The biggest thing I noticed is that all of those are usable, unlike some of the oddities from the other weird cymbal videos. Everything you showed here can be used without getting into incredibly eclectic styles of music
These were all appropriately nuts. Your little dubbed groove with the various chimes and discs was spiffy. I was wincing as you laid into the cross china, it looks as fragile as Axl Rose's ego 🤣the three trashy cymbals sounded so good together, just butter on toast. Great content yet again man, thanks!
I have one of the first ever 24" Jupiter Ride cymbals and it is one of my favorite ride cymbals. I have played every large bell/mega bell ride from Zildjian, Paiste, Sabian, and Meinl, but the Jupiter Ride has the best combination of dryness, darkness, and penetration in my opinion. Everyone should check out this guy's stuff.
If the squares were cut inside the cymbal, definitely. Like the china, but with sharper inside corners. As those hats are, they should be fine unless they didn't anneal where the corners are flattened out a bit.
A weirdo cymbal skeptic, I still think every one of these has a unique sound. Not a fan of the square hats, though, as the constantly changing edge would drive me crazy. Thanks for showcasing these. The spinning wagon wheel with the triangle striker was my favorite effect.
Never thought i'd see David with a megabell ride playing 5 minutes alone 😂. Sidenote, that ride sounds damn similar to what vinnie used (22 powerbell Sabian)
I am curious to know. If you had to build your favourite kit out of all the different separate drums and cymbals you have what would that kit look like. [edit] I really liked the sound of the square hats. I didn't think they'd be all that but they sound really nice.
My 6 year old is getting interested in rhythm and was talking about cymbals in his music class. I pulled up this video to talk about different cymbals and sounds and it was perfect! Thank you for documenting your creative exploration!
Dude, those square hats were awesome! I love how playing it like a ride just sounds like a a super washy open open hat underneath a ride sound. Playing with the pedal was cool too. I wonder what a smaller set would sound like…
That THIN massive crash sounds incredible! Explosive, very fast decay, and bright almost brighter than my 14" A Custom Fast crash. Sounds amazing! I NEED one now!! Super cool video David! Keep the coming at us!
The thin one and the “only a bell”. 😋👍 The cymbal with many bells was interesting too. They’ve got so many possibilities and sounds! I’m not a drummer, (but a keyboardist/sound engineer) but I’ve loved drums all my life.
You should contact a company that makes the biggest sheets of brass, copper, bronze or similar alloy and commission the biggest sheet you can possibly get. Then cut it and hammer it into the largest cymbal ever made. Use a flag pole as the stand and use a crane to hit it with a massive stick.
I would totally take that square hihat top to use as an auxilary ride, there was one part where you were riding it open and it was dry and trashy and glorious.
The square hats are not meant to be played as normal hi hats. Unless you put your body weight on the pedal, there’s no definition. But they have so much potential and so many uses, I think they’re incredible!
GMD is based here in Austin and when I bought from stack from him he drove it out to me. It sounds absolutely great and I am glad to see his other designs here!
Thank you for the fantastic compliment. These sounds truly defy comparison to regular cymbals, which most of us are accustomed to hearing. Our goal is to expand everyone's horizons to the possibilities of new sounds in their music. I'm delighted that you share our vision. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if we can ever craft something unique for you.
While these were all pretty strange, I'm surprised at just how good most of them sound. Some are pretty niche, but a good many could find a home on a lot of kits. That china is a beast!
I actually am endorsed with GM Designs ! This is awesome to see the traction he’s getting! If y’all are ever in Austin TX let us know! Keep Austin Weird 💯✊🏾
Thank you for the compliment! I appreciate your concern about potentially cracking our China cymbals. This model, like many of our others, are unique and may require some time to master. In inexperienced hands, they may not last long, but with the right touch, they can provide years of enjoyment. Please stay in touch, as we're introducing new models every six weeks. Cheers!
I thought this was supposed to be a weird cymbal video not your audition for The Miami Sound Machine.. how'd that go by the way did you get that gig?😂 that large bell cymbal reminds me of the Zildjian Z custom mega bell ride, which was a great metal and nu metal ride in the 90's and early 00's. All these cymbals are interesting in their own ways love things that stretch the imagination for drummers
Damn the 2x 10" bell set up is nice... I always try and have a heavey/dry ride far to the right for driving bell patterns and heavy ride playing (z custom, earth rid,) Even good for swing.. I'd like to see other companies make cupchimes of your favorite rides to pair up etc..
Wow. Just when I couldn’t imagine hi-hats being anymore obnoxiously loud, square hi-hats come along and take the cake, steal my beer, and slash my tires. 😳😳😳
5:57 so if my memory serves me correctly I'm pretty sure I posted a link to a Melvins 84' show in the comments of one of your other weirdest cymbals videos asking if you could help identify whatever 'steering-wheel'-esc thing was perched atop the drummer's cymbal stand over his tom... so maybe it's a total coincidence but I'm just going to go ahead and claim this find as my own little contribution to this series.
Thank you for your comment! We researched the Melvins and observed that the drummer was using a Remo Spoxe, which is essentially the aluminum frame of a Roto Tom. Many drummers utilized these for their distinctive sounds. While we didn't draw inspiration for our ship's wheel from this drummer, we fully endorse individuals seeking to create unique sounds for their music. What a fascinating discovery!
What weird cymbals should I play next? 🤔
spherical cymbal
Milk cymbal
Milk
Worlds largest cymbal
Stagg 30inch DH Super Ride
That ride bell is great hahaha! damn
crazy how buried this comment is considering its from 66Samus himself
Bro basically no one has commented exept for trashmarine
Bro basically no one has commented exept for trashmarine and nerfgun
Bro basically no one has commented except for trashmarine nerfgun and leitecomtoddy
the legendary samus came over since he was attracted by the most metal ride cymbal ever.
7:32 when she squats down to pee in the parking lot on the first date
You say that like it's a negative thing 😂

