  • Ken Takahashi was raised in Hilo on the Big Island for most of his adolescent years. He attended Waiakea High School and furthered his education at University of Hawaii in 1987. He graduated with a degree in International Business.
He then opened The Dog House in the early 90’s at the King’s Village Waikiki while selling hot dogs, shaved ice, Dave’s ice cream and Hawaiian food. Shortly after he opened Shooters Bar and Grill in Hilo in the mid 90’s and had the restaurant open for 12 years. At that time, it was the only 4 AM restaurant bar on the Big Island at that time, and he was the first to bring in constant Hawaiian music from around the state.
After that he did some consulting work in the 2000’s then helped run the Hukilau Restaurant in Downtown Honolulu.
In July of 2010, he opened the Honolulu Burger Company. Ken wanted to promote local 100% grass fed free range beef on Oahu. His goal was to promote and support Hawaii island ranchers and Oahu local farmers and bakeries by using locally sourced ingredients.
Ken did an amazing job as he was the first to provide a fun and unpretentious way of eating local beef. He noted that no one was doing what he was offering at Honolulu Burger Company and if it wasn’t for his restaurant, the only way to get a 100% burger was at high end restaurants.
