    Historically cans were sealed with lead solder instead of the modern clever system set of compressed folds, and I’d imagine it’s another instance of Fallout’s prewar keeping terrible historical practices that we've abandoned/outlawed. I wouldn’t expect a can to have enough to make even a single 55 grain (-weight of jacket) projectile though.
    I think the trays are actually just (waxed) cardboard, not styrofoam (a petroleum plastic).

  • @marblemunkey
    @marblemunkey 8 місяців тому +7

    Lead from tin cans actually makes sense. Tin cans were originally sealed with lead solder, and this was only eliminated from domestic production in the US (in our timeline) in 1991, and in 1995 from imported goods according to the USDA website.

    RE: the metal pole and dynamite to get into Mariposa... Dynamite becomes progressively less stable over time as the nitroglycerin within it condenses and even leaks out, in a honey-like consistency. Pre-war dynamite could likely be set off just by throwing a rock at it, no real prep needed... It would be harder to move it around WITHOUT detonating.

    The great thing about Pre-War Money and the Sierra Madre is that the casino itself has a 10,000 chip win limit. Since the bills you exchange the chips for are worth 10 caps apiece, this means that the development team pretty much said "here's 300,000 caps you can't (rather, aren't supposed to be able to take) as driving home the message of the DLC, also here's a cool 100,000 caps we totally intend for you to leave with," something which is hugely overlooked by people talking about how much money this DLC gives you.

    32:10 Aluminum is widely known for its ability not to rust, so perhaps it has a thin Aluminum coating that kept it preserved. Besides ideal conditions.

    Thoughts throughout the video
    - I am glad I wasn't the only one who thought the Lone Wanderer ate the nuka cola bottle. It's what immediately came to mind and seeing a comment reinforcing that made me laugh
    - Tenpenny Tower has all of the "Large Whiskey Bottles" because Tenpenny is British, where the preferred Whiskey consumed would likely be Scotch instead of Bourbon. (I am a whiskey drinker)
    - I hope you do make the "Homemade Sunset Sarsaparilla" recipe as shown in game. Totally would watch that video.

    FYI regarding your radiation video.
    The Glow is so radioactive that it bugs out the games calculations if you wait in the pipboy. Waiting the maximum 6 hours causes the per minute calculations to be lower, while shorter waits give higher per minute.
    Your best bet for a fully accurate count is to MASH the Geiger counter button. If you wanna avoid wasting time to check the Pipboy, set a TNT timer for 3 minutes that will finish for you. The numbers at The Glow are a staggering 30 Rads per click, which at around 2 and a half clicks per second is 75 Rads/second. You will use up the battery of your geiger counter in less time than the TNT takes to run and you will be well into the thousands.
    Nowhere else in the game does that or really has much radiation at all(There's a small random chance of being irradiated everywhere in the map, especially at Necropolis and LA, but it's low and random so seemingly in universe you might just occasionally walk on-top of a hot spot or random hot particle on occasion).
    I am curious if this method results in higher numbers at the two radioactive locations in 2, The Power Plant and The Toxic Waste Dump.

    Reminds me of the sonnet Ozymandias:
    I met a traveller from an antique land,
    Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
    Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
    Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
    And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
    Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
    Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
    The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
    And on the pedestal, these words appear:
    My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
    Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
    Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
    Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
    The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

    "The Cask of Amontillado" reference in the Castle is actually a double reference.
    Fort Independence, the Castles real name, has an urban legend dating back to when the fort was being made.
    Legend says, long story short, that while the fort was still being built, one high-ranking officer killed another high-ranking officer.
    But the one that was killed was really beloved by his men.
    So the men captured the killer, chained him up and put him in a wall that wasn't finished and then built it the rest of the way and let him die.
    That myth is one of the things that inspired Edgar to write The Cask of Amontillado.
    So putting the wine, and skeleton at Fort Independence is just a massive multilayer reference.

    @31:30 or so: not all "tin cans" are actually aluminum or, indeed, tin. Most in the 1950s would have been tinned steel, and aluminum cans gradually replaced them starting in the 60s. Presumably, the Unrusted Tin Can is unrusted because it actually has a layer of aluminum, while the rusting kind were just steel cans (with or without a thin layer of tin that has been lost to the 200 years of weather.)
