    This is a New Series, where I go over my own thoughts, and community opinions, to try and put together some ideas for future Total War Titles.
    Future Examples of this Series could be Medieval 3, Warhammer 3, Shogun 3, Empire 2, Lord of the Rings Total War? : )

      @@theempiredidnothingwrong3227 that sounds interesting but more likely as an expansion for 3 kingdoms. If they even attempt on making a massive world expanding across 3 continents then we'll be facing another buggy, under developed and not finished game. Not to mention the lack of cultural, unit, general diversity. Honestly atm I'm just negative all round towards ca so maybe I'm wrong. Just seems like they've turned into a corporation soly focused on released cheaply produced games at the highest cost to make the most profit, not to mention a million dlcs to "improve" the game. :(

      athomicritics nope, Saga games are for very small areas with events that did not affect the world of the region very much. Alexander’s conquest spread to the borders of modern day India, and he spread Hellenistic culture not only across the Mediterranean, but across most of Asia Minor as well.

      "did not affect the world of the region very much."
      the fall of the samurais had a gigantic butterfly effect on the future

    • @iterationfackshet1990
      @iterationfackshet1990 4 роки тому

      athomicritics you are thinking of another war, the Boshin war did not have that much of an affect on the world at large nor imperial japan as we know them during WW2. If the samurai had never fell, they most likely would’ve still been kept as an actual job, just without the benefits that they previously held. They probably would’ve been highly trained battlefield commanders used as a showpiece sort’ve like the polish hussars, but the samurai opened a new school of artillery between the Boshin war and the satsuma rebellion, so they could actually be effective on the modern battlefield unlike Calvary which was quickly dying by the time of the polish hussars. Alexander had a lasting impact on the cultures of the regions he conquered, to military tactics, weapons and armor, and basically what any military commander wanted to be. Caesar is the name emperors named themselves upon their coronation, and he is often who we think of when we think of a tyrant or dictator, but Alexander is who we think of when it comes to a conqueror. The phalanx was revolutionized by Alexander, and became the basis for many military formations, such as the pike and shot or shield walls. You can still see examples of Greek architecture across the lands Alexander conquered, and for centuries after his death the Greek style of armor was used across the Mediterranean. Hannibal, probably the only military commander to successfully use Alexander’s phalanx by realizing the main disadvantage of the phalanx was its flanks weren’t protected, and just like Alexander he protected it with javelin throwers. If Alexander wasn’t a great military leader on par if not better than Attila and Napoleon then why is his tactics still taught in military academies today? Saying he didn’t have as much of an impact as the boshin war is not only ignorant, it’s completely false.

    I actually read the title and thought “no way, an Alexander campaign would be too linear.” But you’ve convinced me, particularly with expanding the campaign map into India - that would be so interesting. I don't think unit variety would be that big of an issue especially if the regional recruitment system that you suggested is implemented (I will use the Macedonian army as an example since i am more familiar with it but considering the size of the Persian Empire I would be surprised if they also did not posses a large variety of units). Macedonian Armies while phalanx based were still reliant on wide variety of auxiliary troops (e.g. agrarian peltast, Paenonian Cavalry cretan archers etc) and as Alexander moved east he would phase out some of his Hellenic troops with local auxiliaries. The use of special units would be possible as well historically accurate (The Pharsalian Squadron (Thessalian Cavalry) and Royal Squadron (Companion Cavalry) spring to mind). Total variety may actually be a bad thing if taken to far as it would take away from each factions unique flair and streamline battle strategy in multiplayer. As a side note, the old total war system where you did not need a general in the army and there was no army cap needs to make a return. Its more realistic and adds some logistical complexity to the game. Furthermore, it would make the regional recruitment system much more important if it was implemented and feasibly enforce an unconventional army upon the player if they were desperate for troops.

    In my opinion the best way it could play out if you play as the Argeads is you begin the campaign as Philip on the map of Troy total war, then if he dies you play as Alexander on the same campaign map as rome total war Alexander (overhauled, of course) and if he dies, you play as one of the diadochi on the full map of the known world at the time (hellenistic world, mediterranean, persia and india (2:58)).

    From what I've read about Alexanders campaign, there were far more than just Macedonian Phalanx and Companion Calvary used in his battles. Many Mercenary units made up the rest of his army. He definitely had lite/medium infantry units, along with Mercenary missile units, which was done decently and even encouraged in Rome:Alexander. But could be expanded upon in a new game. Certain areas may yield more effective units. As for the campaign in general, starting as Phillip II would be amazing, and letting us take India and further on would be a dream. Answering the question, what if Alexander didnt stop :p

    The best way to make a hypothetical Alexander 2 have a good unit variety is to just go full historical. The various Persian satraps would have been fighting in their own preferred style with a core of Iranian soldiers. The west coast of Anatolia would be fighting classical style phalanxes supplemented by the various indigenous peoples like the karians who fought as skirmishers. As the player goes eastwards they fight the mountainous hillmen of cappadochia, the old fashioned Assyrian and Babylonian style armies, "bronze age Egypt", the mountains peoples of the caucuses, and finally the Persian heartlands proper with the creme of Iran's finest chariots, archer-spearmen, and the immortals. Persia would need to be represented as the actual persian empire not as the bad guys from 300 with terrible morale, equipment, fighting styles, and "bad archers". Alexander's army needs to be the "Pan-Hellenic" crusade he was talking about with pikemen of various seniority making up the unit roster and when a unit of pikemen reach a certain level of experience they can be upgraded to bronze-shield pikemen and finally the silver-shields. A few "what if" units to flesh out the roster could also be added to give diversity while retaining historical plausibility. The Iphricatean style of phalanx would be a good way to give Macedon a good line infantry that could also give chase, throw javelins, guard the flanks, and lead an assault they should not be good at everything but able to preform those roles in a pinch.

