Telemetry stream could have been jammed at any time. China meant for it to be seen to send some kind of message. Blinken will need to find out what the message is.

What I noticed is - they shot it down with an AIM-9 which is a heat seeking missile, I don't see the Balloon with heat, but they did say it was steerable, so maybe it used a motor to steer it where they wanted it. If not, then maybe they gave away too much information. I am happy to hear they supposedly blinded it or prevented it from relaying it's information back to it's owners. At least I hope they really did what they said they did.
F22 has sophisticated tracking and guidance systems. I'm sure they used the correct weapon for the job. If it was a heat seeking missile, this should tell you something about how sensitive they are. A ballon, and it's equipment is going to be hotter than surrounding air, as it's heated by the sun.
It would have been cool if that had a drone that could attach with a parachute. Then once the ballon is burst it could descend in one piece for investigation.

It's more complicated to shoot down a balloon. You'll need F22s supported F15s and a tanker jet and don't forget the sidewinder missile for good measure.

The sidewinder only punctured the balloon. They will absolutely recover the equipment, although there will likely be some damage from the impact of the water. I doubt they will learn anything they don’t already know though. More importantly…. the Chinese didn’t learn anything with this balloon equipment that they didn’t already know from Spy planes and satellites. This was blown way out of proportion. The US and China have been spying on each other by other means for years. This balloon wasn’t doing anything they both haven’t already been doing actively for awhile.

The USAF clearly wanted to use it as an excuse for a live-fire exercise. They called dibs. BC/SC Air National Guard are probably quite capable and are likely complaining that they couldn't use it as a target themselves. Gosh-darn Feds and all. The balloon didn't actually pose a threat to intelligence or security. If it was determined to be a threat, it would have been taken down much earlier.

What I noticed is - they shot it down with an AIM-9 which is a heat seeking missile, I don't see the Balloon with heat, but they did say it was steerable, so maybe it used a motor to steer it where they wanted it. If not, then maybe they gave away too much information. I am happy to hear they supposedly blinded it or prevented it from relaying it's information back to it's owners. At least I hope they really did what they said they did.
F22 has sophisticated tracking and guidance systems.
I'm sure they used the correct weapon for the job.
If it was a heat seeking missile, this should tell you something about how sensitive they are. A ballon, and it's equipment is going to be hotter than surrounding air, as it's heated by the sun.

The sidewinder only punctured the balloon. They will absolutely recover the equipment, although there will likely be some damage from the impact of the water. I doubt they will learn anything they don’t already know though.
More importantly…. the Chinese didn’t learn anything with this balloon equipment that they didn’t already know from Spy planes and satellites. This was blown way out of proportion. The US and China have been spying on each other by other means for years. This balloon wasn’t doing anything they both haven’t already been doing actively for awhile.
