This is excellent. Best overview of clays in soils I've yet heard. Mineralogy vs particle size, particle shape, different clays' effect on CEC, etc.

Thank you Dr. Laird for great explanations! And yes, every time I listen podcasts from Diego I am just wondering how great he is at interviewing and also picking guests and topics. Fantastic! Thank you Diego !

Great episode, hope you get more people like Dr. Laird who not only know their stuff but have the ability and patience to explain it to us

Really fascinating discussion. I learned a lot. The difference of types of clays from northern areas down to the tropical rainforests. I'm unsure of why time has this effect though, is it tectonic movement? Glaciers churned the soil from Canada down, but not all the way to the equator?
Thanks to Dr. Laird for sharing your insight and to Diego for asking quality questions -- helps watching other interviews because the knowledge level continues to build.

I enjoyed this immensely, thank you. Diego is not only a good interviewer, he also knows enough about the subject to ask excellent questions.

Thank you for posting. I just moved to San Antonio (dense clay) from Miami (Sandy) so this video was perfect. Working on cover crops in my beds right now (along with Daikon). Hopefully with the crop residue and a little compost I’ll be able to have a good spring planting season.

This is one of the more interesting interviews I've heard in awhile. Great teacher, and as always insightful and practical questions from Diego. Still going to really have to decide if I want to watch these interviews moving forward, because an ad literally every 8 minutes is supremely irritating.

UA-cam Premium is worth it. No ads and I listen to shows like this with the screen off

I think the ads are a small price to pay for Diegos efforts to get this knowledge out.

This one was great. Tough for me to keep up with, might need to go back to school lol, but great scientific info. Love it!

soil organic matter/humus fluffing up parachute clay particles that help prevent the humus from decomposition, my family is in for a surprise for tonight's dinner conversation.

So the smectite clay layers are like bread layers then the plant nutrients are the peanut butter and jelly particles in between. With a name like Smectite, it's got to be good!
