    I am lucky enough to own this bag. I LOVE it. It is well put together, still in perfect condition. This bag even goes camping with me. 😊 Thanks Alex!

    I was told ironing the fabric, will make for a much neater result. I believe it. In many ways the neater you do things the better results.

    Thank you for this. I have wondered how to line and tried to figure it out on my own several times.

    I stumbled on this method of lining several years ago when making some small purses. I didn't like the loose fabric or the time it takes on the "traditional" lining method. I I used the "cut net" to the edges and skived a leather strip from the same leather as the purse to finish the edge. The results are fabulous! Get lots of compliments on the finished appearance of the interior.
    Thanks for sharing, as I never thought about making a video on my process. Great job describing the detail. Looks soooo good!

      The first time I made this bag it was completely hand sewn. It took a week! After that I decided it was time to buy my machine. It can definitely be done without one but it’s a lot of work. Very happy you liked my video!

      I tried to line a dopp bag with the glue and the fabric didn't stick really. I was using Horween Derby veg tanned leather. I ended up using Renia contact cement just on the leather which worked

    Great video! Just finished a bag without lining and was waiting for Makers to come out with a lining video. I am going to modify the pattern to make a set of 3 bags in larger sizes and hope to use this lining process. Thanks.

    The fabric won't fray on the edges if you cut it with pinking shears. :)

    I wonder if this size of bag could be made in the dopp kit style? It has the boxy shape and then the lining would be even nicer.

    Nice job, thank you very much for sharing. I'm working on a handbag project, the leather is very soft, I'll try to add a liner to give it a little bit more structure.

      I have finished a duffel bag from a different pattern but I put a liner in it and it gave it a little more structure .

    • @Handles-R-Lame

      You can also use this stuff called Salpa Leather Board(more stiff/sizes vary between 8mm-1.2mm)or Salamander Leather Interliner(less stiff/sizes usually under .5mm).
      Both products work great to add strength and structure to supple and medium hand leathers. Its also a professional choice of material as many high end bag makers often use it. Just a thought.
      Of course you could always back it with some thin veg tan, if your wanting the 100% leather kind of product, as the other are still made of genuine leather albeit shredded and compressed into shape but still leather nonetheless.
      Think of it as a leather chicken nugget or hot dog lol still meat(i hope jk) it was just processed a lil bit. Just my 2 cents anyways. Cheers!

      Looks like a class 26 in the background, not sure if that’s what he used for the bag. But it would handle it very well

  • @telekaster4212
    @telekaster4212 3 роки тому

    Very neat work! The only problem I see with fabric lining is that the strength of any system is determined by the weakest area. And therefore, due to the fabric lining, the bag will wear out much faster than without it at all. Of course, there are some fabrics of very high quality that do not lag behind, and sometimes even surpass the leather in terms of wear resistance, but they are usually very expensive and it is quite difficult to determine its wear resistance, unless you had experience with it before. Therefore, when using a fabric lining in a bag, it is often attached only to the top of the bag in order to be able to turn the fabric out and at least clean it. Or replace it. Although your variant looks a lot nicer, I personally would prefer a bag with an unsticked lining.

    • @OnPointLeatherworks
      @OnPointLeatherworks  3 роки тому +1

      That’s very true, most bags do have an unstuck lining. I’ve never made one like that so I’m not exactly sure of the process to do it, but I’m sure it’s not too difficult to figure out. I’m not personally a fan of the loose lining look, as you could probably tell from the video lol. I’m sure a lot of people feel differently though. As do wear, you’re right that a fabric lining will wear out faster than the leather, my hope is that when these are used, the owner takes care of them and just puts normal travel items into the bags. Storing clothes and what not shouldn’t put a ton of strain on the lining, but sometimes things happen. I appreciate the comment!

      On last duffle bag project I made a loose lining but I made it so that it zips in so that it can be taken out to be washed or replaced.

    You might find it better control over your stitching to get straighter lines if you use your left foot for sewing. A trick my seamstress wife taught me.

    Thanks for the video. Have the pattern but not had a chance to make it. A question. If I bind the inside, I don't have to fold the edges of the lining fabric. I can just trim the fabric down to the edge of the leather pieces since you won't see the raw edges of the fabric

    • @OnPointLeatherworks
      @OnPointLeatherworks  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! I’m happy you enjoyed the video. That’s correct, if you decided to bind the inside, there’s really no need to go through the step of folding the fabric. I only did the two steps so each method could be seen
