    Refinancing is a very smart move - I went from 10% in Sallie Mae to 3.8% in Laurel Road.

      I got sallie mae for my pilot school $97,000 and have 8.125% interest rate. How did it work out for you, how lomg did it take to pay off your loan. I do around $940 monthy payments

    I go into debt tomorrow, I only owe about $8,997 of student loans. I dropped out of college that’s why, but they’ve been charging me ever since, this helped me a lot!

    So thankful for her content & content like this. This stuff should seriously be taught in high schools. I only just finished paying off my student debt 10 years post grad

      I have to agree with you this stuff should be taught in high school. Even when I signed up to go to the university there's a lot of questions I didn't ask and I'm paying for it but I'm getting on the ball.

    The only thing is sometimes you have to pay your balance down to even start the consolifation process!

    Thanks Marissa! I think the only downside to refinancing federal student loans is that you loose all the potential payment options like income based, economic hardship etc etc, and also if federal student loans being eligible for the current forbearance. I guess you should definitely have a definitive payoff plan before you refinance.

    • @TheBudgetingWife

      I think refinancing private student loans has a really great potential! Federal do have additional benefits and typically lower interest rates. But it can make more sense for private loans!

    • @ileanacardona2248
      @ileanacardona2248 2 роки тому +7

      I agree. If you’re willing to trade federal protections, potential forgiveness (when applicable) and income based repayment in exchange for lower interest rates and a shorter repayment period, then refinancing is a good way to go. But if not, I’d stick with federal loans and throw extra money toward the debt.

      @@ileanacardona2248 Agreed, it’s a ‘catch 22’ if switching to private loans and refinancing. Need more $$$ to handle higher monthly payments and shorter term, even with lower interest payments.

    refinancing has helped me save a lot of money that i would put towards my loans! instead of the money going towards interest, now it would go towards the principle

    This is great, thank you! Question: My daughter graduated this past May, and her loan payments are starting this December. She does plan to go BACK to school this fall though at a different school, for a different program. Can she/we still refinance those private loans (~115k!) and NOT have to start repaying yet? Or do we have to keep them with her current lender (SallieMae) until she's completely done with school? Thanks

    • @eligreg99
      @eligreg99 Рік тому +5

      I think she should not go to school with 115k in debt.

    • @Nini7181
      @Nini7181 10 місяців тому

      I think it makes more sense to take paying down the debt while she's currently in school if she really wants to go back. By the time, she graduates she would have paid off most of her debt.

    My husband and I paid off all our student debt. I think kids borrow way too much money on school. They should consider going to community college first or living at home instead of going away. Your do not need to borrow so much. I am against large scale debt relief. People need to buckle down and pay off their loans.

      To be fair, my parents wouldn’t “allow” me to go to a junior college for the first year/two years. I would be kicked out if I went to our local college instead of my 4 year university. Nearly $80,000 later and I’m the one to pay it off

    Hi, I am from India planning to study in UK January 2024 intake. I have taken an loan amount of 30 lakhs that is 30000 GBP. Can I will be able to pay back the loan amount after my graduation, by working in UK?
    1 UK pound = 100 Indian rupees.
    My monthly emi is around 490 pounds which means 50 thousand Indian rupees. Is it easy to make money in UK and send back to India as the currency exchange rate is high?? Please reply!!!!

      Hi, I’m done with my masters in the UK. I have taken student loan as well. If you’re asking about jobs in the UK it totally depends on what subject you chose, what experience you have. Finding a job in the UK is quite hard. None of my classmates managed to find a job till now. We are 2022 September batch.
