She’s getting on a bit and the bodywork needs some attention - but I just can’t part with such an awesome car. A bit of history for you - The straight six engine was BMW’s first commercial production; and fitted to the Fokker DVII in 1917 - a very feared and successful aircraft.

I had an E85 Z4M Roadster and god do I miss it for that S54. Such a sweet engine with immense power delivery across the rev range. And sounds so good. Currently have a red E30 318i which is mint with ultra low mileage, but obviously very slow. This tempts the hell out of me! Just by driving my E30 I immediately fall in love with the chassis, driving position and feedback. The S54 would literally make it perfect. Well done you.
This is beautiful and I love the way it sounds. I have this motor sitting on an engine stand in my garage. Right now I have all the suspension torn out for a 5 lug swap. Cannot wait for the final result. Thanks for posting!

In 2 door it's long and low, like a speedboat on wheels whose back end swings when you want it, and when you don't lmao..., 2500 engine sounds like a ferrari to someone who never had a ferrari lol, great comfort, great handling and response... a car for a driver, a car for a car enthusiast. BMW made some of the most beautiful and iconic cars ever. 2002ti, 3.0csl, 325i e30, 635csi e24, m3 e46, e28 525, 1m, m2, m240,

Thank you for sharing your story Evan. I can certainly relate at the moment. I am building my dream E30 Touring at the moment and so far it has been a process of two years. I was on the fence about the S54, but I decided to build a 3.0L Stoker M20 as I wanted to learn about building motors. I have taken literally every part off this car and put it back together again with everything I have learned about through my addiction to vintage BMW's. Besides the aspect of what our cars are, its the emotional aspect of your wording that brings me to comment. These types of builds require a great deal of money beyond the seemingly endless amount of time, and due to the fact I do not make huge amounts of money I certainly have to sacrifice other opportunities in life to build my dream car. This is where the dedication really hits close to home. In the last two years I have bought, restored and sold three- E30's to be able to fund this project. Had numerous, hard conversations with my lady about why I am spending some much time and money on this idea, and it would be impossible to say that I haven't contemplated moving on from this multi-year 'fun' commitment. Many people buy cars, many people build cars, few people build their dream cars. It's an experience and the only way to truly know what it feels like is to do it yourself. Sounds like you know your way around these cars now. Stroker m20's are always an interesting route to take, and it's definitely nice to see tuned m20's with their 2 valve heads screaming. Will you have more e30's restored and put up for sale in the future, especially imported e30 tourings? I'd be interested.

Kudos - great job with a complicated project! I know how you felt having completely restored my 1991 318iS over a 2 and a half year period. Wonderful feeling once it’s done but the journey itself was awesome. Now Ive pulled the S14 from my 1990 e30 M3 and getting it rebuilt..the fun never ends...

AWESOME! I have an E46 330CI swapped with a full E46 M3 Drive train. The problem is that the 330 chassis is starting to rust out. The car runs like a dream and I love it. It's essentially a full M3 after all. But the rust is a problem and now I've been watching these videos of E30's with S54 engine swaps But E30's are not cheap anymore. I need to find an E30 that's been taken apart and without an engine and then I could maybe afford to buy it. Then swap out the Full Drive Train from the 330CI into it. The LSD diff from the M3 and the 6 speed Manual from the M3 are just waiting to go into an E30 in my mind LOL. I have it all right there. Sigh..... I have the garage as well as the tools too. The whole steering rack.....Well the rack is the Purple one from the 330CI for the fastest lock to lock rack but the rest and Struts are all OEM E46 M3 in that thing! AHHH!
I’ve been searching for E30’s. I emailed a guy last week about one he was selling but he never got back to me. So the search continues. I plan on doing a swap as well but don’t know what. If my pockets allow, I’d love to do an off the wall euro to JDM swap. Like put in a Lexus V8 or V6. I want to keep it simple so no A/C, no heat, just an honest to goodness weekend warrior. A perfect replacement for my motorcycle that my wife is forcing me to sell.
Me and my brother thought about swapping a s54 but we found a good deal on vq37 out of 370z nismo and N/A torque delivery on vq is alot crazier than s54 .pushing 308whp and 262torque from 2k rpm until redline
Makes me more confident on my seat arosa 1997 1.9 tdi swap hopefully in the future i will swap the 1.0 petrol engine with the tdi right now im almost 15 soo there is time and if i work i might buy a donor car to swap engines and keep it until the time comes

I lost control in my E46 M3 and insurance is offering me $13k. And they’re saying it’s totaled. And so their buy back price is $11k.... Blows my mind. And it sucks. Take good care of her man! I’d do anything to have my car back
Victor Robinson so I read something wrong. They offered $13.5 to take it. They offered $10k if I want to keep it and I’m pretty sure $10k would cover repairs.
To be honest, I love this car and model, the only thing I would change that I did not like is the top part of the seat the head rest, and the mags, I would have put the 5 star wheels. Also swapped that radio and get a better unit and the clock from analogue to the original digital.
