Before my kids were born I knew I wanted kids, and my main goals were to give them love so they wouldn't seek happiness or escape in people or alcohol and drugs and to live a comfortable life they would work enough to be content. I was honest with them about my traumas and I apologized to them about my shortcomings. I am grateful that they have come to me in their time of need. Being a young mother at 17 years old I was young enough to remember what I didn't like about my childhood and try my best to give my kids a better life. And even though at times I felt like a failure I gave my wholehearted best and I am at peace with myself.

I come from a similar background, and made the same decision....that I was going to do better. No matter our background, all parents will make mistakes. To have the courage and strength to apologize is what's important. That apology itself is an important life lesson! Gives the child the permission to own up and speak their mistakes. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom!

Massive human overpopulation and the resultant waves of diaspora ensuing have fractured and disrupted healthy multigenerational parenting practices. How many potential parents today are truly considering what's best for a future child, as opposed to their own selfish neediness? We are living in a time of climate collapse and social disruption/unrest. Is this really the time to bring another innocent life into being? Thank you, both (all), for these lovely well-meaning beautifully produced videos, but are we really considering what's best for an unborn child? My parents certainly were not. They both lost a parent at 10 yo and were relegated to the care of grandparents while the surviving parent remarried and had a second family. Thus, they were partially (?) abandoned and passed on that abandoned compensation to me, and I to my own children, without ever realizing at the time. It is one of life's tragedies that we come to understand the wounds of our own childhoods and our parents' only later in life. Perhaps your work is improving on that score? I hope and pray so.
