For every dream project that gets completed, there are 100 more that are given up on due to time, money, loss of motivation, etc. I've personally spent 7 months building a car thinking I was done at the end, only to realize it then needed double the time and money that I had already invested in order to actually be where I wanted it.
This E30 and Evan's story show what happens when you stick with the original plan and see it all the way through. The sound alone makes it worth it.

Only issue with this video is it should have been an hour long. Truly well done, my e30 325i has not be on the road since 2010 as it needs restored. That will change next year.
Mr E30 just put my 318is away for the winter for a light resto; can’t wait to get back out in it.

only issue with this video is it reminds me of what I don't have anymore... lmao. I bought 325 from scrap yard, fixed it, ran it, rebuilt the engine, ran it, got divorced, lost my world, lost my sanity, lost my car... few years later now driving m240 and wish I had e30 again. such a great car, great, great car... still don't have my sanity back... was I ever sane? IDK lmao. good luck with, and enjoy, your project cars, guys. never let them go.
Naturally aspirated straight six, best engine config on the planet.
My 95 E36 328 still blows me away every time I drive it - not really really fast by today’s standards but.......that feel and sound is just amazing. She’s getting on a bit and the bodywork needs some attention - but I just can’t part with such an awesome car. A bit of history for you - The straight six engine was BMW’s first commercial production; and fitted to the Fokker DVII in 1917 - a very feared and successful aircraft.
Flat six from Porsche is also beautiful

Kudos - great job with a complicated project! I know how you felt having completely restored my 1991 318iS over a 2 and a half year period. Wonderful feeling once it’s done but the journey itself was awesome. Now Ive pulled the S14 from my 1990 e30 M3 and getting it rebuilt..the fun never ends...
So glad this popped up for me! I'm halfway through my n54 swap, I know it won't have the sound and character of yours but it's still a total labour of love - the motor came from the first car I bought when I moved to this country, I've put nearly 100k miles on it and now it's going to live on!
At moments like this, I really miss my old E30 325. Excellent work!

I too have a red baur. Imported it in 1984. Did an s50 conversion about 10 years ago. Much fun. Hope you enjoy your baur as much as I always have.

I had an E85 Z4M Roadster and god do I miss it for that S54. Such a sweet engine with immense power delivery across the rev range. And sounds so good. Currently have a red E30 318i which is mint with ultra low mileage, but obviously very slow. This tempts the hell out of me!
Just by driving my E30 I immediately fall in love with the chassis, driving position and feedback. The S54 would literally make it perfect. Well done you.

the S54 is a very good choice for the E30 and E34, I sometimes think of the M5 3.8 as buying and installing an S54.

I am building my dream E30 Touring at the moment and so far it has been a process of two years. I was on the fence about the S54, but I decided to build a 3.0L Stoker M20 as I wanted to learn about building motors. I have taken literally every part off this car and put it back together again with everything I have learned about through my addiction to vintage BMW's.
Besides the aspect of what our cars are, its the emotional aspect of your wording that brings me to comment. These types of builds require a great deal of money beyond the seemingly endless amount of time, and due to the fact I do not make huge amounts of money I certainly have to sacrifice other opportunities in life to build my dream car. This is where the dedication really hits close to home. In the last two years I have bought, restored and sold three- E30's to be able to fund this project. Had numerous, hard conversations with my lady about why I am spending some much time and money on this idea, and it would be impossible to say that I haven't contemplated moving on from this multi-year 'fun' commitment.
Many people buy cars, many people build cars, few people build their dream cars. It's an experience and the only way to truly know what it feels like is to do it yourself.

Sounds like you know your way around these cars now. Stroker m20's are always an interesting route to take, and it's definitely nice to see tuned m20's with their 2 valve heads screaming. Will you have more e30's restored and put up for sale in the future, especially imported e30 tourings? I'd be interested.

This is an absolute classy beauty! Congrats on this, you nailed it. I even like the off-colored tachometer, it fits perfectly here. Have you considered running chrome kidneys? I bet these would look awesome with the wheels and the "shadow" hellas.
