Good to see you out! Problems with the whisperlite are as common as the stove itself, lol. I found with infrequent use the tiny pump cup on the plunger would split, preventing it from pressurizing the bottle. With frequent use the problem was the jet or fuel line would clog. After back-to-back trips where mine crapped on me, and with the cost of the field maintenence kit approaching the cost of a new pump, I bought a MSR Windpro. It's been reliable down to 2F and no maintenance at all.

It sounds like you had a bunch of problems. I agree about the cost of the maintenance kit. I have only bought 2 in the close to 30 years I have had the stove. This is only the second issue I have ever had in the field. I had my repair kit with me and if I had stayed for a second night I would have broken it down and fixed it. I have my stove working down to -18. I own 7 or 8 stoves and I love this stove but to each their own. Thanks for watching and the comments!

I helped develop the hidden lakes trail in the nicolet national forest 25 years ago and we built some really nice campsites along the system. so would be cool if you could ever do a video on that sometime. its a 13 mile loop starting at franklin lake nature trail. and part of the system is part of the old eagle river nordic ski center but there are some campsites on three jons and butternut , luna white deer and harriot and four ducks lakes some beautiful trails that are part of 100 year old logging roads.

I believe I know where you are talking about. I will look into it and will consider doing a trip there. Thanks for watching!

Your stove board looks good. What’s up with the stove? Nice adventure. I’m realizing you still had 3 miles on the blisters to get back to the vehicle. Ugh.

I think I am going to add the aluminum tape to the edges of the board as the foil keeps trying to peal in places. I think there is an issue with the pump but I have not torn it down yet. I am going to do a stove maintenance video for my next video and will record that this weekend. The walk out I took slow and the new snow helped a lot. I fixed them up before I left and did not have any additional issues but the were sore for the next few days. I bought a new pair of winter hikers and I am breaking those in now.

@@hemlocksandloons I can send you some foil tape for the stove board, if you don’t already have some. I have a great big roll I will never use up. I will look forward to the stove maintenance video. You do a good job with your instructional videos.

Thanks. I did some work to them before leaving, having the new snow on the trail, and taking it slow all helped a lot. I dot think I increased them at all on the way out so that was good.

What a strange winter! Hope your feet are better. Love the history tidbits! What do you use for an underquilt?

Paul, strange is right! We had upper 50's yesterday and 2 inches of snow overnight. I have 2 underquilts. One is a cheep 30 degree Amazon special and the other is a 30 degree ENO. I stack them for winter camping.

Would you refer to this as a bush craft video or a self help video?
I am voting that its your personal self help video, because you love your own voice so much that you appear to have spent 16 minutes and change talking and not doing anything remotely related to bush craft.
I am so glad I learned to block channels on the page the video is on.

Sorry you feel that way but I never claimed this to be a bushcraft channel. It is a canoeing and camping channel with some outdoor skills that include knots. To each their own.
