Like I get insurance not covering braces for ppl with very minor issues, but anyone with a bite issue probably has something functionally wrong. It's a shady industry. The new trend is to try to force you to take out loans for general services. Several told me I had gyms disease and refused to clean my teeth. I ended up going to a dental school, paid reasonable fees and assured I no where near had gum disease. All the tooth paste is toxic & carcinogenic unless it's all natural. Baking soda & peroxide, pooling and flossing works.
I was gonna say this. We don’t know what happened in their lives. I had mine on for way longer than expected. Not 11 years tho. But in that time (bout 5 years, it’s was sposd to be 2 max) life was whooping my ass. Divorce and unexpectedly had to move 3 times and other things. Let’s just have some compassion and not speak out of our asses.
At this point, would the old orthodontist even charge to take them off? Maybe if he’s an asshole lol. But if it were me I’d just let it go bc I don’t even remember you lol
You have to take into consideration that Dentists pay a lot of money in tuition as well. Not only that but there is also practice costs, staff, materials and equipment that come into play. Its the healthcare system that is corrupt not the dentists.
Y’all don’t have a problem with your medical doctor charging all the money, it’s because YOUR insurance company makes you pay that NOT the dentist, so take that up with YOUR insurance company.
Me and my daughter's dad just paid $6100 for my her braces. My insurance through my husband's job paid $2000 towards them though. We got on a payment plan for $165 a month. She only has a few more months to go until she gets them off and her smile looks amazing. She had to get them because one of her molars were growing towards the roof of her mouth. It had to be pulled but it made a huge gap. All of her teeth would've shifted at the top if we didnt get her braces. So she'll be entering into highschool woth a beautiful smile. We're blessed that we were able to do that and I feel like every child, no matter what the financial circumstances are, deserve a beautiful smile.
RIGHT! I sincerely doubt any parents are sitting there with stacks of hundreds and just said "nah! Idc about my kid anymore now" 😭🤦 My friend went through something similar (she ended up prying off the braces herself 😱 but damaged a couple teeth, still not as scary as this video).. her dad was a single parent after his wife became a drug addict and abandoned him alone with their 5 kids. He did everything possible that one guy could do but orthodontia is hella expensive and their car/house was falling apart too 💔 I wish there were more dental type charities.
Then they shouldn’t get them! I had on my braces for 2 yrs and paid 5k! That’s not bad at all and I was on a payment plan. People need to look into all of their benefit options because I used my FSA to pay off mines and didn’t have to come out of my pocket not one time! People need to do research and don’t get anything they can’t keep up. They tell you the price from the beginning, NO EXCUSES!
@@user-bk5zg8gl2h bro life happens. Your financial security could crumble in a year if something bad enough happened to you. My daughter needed them, told me her adult didn’t have enough room to come in. At the time I had dental insurance. Lost my job and couldn’t afford to keep them up. I asked to have them removed and was denied unless I paid for the whole treatment. Went 2 years asking different dentist offices to just remove them, I’ll pay for that and was denied. Finally the dentist she sees now agreed to remove them. It shouldn’t have taken 2 years and dentist telling me the old office had to agree to them removing it. Old office offered no payment plans and refused every time a new office called to remove them. It’s not always on the parents. Some of us tried and was denied any reasonable accommodations.
Yeah that's just wrong!! All around whole scenario wrong... How they can tell you no and you have to pay for something your not getting makes zero sense. I had braces for 4 years. My gums were always inflamed the whole time I had them. After they were removed, I had a wire put in the back of my bottom teeth to keep the teeth in place. (I had that wire in there for over 25 years) I still suffered from inflamed gums that always bled. I never had the wire removed because I couldn't afford to go to the dentist to have it removed. Even though I had insurance, dentists still wanted all money for the procedure paid upfront and then reimburse me later. It got so bad that I had to go to the ER. I found out that I was allergic to the metal from the braces and the wire. The doctor said I was lucky that I didn't die. I ended up getting all my teeth pulled and got dentures. The allergic reaction to the metal literally rotted the teeth out of my mouth.
That’s terrible! 🫢😔😡 That had to be so traumatic! 😢😓😡You suffered needlessly- and lost your teeth! because we don’t have universal PAID healthcare in the US! 😢😡
Are you talking about a permanent retainer? I have one on my bottom teeth for 20 years now. No movement of my teeth besides a slight shift of the bottom left teeth because I have a bad habit of cheek biting. Also, it was asked when I got my braces off if I wanted a permanent retainer or the traditional retainer. I go to the dentist when my appointments come around but there is no reason to remove it unless it gives you problems or you are not practicing best hygiene like keeping your teeth flossed including yes the back of the retainer.
I say more power to her. It looks like she did a great job of removing them, and good on her for wanting to take care of her teeth. 11 years is ridiculous.
yeah nah keeping them on for that long has led to her getting aggressive periodontitis, she will then need to pay another £1000 to see a gum specialist since she has chronic periodontitis which will eat away at her underlying bone level...definitely not more power on this one, first she better go get her gums checked

