  • My 2nd 630. A revised model, see the piston. Writes much better than my first. A big pen. For you?

Thanks for the great/honest review Chris. One of my favorite things about your channel is that you frequently explore more than 1 of a given model. I like seeing consistency and variables.

I just received a translucent red square ended version today with a steel nib. Wow.

Great review! I have the black and gold Wing Sung 630 with Robert oster Gold Antiqua in it. It's a great writer. My 629 is one of my all time favorite writers and I have it in the blue, with a tick of gray, which I think is a great color., inked with Iroshizuko Ama Iro.Your red 630 sold me, and I am getting one to add to the set.

This is the kind of reviews we need, so that we can make good purchasing decisions.

The center rings are different. I thought I had heard somewhere that there are different factories making these. My 630 is like your red one. I may be interested in a 14k nibbed 630 or 629, but would have to be a pretty good deal. Mass 54th is a Noodlers ink that I don't have - I like it! Thanks for the great review.

I have this pen with the 14K nib. I am amazed how wet it writes.
One thing I will tell you is pulling the nib and feed. Initially it is very, very difficult to get out. Once I did it, removing and and reinserting it is a breeze but getting it out initially is tough.

I would use a knock out block. But order 2 extra nibs I'll work on those.

I’m a big fan of this pen; I have a flat top version on the way that I’m excited about. I find my normal black one to be very well made, and this is coming from someone with everything from a Pilot Falcon to a Pelikan M1005.
Now Wing Sung needs to offer a stainless steel #10 size nib. I’d throw my money at them, because who doesn’t like big nibs?

My experience, bigger nibs do not always have better writing. Many time it is the opposite. But they do look nice.

The flat top version or Pro Gear posts not loosely. The cap, one turn; not one and a half. But one turn not smoothly. I can live with that. I don't see steel 630 nib units for sell, only the nib alone. Although I like it, It's a pity that there is only this F/M

I had a pen, I forget which, Chinese nice pen skipped horribly. I found out the dies that punch and shape the nib are oiled and every once in a while the feed and or ink slit ends with a minuscule amount of oil. I rinsed my pen with a mix of hot water, a little ammonia, and a drop or two of Dawn blue. I ran it through three or four times and rinsed it out thoroughly and the skipping stopped. It you rinsed it out already with no go results I would pull out the nib and clean it in an ultrasonic cleaner. I have a Clear Red Flattop on the way. Great video, I enjoy your videos.

Good suggestion. I flush every pen with soapy water before inking. Next I'll be replacing the nib.

All pens write wet and smooth right after filling them from a bottle of ink. The question is, will it write that way after the feed is no longer extra saturated once you go through a couple of pages? I bought the 630 black when they first came out...the nib was 'ok' but bent out of shape easily. Bought another nib for it which was worse than the first one. The pen is constructed well enough. But the nib is cheap and not good. The jinhao X159 medium nib is way better.

I do not find the 630 nib soft, I haven't bent any. The Jinhao No. 8 medium nibs are better. The heartbeat nibs are even better.

I appreciate the honest review Chris, I've heard another person say the threads on their transparent 630 feel mushy so it makes me think this has something to do with the transparent material. I wonder if the clear resin isn't as rigid as the solid colored ones. I have two solid and their threads are solid and wonderful pens. I may stick to the solid models going forward till I hear they may have fixed this.

As I say in video, using a different mold for translucent barrels or mold threads have worn.

Hello! Jinhao x159 and wingsung 630 nib are interchangeable?

@@chrisrap52 I heard a lot of good reviews about the wing sung 630 nib, so before I buy it (only nib) and install it on my existing Jinhao x159, I would like to know for sure whether it is suitable or not. You could, of course, buy the entire wing sung 630 pen, but firstly, not for all countries, $30 is not a lot of money, and secondly, not everyone needs a lot of pens for reviews on UA-cam😂😂😂sorry for my English.

Interesting, Chris, that both of your 630s continue to give you different problems, despite your mastery of usual pen first aid techniques. Bad threads, bad feed, bad nib? Yet you seem to like the pen, especially its brass components. Thanks for your honesty. I don't plan to buy this pen.

It is an interesting pen with lots of potential. I'll see if replacing the nib helps the red one.