i think you mean 8:10
Yep, she's trashy.

The square high hats would work very well in an industrial EBM synth set up
2:06 Come on, shake your body, baby, do the conga, I know you can't control yourself any longer

i never thought id hear a pair of hihats that sound like a ride when opened.... love it
We agree! In fact, there were moments when it seemed as though the ride cymbal and hi-hats were being played simultaneously. Very cool!
this is prob the best lineup of weird cymbals you've done that actually sound great together on the kit
That mega bell ride is SO GOOD! I wish it didnt cost as much as the Sabian variant!
Damn that 24” big bell ride and the cross china sound insanely good!
Right?! Perfect cymbals for a metal gig

4:09 love seeing dave playing 5 minutes alone, great content as always
Look who's getting better at double bass. Good stuff, Dude.
That was awesome!
As a drummer with a degree in mechanical engineering, all I can think is that those square edges are going to start cracking in no time lol.
If the squares were cut inside the cymbal, definitely. Like the china, but with sharper inside corners. As those hats are, they should be fine unless they didn't anneal where the corners are flattened out a bit.

The 6" cast at 6:14 matched up perfectly with the background music

Weird but they all sound pretty good. Good to see you embracing your dark side....metal!
He back again with probably my favorite series you’ve done on this channel besides customizing cymbals!
FIVE MINUTES ALONE! Just after the “head bangs on broken glass” lyric right?
yes
I am curious to know. If you had to build your favourite kit out of all the different separate drums and cymbals you have what would that kit look like. [edit] I really liked the sound of the square hats. I didn't think they'd be all that but they sound really nice.
4:54 that little grove with the slightly different sounding bell hit is so cool!

Lars must have had these on 72 seasons. That album is a 77 minute hihat solo.
That THIN massive crash sounds incredible! Explosive, very fast decay, and bright almost brighter than my 14" A Custom Fast crash. Sounds amazing! I NEED one now!! Super cool video David! Keep the coming at us!
That 21.5" Neptune crash is friggin' sick.
I miss seeing your cymbal project videos. Thanks for tons of informational and educational content over the years.
i dont know if you want to answer this question, but what happened to your videos?
sounds like a deeper splash and i love it
@isosk1229 youtube happened, and he decided it wasnt profitable to keep his videos up so he deleted them
Weird and fantastic all in one video. The trashy cross-cut china was my favorite. The multi-bell ride was also intriguing.
Yo David playing double bass is so cool! We need more of this sir! 👏
yoo that beat at 6:27 was so sick!
Under rated commet
The thin one and the “only a bell”. 😋👍
The cymbal with many bells was interesting too.

