Meemaw asked them to do this for Mary, but then Pastor Jeff made it about George, who obviously wouldn't have cared, would have loved and supported them either way like Georgie said. Also, from another point of view, this is emotional blackmail.
The New Spin-Off Show About Georgie and Mandy will continue as “Young Sheldon” but will transition to a New Show Title which is rumored to be “Georgie’s and Mandy’s First Marriage”.
This was my favorite scene in the whole endgame of the show. Annie Potts of course is a total pro. The young actors know their characters. But they live and respect the grandmother so much they will do anything she asks, especially when it is from her heart.
Mary is Baptist not catholic. Baptist's don't do baby baptisms. Instead is pretty popular to do a baby decaudation. Which is the parents promising to raise the children in a Christian home showing and teaching the Christian faith. My church does it once a year and every new baby gets brought up to the front to be shown and introduced to the church body. The church also promises to help the parents with their promise as well as promise to provide love and support to the family. They are actually really sweet Sundays. Then later in life if the child professes faith, then they get baptized.
Babies don’t get baptized, they get Christened. Baptism is when the person being baptized promises to live their life as a Christian and serve God. Obviously, a baby can’t make this choice.
Got it. Mary is Baptist. Georgie’s in-laws are catholic. Didn’t Mary take Georgie’s baby to get baptized by Pastor Jeff? I thought she would do the same to Sheldon and Missy.
I gotta say it. Young Sheldon was hands down better than TBBT. The writing was better and the character arc for Sheldon was more believable. After seven seasons of YS I can’t see how older Sheldon was “that” person. The writers and actors took the source material and made it better.
Baptism will not help anything. Mee Maw should have helped Mary understand that instead of guilting them to go through with it. Sheldon was a class act about it. Missy backed out at the last minute, By trying to force this on her kids, Mary only made things worse.
Sometimes its hard to make rational decisions when your life seems to be falling apart in front of your eyes. Greif allows more forgiveness than usual.
That's not the point. Mary was falling apart, and religion was the only thing that was probably keeping her from going full-blown crazy (even more than usual). It's not too much to ask the kids to endure a religious ceremony for the sake of their grieving mother. It's not about the kids, it's about Mary and bringing her some kind of comfort.
Missy's disdain for the church is well earned. Their treatment of Mary and her family when Georgie got Mandy pregnant was cruel. She was angry with her Mom for wanting back into that same church after everything they'd endured.
@@philiptom2799 That was then and this is now. Pastor Jeff was an a** about the whole thing sure, but he redeemed himself somewhat in the final season. When the tornado destroyed Connie's house, he helped her by offering with repairs. Not only that but he decided not to snitch on her for the gambling room because he felt like she suffered enough because of said tornado. I think that warrants some amount of forgiveness. And again, this isn't about what the kids need. Their mother is falling apart and need her children to support her now more than ever. I myself am not a fan of the church. But for the sake of my loved ones, I'd grit my teeth and endure a baptism if only to bring them peace of mind.
@cj2130 I didn't say Jeff was completely redeemed. I said he earned some points for forgiveness. Him not ratting out Connie after the tornado and offering to grab her stuff, shows he has a heart deep down. If he really wanted to continue his self-righteous attitude, he still would have snitched despite the tragedy, but he didn't. As for the secret baptism, Jeff initially was hesitant to do it, but Mary convinced him. And you contradict yourself by saying that the kids shouldn't be caring for their mother, but also saying that they need to support each other as a grieving family. Caring for each other means the kids need to help their mother as much as she needs to help them. And right now, the kids need to swallow their pride and do the baptism for her sake. If nothing else, it will give Mary peace of mind and calm down. Them refusing is only causing more turbulation for everyone involved. They are ignoring their mothers' pain and only thinking about themselves.

Going to miss this show, the cast did a wonderful job as always. However, the whole baptism issue was not, Baptism does not save anyone, under these circumstances no pastor should do it. Hollywood and their views on Christianity, too much to unpack here.
I really grew to dislike Mary Cooper in this particular episode. She went from being a religious fanatic to being a full on crusader. Not to mention being completely insufferable.
When the day came for them to get baptized, missy broke mermaid request and never got baptized. And that’s why missy lived her whole life as a dumb angry teenager who just hates everything and everyone because of her fathers death
This was such a poorly done finale. Too much of the story was wrapped around this ridiculous b-plot of the baptism, which could have EASILY been in any other episode over the past 7 years. They wasted the chance to make a solid finale, and this will be forgotten and ignored.
I agree the baptism was too much of the story. Having grown up Baptist this conversation didn’t happen when you’re 14. You’ve had it many, many times before. I think the story should have been Mary asking Sheldon to stay in Texas. That’s way more believable after a tragic death like this. Mary would want Sheldon “safe” with her.
"But I'm watching my daughter fall apart right now."
Powerful and heartbreaking.
And unintentionally manipulative, asking her young grandkids to betray themselves to alleviate her discomfort. Yes, the situation was tragic, but it’s important to ask what kind of message was that sending to those kids?

Mary is a Baptist, they believe baptism is an individual choice. Babies are incapable of choosing to be baptized.
Got it. Mary is Baptist. Georgie’s in-laws are catholic. Didn’t Mary take Georgie’s baby to get baptized by Pastor Jeff? I thought she would do the same to Sheldon and Missy.
Common Mary L
“I’m asking for 20 minutes of your time “😂😂😂😂😂😂
That’s an odd joke you are laughing at by yourself. Want to share it with the whole class?
I gotta say it. Young Sheldon was hands down better than TBBT. The writing was better and the character arc for Sheldon was more believable. After seven seasons of YS I can’t see how older Sheldon was “that” person. The writers and actors took the source material and made it better.
I love Memaw. She is awesome. Zoe Perry is a wonderful actor!!
But, I HATE Mary Cooper!!
I would never, ever get baptized for anyone for any reason.
well that is your choice
@@bernainmolina7481 You clearly have a unique and remarkable grasp of the obvious. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! I have a whole new perspective now.
And you dont have to be so rude . Does it make you feel good to be rude to someone who obviously wasnt being rude to you people like you are what is wrong with mankind .Shame on you

That’s what you think, but if this was your situation you would reconsider. You ain’t that special for being “different” when it comes to an emotional situation.
I hated how missy backed out of this at the last minute
Daughter falling apart because she's not getting what she wants it's narcissistic
Going to miss this show, the cast did a wonderful job as always. However, the whole baptism issue was not, Baptism does not save anyone, under these circumstances no pastor should do it. Hollywood and their views on Christianity, too much to unpack here.

.... death is something we will all experience, but to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Young Sheldon is finished
I really grew to dislike Mary Cooper in this particular episode. She went from being a religious fanatic to being a full on crusader. Not to mention being completely insufferable.
I mean I care for my mom but you’re lying to God by being forcibly baptized.
Sheldon sucks, sheesh.
When the day came for them to get baptized, missy broke mermaid request and never got baptized. And that’s why missy lived her whole life as a dumb angry teenager who just hates everything and everyone because of her fathers death
These comments are inane.
The guy that plays Sheldon got worse as he aged. He over acts and is way to stiff
Its impossible to not notice young Sheldon's voice is deeper than old Sheldon's.
sweet
Wow, Sheldon has no fear of death sounds like he has no feelings either death doesn't spare him
