James Taylor has ties in the south also, he has written several songs about the state of North Carolina, perhaps he was born there? There is a bridge named after him in the town of Chapel Hill.
@@chrisoakley5830 HIs Mom was from Massachusetts & his Dad was from North Carolina. James was born in Boston, but his physician father accepted a position at the Univ of Carolina medical school and moved the family down to Chapel Hill. His Dad later became the Dean of the medical school. James & his siblings spent the school yr in NC and their summers in Martha's Vineyard in MA.
@@lla788 Thank you very much for this information, as I said, I knew there was a connection to the Chapel Hill, NC area but I didn't know the exact details. I live in NC about 30 minutes from Chapel Hill, so his songs about our state are very enjoyable to me.
@@chrisoakley5830 Did u ever see the Chapel Hill house? It was up for auction about 6 yrs ago and they were giving tours of it. I believe they were calling in the James Taylor house - even though his family moved back to MA years ago. I think JT may have gone down to see it again- not sure. It was a very cool looking house.
Thanks guys! The world needs to hear this more than ever. JT’s music should never be forgotten ✨he often did his own background vocals and was married to Carly Simon
I was fortunate enough to get to know James a little and I can tell you he is a genuine person soft spoken and cares about others , his fans are very important to him because he didn't forget were he started and who put him where he is. After the last concert I ran in to him after the show he sat on stage for hrs to make sure he signed all the fans shirts and other things, the stage was torn down and the security people and crew knew he wasn't going to leave till the fans were all gone.
This reminds me of driving on the family vacation in the 70’s. Our station wagon all loaded up and my sister and I sitting in the back listening to these type songs on the radio! Priceless! ❤️🔥🎶
Asia & BJ, You’ll love his “You’ve Got A Friend”(cover), “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)”, “Your Smiling Face” and many more!!! He’s one of the great singer/songwriters and guitarists!!
The James Taylor that you are referring to is JT Taylor who was the lead singer of Kool and the Gang on many of their biggest hits. This James Taylor has been a huge star since around 1971. He is one of the best songwriters of our time, and he tours almost all the time, even now at 75. The background singers on this song were Carly Simon (whom he was married to) and James Taylor.
Nothing makes me more nostalgic than hearing a James Taylor song. Somehow, his voice and his songs were always 'right there' at times that were so important and formative for me in my 20s. 50 some years later, he takes me back...
I got to see JT and Jackson Browne in concert last year. So glad I did as they both are treasures. Back in the 70s I win this album by calling in to a radio station contest. I wore the album out.
The man's voice is like butter, crisp clean and you can always understand every word he sings. He is an incredible writer also, a master with the lyrics.
I had the pleasure of seeing this performed live in Seattle about five years ago. Absolutely gorgeous. Tell ‘em how you feel while they are alive to appreciate it.
Thank you so much for posting this. For saying these things that need saying. We need to tell the people we love that we love them. We are all one family, all brothers and sisters. Let’s feel the joy in that.
If you have a broken heart don't run away and hide and be by yourself. Shower the people you love with love show them the way that you feel. Don't run and hide let the people you love help you
A James Taylor song that I believe u will really like is "Don't Let Me be Lonely Tonight" It was a big hit, & has a great sax solo by David Sanborn. It's not folk rock, it has more of jazz twist. James Taylor wrote all kinds of songs
You need to see the live version this song that he did at President Obama's first inauguration concert in 2008, with John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Arnold McCuller. Always brings tears of joy to my eyes & makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck!
This song and "Gone to Carolina in my mind" are 2 of my favorite James Taylor songs 🎵 Just saw him in concert about 5 years ago, He still sounds good live !
To me, James Taylor is “the 1970s”, an absolute legend!! He is definitely one of my very favorites from my teenage years. Still a huge fan after all these years!
A superstar of folk rock. A legend of legends with dozens of unforgettable tunes including You’ve Got a Friend which was written by his lifelong friend, Carole King. His tune Mexico is incredible and Suite z for 20G!
It’s a great song. Been following you guys for years. Always line and comment if I have something worthy to say. Love you guys. I’m disabled now. My husband had a heart attack last year and then a toe amputation (a Purple Heart veteran). My 87 year old mom has had an auto accident and two falls. I’m caretaker for both. We have mold in our house we’ve been living with for a year and we think the Legion people will be able to help us soon. I’m not saying this for pity or anything. Just that you’re highlighting people who donate and we can’t. Doesn’t mean we don’t love the reactions, love the music. And I know you have to make a living - why I’m subscribed and always like the videos I see. Just know there’s people out here here who adore you but can’t contribute. ❤
Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight is a really great song that you might want to check out, by JT. Since I have a forever 32- year old son, I am constantly reminding my 18 y/o grandson, (and other sons, also, of course), about making sure not to have any missed opportunities. Also, I ALWAYS say I love you, last words before hanging up or parting, since i distinctly remember that it was the last thing i said to my son. JT and Carly were married many many years ago and I don't believe it was for very long. They did do a song Mockingbird together that is on YT.
Thanks so much for this guys, it's such a lovely song which resonates strongly with me. There's also a lovely version of this song by The Dixie Chicks which they sang to James on one of his special tribute nights and he loved it and so did they too. What an amazing songbook JT has made for all of us to enjoy. God bless him.
Love James Taylor. He did a cover version of Sam Cook's "Wonderful World" (lyrics: Don't know much about history ... don't know much biology ... etc.) together with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle which is just wonderful. I think it's on an album by Garfunkle. Anyway, you ought to give a listen to that one -- it's great!
On his live performances he tried something that no one has ever tried, he has the back up singers on a reel to reel tape recorder, and it was edited to the point that when they are not needed the recorder/player shuts off, either by remote control or unplugging it, and when they are needed it turns on again, it was very precise timing. I've never seen anyone else do that.
Great song !! Great reaction guys... You guys should react to "Love will Follow" Kenny Loggins & Shanice, Live from the Redwoods !!! I think you'll love it...
If you want to hear a rendition of this song that will blow your mind, check out the live performance at the Beacon Theater where he lets Arnold absolutely steal the show with a solo. Breathtaking!
You should listen to the live version of this. In fact the live versions of all his music. It just takes you to a great place. Listen to "Shed a Little Light." Live
Love James Taylor. What a great singer songwriter. His style is more folk rock. I grew up with his music & had some of his records. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Some of his hits are "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "You've Got A Friend", "Handy Man", "Sweet Baby James", "Carolina in My Mind", "Your Smiling Face" etc. He was married at one time to Carly Simon. They had a few duets together including "Mockingbird" & "Devoted To You".
Yep, and that’s just scratching the surface!! So many great songs by James Taylor. I love “Don’t Be Sad ‘Cause Your Sun is Down”, “Captain Jim’s Drunken Dream”, “Nothing Like A Hundred Miles”, “Another Grey Morning”, “Bartender’s Blues”, “Terra Nova”, “Mexico”, “Something in the Way She Moves”, “Honey, Don’t Leave L.A.”, “Handy Man”, Secret ‘O Life”, “Traffic Jam”, “Sweet Baby James”, “You’ve Got A Friend”, “You Can Close Your Eyes”, “Fire and Rain”, “Carolina in My Mind”, “Country Road”, “ Copperline”, “Sunny Skies”, “Blossom”, “Anywhere Like Heaven”, just to name a few!! 😊
Like a lot of James Taylor songs. Most if not all of his songs are straightforward. His Nephew is named James. Brother Alex named him after his Brother. So cool!
love your reviews. may i suggest you do "Paul Simon - Under African Skies (from The Concert in Hyde Park)" this concert is full of great songs " Obivous child ". Graceland Just these songs are worthy of a listen obivous child will engulf you with happiness
A timeless message that will keep this song forever relevant. By the way, yes, that's his (then) wife, fellow music legend Carly Simon on BGV's. They collaborated a lot on each other's work throughout the 70's.
I have loved JT since I was a wee lass. But true story about this song: I thought he was singing “Showerdy People” - and as a kid who was still into bubble baths , I thought he meant that there were Bathy People (like me) and Showerdy People (like the adults I knew). I think I was in middle school when I figured out it was Shower THE People…. So silly!!
Wouldn’t it be such a better World!🥳😊 o that’s the James Taylor from way back, he’s white and I know his voice ❤ and yes he was married to Carly Simon😊

I just love James Taylor, he sings from his heart, all his lyrics are so relatable (I also had a huge crush on him,Lol). Thanks Asia and BJ
James Taylor has such a nice voice
Never get weary of James Taylor’s golden voice ❤

James Taylor is definitely a talented artist, so many great classic songs
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Young JT's voice is, so uniquely innocent and American.
The man's voice is like butter, crisp clean and you can always understand every word he sings.
He is an incredible writer also, a master with the lyrics.

Esp. when he hits the high note! My oldest sister had this album.