4:14 Amazonia by Gojira ? (mario duplantier)
this is not the weird cymbals in internet these are the weird cymbals in univeses
21,5 inch Neptune is a world first 20+ inches splash
😂
6:15 the cast of bronze is the exact root note of the chord played in the background music! This mustn’t have been accidental surely!
The square hi-hats wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so big. 17" is too damn big, maybe 15" would be a better size?
Bro you are the best, love how you approach the tracks, cymbals are crazy
dude you are the cut editing master with that spoke and bells. that was amazing
Its a good day when david posts
The X-Men China, The Jupiter Ride and Neptune Crash are simply AMAZING.
Jesus Christ, what a nice and sexy brand to buy new cymbals!
Thank you for your kind words. I'm still chuckling over the X-Men China name. Cheers!

"These are interesting"
What a nice word for shit 😂
That thin crash is amazing, it's like it has an auto-mute built in
Cool!!! Those hats were wild! But some of the bells were neat, not to mention that cross china! Great effects!!
David, I loved watching you laugh throughout this video. This one was epically fun. Cheers
"She's crunchy, shes dirty, shes loud, I think im in love" My man!

Glad I'm not the only one, that's awesome :3
4:20 Oh, I know this song, I just need like 5 minutes alone to recall the name.

Neptune sounds like shopping carts crashing into each other in a parking lot.
david plays weird cymbals, what a nice sunday treat for me
You playing Pantera blows my mind LOL. I still have and use Vinnies Signature 22 Powerbell Ride!!
Neptune in my opinion is just screaming out "stack me with smth"
What's obvious, amongst all the madness, is that these guys obviously understand cymbals. Fair play to them. Some of those are absolute class.
This is crazy!! Where do you find the weird stuff…. I’d love to know!

Awe man that Cross China sounds freaking awesome I want one now! I also really dig that Jupiter Ride. 👏👏👏
cant stop addicted to the shindig
that china sounds absolutely amazing! but id be afraid of it cracking fast and basically splitting in 2

Absolutely love that big dingus Jupiter. The bell is so big you can accurately play different notes on it.
Those square hi hats are legit very usable, I'd gladly have those on my setup

The huge bell grabbed me immediately. Fabulous tone.
Thank you for the compliment! We also offer the Jupiter ride in 22", 26", and 28" variants. Cheers!
That Neptune crash was doing all the right things to my ears. I’d worry I’d break it in like 2 gigs tho
I liked the square hats closed. Not really open. But the casts were my favorites. They reminded me of something Stewart Copeland would play.
Yoo the 24" jupiter ride thing is 5 Minutes Alone by Pantera!!
Funny we just finished learning tha song with my proffesor!!

Pantera - 5 minutes alone 😎💪🔥
Long loose rivets in the corners of the Sq hihats would keep them from rotating

I got the biggest kick out of this. It was fascinatingly awesome!
"because it just feels like rubber whenever you're beating on it" -rdavidr
"i just love it, and I can't stop playing with it" -also rdavidr
you've done weirdest cymbals, now do BIGGEST cymbals
That song you were doing on the Jupiter Ride Cymbal was definitely 5 Minutes Alone by Pantera
whats the second song he plays 4:40 ?
The square hi hats sound really good aligned. You need like really long rivets or something through both to keep them square
I enjoy waking up on Saturday, to see that rdavidr made a new video
5 minutes alone!
THE HI HAT SHAPE IS THE STAR OF RDAVIDR
Wow. Just when I couldn’t imagine hi-hats being anymore obnoxiously loud, square hi-hats come along and take the cake, steal my beer, and slash my tires. 😳😳😳
Square hi hats? Ok. Star of David hi hats? Mazel tov!