The employer decides if they want to cover more than one cleaning a year not the insurance company. An employer can choose whatever they want including how much your copays and deductibles are. Essentially the insurance company works for the employer.
I had a similar situation when my son got braces half way into his treatment i ended up finding out i had breast cancer and couldn't work .....no work=no money to pay health insurance. i just couldn't stomach making him wait longer bc i ended up with breast cancer(even if it was something out of my control). On the days i could get up and move around without feeling like absolutely death, id door dashed to make that monthly payment to his orthodontist❤
Braces are initially expensive AND the maintenance is sn additional cost during and after they are off. It's just on going and that's one thing you have to consider.
I paid $5000 for my braces and it covers everything. I don’t pay anything extra for my visits and adjustments. It also includes the cost of my retainer when I’m done. This includes 3 retainers. Now of course, if I lose all of them I’d have to pay for a new one. But that’s a part of overall dental care. Just like how you have to keep up with cleanings and checkups. It’s worth the money. Straight and correctly aligned teeth are not only aesthetic. They are much healthier.
all of that is fine and dandy. But the subject is about the people who can't afford them and get them anyway for their children. Then they get left in too long and hurt them more than it helps them. Everybody don't have 5000 dollars just laying around. Lol seriously though. Some people don't have insurance or their insurance won't cover them. Some people have things to happen that alters their financial situation. There is a lot of reasons that braces have been left in too long. But not just because they don't want to pay. Moral of the story, if the shoe fits. Don't start when you can't finish. The whole point of this video.
I just took my 4yo to the dentist for the first time last week. Based on the x-rays, braces are definitely in her future. Luckily, I've considered this possibility when she was born, and I've been saving tough into my HSA. This girls mouth looks like it's in pain, and I don't want my daughter to go through that because I poorly planned.
Amazing answer, amazing mother. All parents should think this way. HA! my dad would never have cared enough to plan for my future. Hell, he let me take a “mental health break” off 9th grade. I know someone who had them on for years. Fortunately, they were finally removed before they did any real damage to her gums and teeth. I agree that braces for most people are medically necessary, and insurance should cover the expense.
I think that it is criminal that orthodontist won’t remove braces unless you’ve made the final payment. if someone can’t pay in full, then discontinue the treatment plan and remove the braces, but subject someone to have braces in their mouth for years unless they can pay the balance to have them removed in my opinion is criminal!
Ortho tech here, in my office, we make the parent come in and sign a consent to end treatment form-just saying we will take them off, but they still have to pay bc it’s a contract. She could have done that but maybe it depends on factors. I’m not too sure, but I have had many patients who have not been to the orthodontist in 9 months or more and the gums are so inflamed from not flossing, that they will almost start to grow over the bracket. She had really bad oral hygiene and wasn’t responsible enough to care for her teeth unfortunately.

I had mine for 5 years bc my mom couldn’t pay. I also removed on my own at 21 years old and the cement stained my teeth so badly. Another reason for delay is I moved from OH to AZ, no orthodontist would work with me until I gave a release from the prior orthodontist. The prior would not provide one until I paid money that as a 20 year old I did not have. When I was 30 I was finally able to afford teeth whitening and when I tell you this changed my confidence so MUCH! I never truly smiled in pictures until I was 30.
All you had to do was go to the E.R. I would have said you were in so much pain and the dentist refused to take them off unless you put money in his hand. They would have removed them for you.
@@Tameracle Yes, I'm well aware you had them removed. It's more than just braces. Braces that are on too long can cause calcification, cavities and loose teeth. unfortunately the cost of dental care has very little to do with private dentists. if we want any kind of healthcare free, it’s going to have to be a governmental change. i work the front desk of a dental office and our prices are far from arbitrary. they’re industry standard and have to be that night to keep hygienists/assistants paid, pay lab fees, pay out the ass for materials, and for all the other things we need to stay open. our overhead just in terms of labor is 800 USD and hour. and we’re still suffering with pandemic inflation. gloves and masks still cost exponentially more than before 2020. a box of gloves used to be between 3 and 5 dollars, and now it’s closer to 15. i’m not sure what exactly the answer is to affordable healthcare, but i know it’s not in the hands of healthcare workers.

