Here's a detailed Comparison of fig-cutting propagation in 3 different growing medium.
Select a healthy Mature fig tree: Choose a branch that is about the thickness of a pencil and has at least 2-3 nodes (the points where leaves emerge).
Take 3 identical fig cuttings of 4 to 5 inches length each.
Prepare the cutting: Make a sharp cut at the bottom end of the cutting just below a node and remove any leaves from the bottom half of the cutting.
Growing medium:
To observe the growth comparison of fig tree cutting, we will use 3 different growing mediums Cocopeat, normal soil (without any compost), and normal water.
Take 3 identical pots (prefer a transparent disposable glass of the same size)
fill those pots with soil, Cocopeat, and normal water, and plant those cutting in soil and Cocopeat . Maintain the water level and keep it in a shaded area. Cover each pot with transparent polythene to keep moisture long and to avoid frequent watering.
check the moisture every 8-10 days and moisten if required. New growth will start to appear within 7-8 days.
in this experimental gardening video, you will see that fig cutting grows well in Cocopeat followed by water.
Plant the cutting: After sufficient root formation, Plant these cuttings in a pot or in-ground. Fig trees can grow well in any kind of normal soil having good drainage.
For plantation in a pot choose a pot of size 12-15 inches for better results. Fill the pot with well-draining potting soil and 20% organic compost. Old dried leaves and small wood chips can also be used with soil.
Water thoroughly and keep in a full sunlight area.
Figs plant care: After plantation, keep the plant in a sunlight area and keep fertilizing the plant every 2-3 months if planted in a container.
It takes about 4-5 months for fruiting in fig tree if grown from cutting.
