    Laminated glass is nice for side windows until your car ends up under water and you need to smash the side window to get out.

      You want to go for front or back windows, or just roll down the window, everyone isn’t living as a secret agent 😂. Or live around oceans a car takes a minute to sink

    There’s one big problem with having laminated glass for side and rear windows...it makes it difficult for first responders trying to extricate those involved in an accident.

      @DanniV8 3 роки тому +4

      It also breaks into bigger chunks and can actually cut the occupant in the seat in rollovers for example. I don't understand why anyone would want laminated side windows in their car...

      It also prevents you from being able to use the glass breakers to get out of a car if in water. The glass breakers are useless with laminated car windows. Your sunroof or hatch window may still be tempered so there may a saving grace. But this is a really bad downside to cars built after 2017.

      Yea, this is an absolute shit idea. I didn't even know they did this until my wife's new jeep got a crack in the side window, which I thought shouldn't be possible. Two front windows are laminated, back two are tempered. We live on dirt roads, so, yay for having to replace side windows for the life of the vehicle. Also yea, the whole not being able to break the window you're directly next to could be a big issue.

    One thing that should be mentioned is why tempered parts are used on the side windows most often. And that's because of collisions where you need to be able to escape the vehicle. Laminated glass would be pretty dangerous to break and climb out of. Tempered glass however might cut your hands a bit but will allow you to escape. Also even though tempered glass shatters when damaged, it is significantly harder to damage. Side laminated windows are relatively easy to Crack. Similar to a windshield. And are likely to need more frequent replacement due to chips and cracks.

      While water and fire-related accidents are very serious, they make up less than .5% of all accidents that are reported on the road. With most passenger and driver injuries occurring during collisions, laminated side windows will actually do a more effective job of keeping you safe on the road.

    The problem with laminated glass on side windows is that in case you are stuck in your vehicle you cannot use one of the little emergency glass breakers to escape. So unless you happen to have a framing hammer you are pretty much out of luck. I have heard that once you use your firearm to put a couple holes in the laminated side window glass it is possible to kick out the remaining glass once the cracks have propagated throughout it, unfortunately there are still a lot of people who do not carry such tools on their person though.