      This is the future of total war if they listen to the people, we want to fight first person in a massive battle. The thing is.. it will be unrealistic if you think you are going to be Achilles and kill everyone and not die yourself. There has to be a mix of kingdom come, mount and blade and total war. There must be realism in the fight animations like kingdom come, but yet there must NOT be freedom to roam around while your unit is in formation. There must messenger cavalry units to carry orders throughout the army which takes time. Little things like this. There must be freedom to engage in castle walls archery, lead cavalry charge in formation, be the 3rd or 5th man In the Macedonian phalanx. These little freedoms as first person, yet be able to view from a third person and even eagle eye view. Multiple animations, multiple ways to fight and die and not feel immortal.

    It would be very cool and add replay value if you play as Macedonia and then change to one of the diadochi (Egypt, Macedonia, Epirus, Pontus, Babylon, Bactria etc...).

    • @Stray___
      @Stray___ 4 роки тому

      Or maybe you could control one of the diadochi from the begging and accompany Alexander in his battles microing a wing or type of soldier of his AI controlled army, and then becoming autonomous.

    Would be a great expansion/DLC for Rime 2. But I think they are done with the game. Rome 3 production is what they ll do next as far as the time period

    • @dutch0770
      @dutch0770 4 роки тому

      They can go back further. But these saga games fall on their faces. I would argue not one of them are worth the money or time

    • @dutch0770
      @dutch0770 4 роки тому

      The amount of content in them so so minimal. I personally think it’s been a downhill slide since the release of Rome 2. I love Rome 2...but at the start it was so bad. And even today it lacks units, events, political systems that are unique. Rome 2 was a good start imo. But now they are pumping these games out and they are boring, no real replay ability, mainstreamed, or good lord the “hero” general battles.... these games to me are failing on their faces. They could up graphics, interaction/units in battle, politics, and the most important this...unit variety/unique units. One of the biggest problem is...a faction like Rome gets a great roster while the other factions have 10 units all game. And I believe Rome should have even more units to choose from. The hero/general battles should flat out be chucked out

    • @dutch0770
      @dutch0770 4 роки тому

      Not really. I’m looking at Rome 1 with the different things that happen across the map, Attila where’d there are multiple different thing and events happening. Expand on that. And definitely increase all rosters; new units along with a variety. As far as politics...just expand and make them different. Not mainstreamed. Give each faction things that historically made sense. And in Rome we had a great animation when a cav unit/elephant unit crashed into another... things like that should have been in Rome 2.

    • @dutch0770
      @dutch0770 4 роки тому

      Also the Attila’s raze animations.

    Damn they should just bring out a general Medieval 3 with new features and new graphics but so that it feels like a worthy successor. Stop limiting the armies as they only exist of 2000 soldiers max anyway and instead give me the opportunity to raise my 300k army as it’s been until Rome 2. I think you should bring those ‚adventures‘ in separate campaigns included in the main game.

    • @Marco-bk8yw
      @Marco-bk8yw 4 роки тому

      Also give us more opportunities to manage cities to get a little simulation touch. I’m still missing the feature of walking into cities as in Mount and Blade and being greeted by your peasants. Would love to be able to take a walk around my palace to have a feeling of how mighty I am or my faction is.

    • @anonymussicarius8899
      @anonymussicarius8899 4 роки тому

      @@MelkorGG True, true. But it doesen´t change the fact that it would be a greedy move. Because in the simplest design for the Philipp campaign, they would only need to do a bigger campaignmap of greece, reskin most of the units (a hoplite from Argos, isn´t so different from a hoplite from Thebes, from Phokis, so this would just boil down to optical variations which they, if following your suggestion concerning "special" regional units, would have already made anyway [btw good idea]), only the macedonian early roster would need to be created. But all other armies could be the same since the military didn´t evolved between Philipp and the rise of Alexander. So IF they would go for the simplest design (like they did with Napolen) it would be highwayrobbery to sell this as a DLC. However, IF they would be doing something "crazy" and complex with that era (like the Rome 2 Republic, Peloponnesian War, Aurelian; Attila Charlemagne, Iustinian Era DLC´s), then a DLC would be resonable. But as I said, I can´t see contendwise what should justify a Philipp campaign as an Alexander DLC.

      @anonymussicarius8899 4 роки тому

      @@MelkorGG After watching your latest vid about the DLC´s I have to correct myself, CA would totally go for a DLC Philipp Campaign. I didn´t knew that the Peninsula Campaign in Napoleon was a DLC (bought the Definitive Edition some years after the release and didn´t payed to much attention to the DLC´s because I was assuming they were all just unit packs).

    how is that different from Rome 2 ? or DEI mod, if you want more "basically the same, but with slightly different stats" units? This game has so much overlap with Rome 2, that you could just extend that map to India, push the start date back a bit to included Philip II, and add a bunch of new units - and there you have it..
    instead of spending resource on a dead horse like that, CA should work on the untouched eras like the "pike and shot" era, the bronze age, or the history of China/India/Mesoamerica/... or give us more fantasy title like LoTR, WoW, or Skyrim.. anything but a remake of a recent game..
