more experienced fences, who read footwork and think of distance. Less experienced folks don't bite it.

    Watch max heinzer for some more body feint ideas

  • @Sabreyt-xm2gn
    @Sabreyt-xm2gn 3 роки тому +1

    So the idea is to open the body, drop the guard, reset the distance and use the same feint again right? I wonder that if I use the same feint, how can I make it more dangerous? Oh, great video by the way sir.

    • @bigbearfencing
      @bigbearfencing  3 роки тому +3

      Its the threat of what might happen that makes feints dangerous. If your opponents don't react to your feints, turn them into real attacks and punish their lack of respect. Then, next time you feint, it will be more likely to get a response.

    • @bigbearfencing
      @bigbearfencing  3 роки тому +2

      I believe his repeated feint with different footwork is more of a read on his opponent. Sometimes you do an action and you can feel and see that your opponent figured it out, and you just know that are going to try to attack into your timing. In these scenarios doing something that is almost the same, but has a key difference (in this case the lack of step changes the distance just enough) can punish this sort of read.

    Sorry to disagree.. but I think you've got this hit completely wrong. There was no great feat of strategic genius by Kolobkov here. He actually got somewhat lucky. His final gesture was not him telling Fernandez "Stop complaining. I out-thought you." Pavel was immediately acknowledging to Fernandez (who thought there might be something wrong with his equipment) that even though he had earned what, in most situations, would have been at least a double hit... his lightning quick lunge attack on this occasion had landed on Kolobkov's mask... and for that reason had not registered. This used to happen quite a lot... so most fencers would recognise that gesture. You would strike the mask (sometimes full-on) with your attack... and for whatever reason... even though you could clearly feel the hit with your point and arm... it would not register. That is what it looks like here... judging by both fencers responses.