I am 64 years old. I asked my parents who both had good jobs for braces at 5 years old. I just knew I didn't want a gap, even at that young. They said no. I got badly done bonding in my thirties. It has lasted but is worn down. I tried Smile Direct Club. Retainers for life or the teeth move. Almost 2k down the drain and they went bankrupt so no refund. Another 600 spent on Pop On Veneers. Bottoms are decent. Tops took 3 remakes because they couldn't match the color to the bottoms and they are still too big for my mouth and don't look anything like my real teeth, which is what they promise. I'm tired and disappointed. Dental care and dental insurance must improve in this country. It's a shame what dentists get away with charging... New bonding now starts at 600 per tooth. 😢When I got my done 30 years ago, it was 250 for both teeth. Techniques and products have gotten better and streamlined. Prices shouldn't be this high... Shameful 😢
I had my braces from 3rd to 11th grade 😭🩷 now I’m going to school for dental hygiene and hopefully onto general dentistry because why not, I lived my whole young life in and out of the dentist n orthodontists
I paid out 7000 thousand dollars for braces and then an oral surgery. I had an impacted canine the insurance covered most of the oral surgery but not the braces part but as a single mom since I’ve been going there for three years, she only makes me do payments $100 a month since I’m almost done paying it off and now waives all late fees she is the best.
I will never forget when I was working at a gas station and saw a homeless woman teeth rotted out and the braces still inside. That made my blood boil.
This poor girl, fuck. Her gums look so sore. I wish her all the best with healing and recovery, it must be so freeing to finally get out of braces after 11 years :(
That why I’m so grateful that in Scotland you don’t have pay till your over 18, I got braces when I was a teen. After 18 it’s not that expensive for basic care either.
With dentistry it all depends on insurance. My dad is a retired dentist. He would go toe to toe with insurance companies. Many times he did treatments pro bono. I've learned no to judge.
in their defense, the fuck are you gonna “work out” ??? is there some secret way to get affordable dental care if you ask nicely enough ?? even a payment plan is too much for most ppl living in poverty, hundreds of dollars a month, thousands over years, that’s a huge financial burden even spread out! maybe your office is the only ethical one ever, but i’ve never heard of this phenomenon of just “working something out.” 95% of the time i’m sure it’s not a matter of “not wanting to pay you anymore,” it’s “having zero feasible options.”
My best friend had this issue. Her mom got braces put on her but couldn't afford to keep them up. When she was 17 she just took them off herself. But she has beautiful teeth.
My grandparents took us off their insurance abruptly as teenagers and our orthodontist refused to take my brother's braces off unless my parents paid the remaining $1600 in full which they couldn't afford. My stepdad ended up doing it himself.
I had braces for 6 years because of finances and I went out of state for college. Luckily I finally got them off and always took care of my teeth under the braces even tho I never finished the treatment plan.
I had some orthodontist work done. I have a very crooked premolar on the top that grew behind the other one. So they placed a spacer on one adult molar (I was 8-9 years old) on each side and removed the baby molars to help them properly grow and then to remove the crooked premolar when it grew in (so was suppose to be in for less than 3 years). My parents couldn’t afford to go back to continue treatment or at least get it removed. So the glue loosened enough that bacteria got in and decayed both teeth about 10 years later is finally just fell out. (I was 18 when it fell out) I’m now 25 and finally could afford to get it fixed.. and it was so infected that I had a lot of loss under that tooth. I went through extractions on both teeth and had to get a bone graft done to put an implant there. It was super painful and a miserable surgery, it took about 6 weeks before the stitches were finally removed. It was a complete nightmare!
I think if they loved her enough to put them on her teeth then they loved her enough to want to get them off. This looks like the parents went through a hardship. I don't think they didn't want to pay anymore. This was not foreseen for sure.
I paid $2000 for braces by going to a student clinic at a dental/ortho school. Insurances now may be willing to give you the amount back even if the school isn’t covered. Highly recommend!
I had my mine for so long. I got braces a few months before i went off to college (out of state). Had a hard time finding anyone at a reasonable distance to accept my case. Once i did, the orthodontist was only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It took me 3 hours to get there and 3 hours back, by then i missed a whole day of school. With classes that were only twice a week, performances, and test days it was really tough. I had professors remind me of the attendance policy and being asked if i really have to miss class really sucked. I had to reschedule so many times. I hated my mouth growing up and braces made me hate my mouth more. Ended up having to go to a periodontist. They made me feel better about myself. I had 2 gum surgeries (top then bottom) towards the end of my braces journey. Eventually got my braces off after that and now im okay. Even though i opt-out of jaw surgery, i can smile and show my teeth now😅
The same thing happened to me. No one will take my case I have my braces on since I was in the second grade and I had to take my own braces off when I hit 20.

