And the imperials I’m 22 and have been a fan of EP for about my whole life 😂 I still have tapes of some of his concerts somewhere from when I was little. He’s the greatest thing to ever happen to music cause it open doors for people to sing that didn’t have a voice RIP EP.💯

Elvis was also known for giving away his jewelry. Those rings on his fingers for example at the time were worth $30,000 - $50,000 each. On occasions he would give those to fans at his shows.

Great reaction gentlemen! Elvis is definitely his own genre 😂 He sings so many genres and often they're mixed together in a single song. Lot of rock in his blues, a lot of blues in his country, a lot of country in his pop, a lot of pop in his gospel and a lot of gospel in his everything. He's hard to pin down to any one genre, honestly, so yeah, he's his own for sure. Your insights are always great, really enjoy your reactions!

      .
I don't get why that matters (if he wrote anything), he could sing anything and when he did covers the original artist got a boost from it so all gained from it
A few songs where written for him though, like If I can dream, the one where he makes a tribute to Martin Luther King JR and Bobby Kennedy who got killed a few months earlier.
No one needs to tell us if it was like that, but listen, or read the words, many of them are from MLK:S I have a dream speach, that is why Elvis loved it...

Yeah this is yet another genre merge for Elvis... Soul music (James Brown territory).. Gospel.. Blues. Elvis we know didn't write music he left that to the poets and the songwriters in his era that specialized in that. Elvis truest talent that goes unheralded is his arrangement talent which was LEGENDARY. Elvis didn't write words he arranged them, sang them, performed them and even produced them.
This is the type of music that his good friend James Brown loved. They would sing gospel together and their love for each other in such dark times is worthy of a reaction in and of itself guys...
James performing Elvis’ Love Me Tender in his honor. Remember at Elvis’ private wake when James Brown would not leave Elvis’ coffin. James had to be escorted out by his own security detail over 3 and a half hours later. Look up that song

He started out with rockabilly that was real early. The group of men singers were the Imperials, the Memphis mafia were basically the Body guards and some cousins. Great job guys. Another off the cuff show is in Vegas 1970, when he add libs it called, "Elvis Jaw dropping Performance". Another really grate one is " Elvis/ Michael Jackson, "Feeling in My Body". You will be amazed. Thanks and Be Blessed

------------- Actually 3 things in play here:
    1. The song, which is a cover of another guy, but if you hear them both side by side, Elvis put humanity into his version.
    2. The poem, not part of the song, that Elvis recited. He created fused these together
    3. Elvis unique and sincere interpretation. BTW, he was never shy about mentioning the name of God in his music & live shows.
After Elvis recorded this song, it became his.

Elvis, from the beginning in the 1950s, only had Gospel Quartets backing him up:
    - Jordanaires 1950s 60s
    - Imperials 1969/70
    - Statesman...?
    - JD Sumner & the Stamps Quartet ~1971 - 1977

That was The Imperials backing him standing behind The Sweet Inspirations. His band was called TCB. The Memphis Mafia were his handlers and enablers. Although they claimed to have been his "friends". More like turncoat freeloaders. He fired three of them a year before he died. And they turned on him and wrote a tell all tabloid style book to ruin him. Anyway this song represents what Elvis was all about. Equality and brotherhood.

Elvis must have chose to do this song because the lyrics most likely resonated with him on some level.
However, the song was written by Joe South who had a hit with it in 1970. It would be his second, and last, song to reach the top 20 on the US charts. It also did well on the Australia charts.
The Memphis Mafia were Elvis's bodyguards, some of whom he'd known as friends since high school.
Elvis's band at this time was the TCB⚡ band.
As for the gentlemen back up singers: I'm not sure if- during the 1970 performances- they were The Stamps or The Imperials.
Once again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for reacting to this one & a thank you as well to whomever requested it 👍👍
Really appreciate your continuing the Elvis journey 💖
    TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace & blessings to you & yours 💕

His band was called TPC, the male groups were called The imperials, with sweet inspiration, Elvis blend gospel rhythm and blues country and rock all at the same time that was his brand of music that's why it's hard to say what kind of music this is Joe South is the one who wrote it and it was considered a songwriter song Elvis never wrote one song but he was the best at interpreting best description of that is bridge over troubled water, if you play the original and then play his Paul Simon and art Garfunkel was the one who wrote it but Elvis is the one who blew it out of the water thank you guys for your reaction it's a great song one of my all-time favorites

"Southerm Soul" is the term I think you're searching for. That's the genre that some artists from Elvis' era have referred to as quite a bit of his songs at this particular time in his career.
Interestimg that Elvis himself told one his band members J.D. Sumner one time that he didn't even like the reference "Rock & Roller Elvis Presley", he said "I'm not just a rock & roller. I sing all kinds".
