Jaffa (also known as Yafo, Yafa, Joppa ) is the ancient port city out of
which Tel Aviv has now grown. In recent years, like much of South Tel Aviv, this area has been regenerated. The old narrow streets and courtyards are now another highly desirable part of Tel Aviv’s urban tapestry.
Jaffa’s flea market is a well-known attraction of the area. Here, the vendors sell a diverse range of interesting and unique products from Turkish carpets to original art. Meanwhile, the narrow passageways and ancient buildings in the Old City are worlds away from modern Tel Aviv.
HISTORY OF JAFFA
Jaffa (Yafo)
The history of Jaffa is a long one. As of the world’s oldest ports, this is thought to have been the port from which Jonah left in the story of the Whale! The port continued to be important through history and served as the main entry point to the land of Israel through until the late 19th century when Jews from around the world began to return to Israel. It was through Jaffa that they entered the country and this is where many initially settled. The huge population increase led to overcrowding, and tense relations developed between the Jewish and Arab residents of the city. The result was that Jews began building outside of Jaffa, firstly neighborhoods such as Neve Tzedek, and later the city of Tel Aviv.
As Tel Aviv developed, Jaffa decayed. By the 1940’s Tel Aviv was so much larger than Jaffa that it was designated a neighborhood of Tel Aviv. The mostly Arab population was still very much a part of the city. The city now holds the official title of the city of Tel Aviv-Yafo. The decay continued until the municipality created a Development Organization to oversee the restoration of this are, which continues today. In late 2011, a new Old Jaffa Visitors Center opened to the public. It features multimedia displays depicting this area through the ages, as well as self-guided walking tours of the city as it is today.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered licensed tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water, and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many-faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be implanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
Peace and blessings Zahi. Fantastic tour with so much knowledge and information. Thank you.
Shalom great report vidéo jaffa
I haven’t been to Jaffa since 1993, 28 years ago. Back then Jaffa was mostly the old part of the city. It was filled with Arabs that clearly hated Jews. The local Arabs gave us only evil eyes. The Arabs starred at us looking at us with bad intent. Now Jaffa looks very much more built up for the better. I’m happy to see Jaffa looks like a much better place then back in the day. I want to go back and revisit Jaffa and Israel. 😆🇺🇸🇮🇱
So interesting & beautiful. I watched it twice and enjoyed every story. So glad you teach as you guide us. It's like I'm walking beside you. Thanks 😌

Zahi Shaked
was Joppa the main Sea Port, of King Solomon?
Solomon (1,000 B.C.)
Zahi the pictures are good, they work, and the map.
We did not know Napoleon invaded Joppa in 1799 A.D.
But it makes sense, we usually think of
Napoleon invading Germany, and Russia,
the Gentile countries.
Zahi the Zodiac is for Stargazers and Monthly Prognosticators (Isaiah 47:13, warned about), while I myself do study the stars, like Abraham,
I do not worship the stars.
Yes it was
Napoleon wished to concord the world. At that time you couldn't do it without Israel, because of the location of the country
That I would agree with,
Actually the time of Napoleon, was not that long ago, about 1800 A.D. that was after George Washington and the
United States as a country, so just a little later than the U.S. Constitution.
Napoleon was French, he never attacked the U.S. Colonies, which was a good thing, because he would have easily conquered our small county,
in 1805 A.D.
They don't really teach us much about
Napoleon in school, because those were European wars.
You are an inspiration to many, in the United States. I got up at 6am and saw your premier tour. Thank you for working every time.
Gorgeous. Thank you for posting
Well, once again I made it though the whole thing. Looking forward to next time.
all th tel aviv promenade is new since my summr 68 visit