They are much healthier.

unfortunately the cost of dental care has very little to do with private dentists. if we want any kind of healthcare free, it’s going to have to be a governmental change. i work the front desk of a dental office and our prices are far from arbitrary. they’re industry standard and have to be that night to keep hygienists/assistants paid, pay lab fees, pay out the ass for materials, and for all the other things we need to stay open. our overhead just in terms of labor is 800 USD and hour. and we’re still suffering with pandemic inflation. gloves and masks still cost exponentially more than before 2020. a box of gloves used to be between 3 and 5 dollars, and now it’s closer to 15. i’m not sure what exactly the answer is to affordable healthcare, but i know it’s not in the hands of healthcare workers.

We had different family members pitch in at different points to help my treatment keep going. At one point i moved to a different city for two years and didn't see a dentist for that time as my parents didn't look for one for me. And on top of all of that my orthodontist had been scamming my family for years to make money off of me. Changed to a different doctor and I'm making crazy progress like I'd never made before all those years. I'm supposed to get them off in december now 🙏🏽🙏🏽🎉
OMG!!! Fifteen years!!!!! Why aren't they removed right now?
@@AmyLeeAngelLovedid u not read their comment ? theyre on track to get them removed this year
@@tooniesz8140 I don't think you read my comment. Why won't they be removed NOW.. why wait until December?
I am 64 years old. I asked my parents who both had good jobs for braces at 5 years old. I just knew I didn't want a gap, even at that young. They said no. I got badly done bonding in my thirties. It has lasted but is worn down. I tried Smile Direct Club. Retainers for life or the teeth move. Almost
2k down the drain and they went bankrupt so no refund. Shameful 😢
The way he called out his audience to be younger than 11yrs old lmao
We were all 11 once
Dude you have the craziest eyebrows 😂 can you wave them?

The reason she had them in for 11 years is because she could no longer afford it. Simple.
The 11 year old watching this: 😮👁️👁️
Her gums are making mine hurt. 🫢 Bless her heart!!
It came together quite well for her considering where she started. 11 years, finished product looks great.
My teeth are almost completely straight. This is my 3rd - 4th month of braces and my teeth are about 50% straighter.
Shit, I’ve had them for almost 11 years now 😭 I have to go the dentist soon to see what my teeth looks like. I’m honestly scared to go.
Smoking vapes also kept her teeth brown 😂😂😂
I had my braces from 3rd to 11th grade 😭🩷 now I’m going to school for dental hygiene and hopefully onto general dentistry because why not, I lived my whole young life in and out of the dentist n orthodontists
11 years is how many years I’ve exactly been alive 😭🙏🏼
Lzzz
The whole video tore the hell up 🤣 I went from teeth to eyebrows and heard nothing . 💀😮💨
"longer than some of you have been ALIVE"
I feel called out😭
😂😂😂😂
Bro looks like he was mad for 11 years with those eyebrows 🤣🤣
So nobody is gonna talk about how she slobbered a bit
I paid out 7000 thousand dollars for braces and then an oral surgery. I had an impacted canine the insurance covered most of the oral surgery but not the braces part but as a single mom since I’ve been going there for three years, she only makes me do payments $100 a month since I’m almost done paying it off and now waives all late fees she is the best.
WE GOT A "PUHH" AGAIN!
Damn her teeth are absolutely brutal. Super short n weird looking makes me grateful for mine lmaoo
Same thing happened to me as a kid. I ended up back in braces at 25 but my smile is beautiful now. It took me a long time to get over that resentment.
in their defense, the fuck are you gonna “work out” ??? is there some secret way to get affordable dental care if you ask nicely enough ?? even a payment plan is too much for most ppl living in poverty, hundreds of dollars a month, thousands over years, that’s a huge financial burden even spread out! maybe your office is the only ethical one ever, but i’ve never heard of this phenomenon of just “working something out.” 95% of the time i’m sure it’s not a matter of “not wanting to pay you anymore,” it’s “having zero feasible options.”
African moms fix your teeth with a hot wooden spoon... 😂❤... That was the "braces" my mother used on me n my teeth been perfect ever since 😂😂
Please give details!!!
😂😂
How let me know what all yall did
Lies 😂😂
i was in mine for 7. ripped em off with pliers. a couple years later a lovely dentist took her time to remove all the cement and what not. did me good
Make dental care affordable
My best friend had this issue. Her mom got braces put on her but couldn't afford to keep them up. When she was 17 she just took them off herself. But she has beautiful teeth.
What did she use to remove them?
@@chinajimenez1951 needle nose pliers if I recall correctly.
Ouch!
bros had braces for longer than i've been a teen 😭😭😭

My grandparents took us off their insurance abruptly as teenagers and our orthodontist refused to take my brother's braces off unless my parents paid the remaining $1600 in full which they couldn't afford. My stepdad ended up doing it himself.
the "PUHH" never gets old 😂
His brows trip me all the way out 😂😂😂
I had braces for 6 years because of finances and I went out of state for college. Luckily I finally got them off and always took care of my teeth under the braces even tho I never finished the treatment plan.
I had mine for 6 years as well. I got mine taken off in February
I watch these videos since ill never be able to afford a dentist ever but i like seeing peoples great results
Not “wanting” to pay and “CANT” pay are two different things
I had some orthodontist work done. I have a very crooked premolar on the top that grew behind the other one. So they placed a spacer on one adult molar (I was 8-9 years old) on each side and removed the baby molars to help them properly grow and then to remove the crooked premolar when it grew in (so was suppose to be in for less than 3 years).
My parents couldn’t afford to go back to continue treatment or at least get it removed. So the glue loosened enough that bacteria got in and decayed both teeth about 10 years later is finally just fell out. (I was 18 when it fell out)
I’m now 25 and finally could afford to get it fixed.. and it was so infected that I had a lot of loss under that tooth. I went through extractions on both teeth and had to get a bone graft done to put an implant there. It was super painful and a miserable surgery, it took about 6 weeks before the stitches were finally removed. It was a complete nightmare!
Do you now have implants?
That’s why I said no to braces, I knew my parents would not be able to afford it. 😔
My mom could but chose not to get me any. I needed them
@kell-yh4ec you can still get them once you're 18 & have a job & pay for it yourself.
I think if they loved her enough to put them on her teeth then they loved her enough to want to get them off. This looks like the parents went through a hardship. I don't think they didn't want to pay anymore. This was not foreseen for sure.
Kenny’s so clueless … bless him 😂
Her gums are really swollen😣 but she looks really pretty 😊
Lmfao at his reaction "I was gonna get mad but I will allow it" 😭
😂 he said poofy & nasty...
Bentist here to keep it real ❤
Liking your approach to this situation. I wonder if there’s a way to improve the gum health a little after this (even though it’s permanent damage)?
She could get cosmetic gum surgery and cut off all of the excess gum that's giving her a gummy smile... After treating the redness and swelling
Even proper oral care could greatly help her situation
I paid $2000 for braces by going to a student clinic at a dental/ortho school. Insurances now may be willing to give you the amount back even if the school isn’t covered. Highly recommend!
"don't want to pay" or can't pay
She's beautiful❤
DANG I HAVE HAD MINE FOR 1 MONTH AND I HATE IT, POOR GIRL...
(i have to have them for 2 more years)
don’t worry it’s gonna get easier by the time. the first month is always the most uncomfortable

You calling her broke?
Thank God for perfectly aligned teeth. Some people want to wear braces as style
Wow, first time I have seen bentists comment section come for him!
Reality ✔️
No child should be harmed when a parent can't afford to continue treatment.
Remove the braces, stop the treatment. I don't know how it's standard practice to refuse to remove braces if a parent wasn't able to continue paying!!! That's child abuse! Unscrupulous!
She still got capital gums and lowercase teeth
