Finally a video that jumps right into the app navigation and clearly explains basic use. Thank you. I notice that I do not have the filter option on Android when on the discovery tab.
We’re just getting into Overlanding and planning our first trips, I have to say you have the best overlanding channel on all of UA-cam. These videos are so helpful for people like me, and your trip films are so inspiring and well done. Thank you!
Great video! Well timed, as well! I am currently in the Hoosier National Forest camping with my wife. I had heard about how useful GaiaGPS can be when marking possible dispersed camping sites. Today I used it for that and for navigating a hike on an unfamiliar trail, Brilliant! BTW, not bad just on my iPhone for both. Great product! Thanks for the timely overview!
There are quite a few Gaia GPS basics videos. I have used Gaia for a 3 month free trial and am considering a subscription. Would love to see an advanced video to learn all the features I don't know about.
I needed help managing Gaia and after looking at several videos, yours is ranked in the top 2. Learned a lot. Thanks so much. Went to your channel. Lots of good content. Thumbs up and new subscriber.
Rob - just in time as I've been starting to go through my Gaia GPS app lately and needed a primer on how to use it better! Well done! LOL- I also caught the DBBB trail references in there! Now that you're driving a Toyota maybe we'll even see you on the KY Toyota Trail Ride!
Thanks! Make a video of all your navigation fails and fixes you have encountered, like quirks in apps, when the tech didn't work as intended, using the stars to navigate, getting lost, relying on someone overconfident about navigating u into an abyss, etc. Cheers
Lol! The only time I've not been able to use Gaia was when I forgot to download maps for an area, and we were supposed to be meeting a buddy in the middle of Kaibab National Forest at some co-ords he texted us. We managed to figure it out using my atlas, but I don't think I could teach map reading on video!
Great Video. As usual. I love your stuff. Perhaps it is also BC I have a 2011 4Runner. I have the premium subscription it Gaia. Just purchased it, but I can find the Public Land (US) map like you have. Where would I get that? And... I’m currently in Boone NC for a week or so. Do you have any good trails for off reading in the area?
if you google search "Public Land (US) Gaia GPS" the first page (for me at least) was a link to that layer. In the upper right there was a button that said add to my account. Did that and it showed up for me.
Thank you tremendously. Maybe there are sources for this info but I've been baffled that it seems there is no official intro/overview on how to use this app. People at my local outdoor store are not much help either.
I'm trying to find a "contact" button to no avail. I'm looking for someone to tutor me on saving Gaia maps for Forest Service permit apps. Can you help? Should only take an hour or so and I'm happy to over-pay you.
Do any of the map layers have a method to identify public unpaved roads? IE: Garmin uses dashed lines for unpaved vs solid lines for paved. I ride a dual sport motorcycle and want to stay away from paved roads when getting to the trails.
I can't find the Public lands layer. I have the paid version but not premium. I went into add layers and US there are 20 layers and none named Public Lands? That is a great feature
Thanks for going into detail, I do have it but find it confusing. You’ve help a lot with this video, if you have more info please continue on another video.Always enjoy your video’s. many thanks! Tom @ OverlandRubicon
0:55 I prefer to save the money for celluar Version and save it for a external Bluetooth GPS Tracker like a "Garmin GLO 2". This GPS is way more accurate than the tiny built in GPS Module in the celluar version. Any one pefers diffrent ;)
All of your routes and waypoints are stored locally on your device (phone, tablet, etc.), but will be synced to your account. That way if you plan something on your computer, it'll show up on your phone. If you record something on your phone, it'll show up on your tablet. That's standard across all plans, whether paid or free. The paid versions allow you to download map layers to your phone/tablet for offline use, and the premium version gives you more map layers to use.
My biggest complains are the aerials and other raster layers. The main aerial is terrible quality. And there is limited rasters available for use. I thought there would be a bigger variety available. Additionally, you can not import rasters, that is a big dissapointment. And waypoints being limited to 1,000 is also a negative - I have big kmz files full of waypoints and I have to edit them down to a specific state/country/subgroup everytime I import.
2 yr. old video. Currently 2022...Their file size limit is GAIA GPS downfall. Many other great mapping apps that don't have file size restrictions. We use them...
You can track your location any time on the free and paid versions of Gaia. The tracks are overlaid on the maps. If you want to be able to view the maps with no internet service, you'll need to download the maps to your phone/tablet, which requires one of the paid versions of Gaia.
Missing true basics. How to turn on the navigation ? Where is the Start button ? How do you know it's on ? If you deviate from the track, how does it let you know ? So far I've spent hours on my bike without hearing a single useful thing to keep on the path !
Hi. Can you tell the gaiagps website to stop harassing me to sign up for an account? It keeps putting cookies in my browser which requires me to either delete the cookies or open a private browser to actually go to the URL I want to without being harassed. I HATE websites that harass you to sign up - BUG OFF. I just want GPX tracks for hiking with the Osmand+ stupid android app (that I also had to pirate because it's yet another egregious piece of software that thinks it should cost money)
Video is several years old now but I just used your link to save on Gaia subscription! Great video thank you
Best Gaia tutorial I’ve found. Direct and to the point. Thanks!
I've seen most if not all GAIA videos. Yours is the best.
Finally a video that jumps right into the app navigation and clearly explains basic use. Thank you. I notice that I do not have the filter option on Android when on the discovery tab.
Interesting. It’s been a long time since I’ve used it on an Android, but I’ve always heard the iOS version is a little more refined.
Crap tutorial

Fantastic! New to Gaia this sorted me out for the WABDR.
Very helpful! I’ve used Gaia for a while, but I learned a few new tricks. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I love fish lake! I go fishing there all the time. Instantly recognized it.
Thanks for the informative vid. I use GAIA on my iPhone, and it's significantly different than your examples.
Love Gaia GPS, I've been using it for years now. Great video.
Thank you for the video, I almost bought the the wrong iPad , I didn’t realize the difference with and without using GPS apps.

Nice! I'm so ready to go camping. Glad the video was helpful!
Very informative video. I’m just staring to use Gaia and this helps a lot.

Great little how to on the Gaia. Awesome
Dude... awesome video. I'm getting into bike packing and this is really helpful. Well done!
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Really useful! Thank you for making this video!

I would like gaia to have more icons! thanks for sharing-
Saludos desde Chile
Otro Chileno por acá jeje, saludos.
What do you recommend to organize multiple info when folders weren't used from the beginning?
Great video! How do you copy a dropped pin from google maps and paste and find that pin on Gaia?
I copied and paste like you did but nothing happens.
Great overview, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great Video
Cheers,

Excellent job thx
Where do you explain about navigation? Which button to click when you are out in the field and need to navigate with the map?
Top right will have it track you. Press it again, and it'll track you and orientate the map in the direction you're facing.
Do you know how to change the folder location where Gaia stores maps and layer on Android?
Do any of the map layers have a method to identify public unpaved roads? IE: Garmin uses dashed lines for unpaved vs solid lines for paved. I ride a dual sport motorcycle and want to stay away from paved roads when getting to the trails.
The USGS, NatGeo, and USFS do. USGS is not user friendly, and the NatGeo and USFS are only available in select areas.
Can you share a link for the drone you use/recommend ?
I have all my equipment at www.revereoverland.com/equipment#camera-video
Mine is a Mavic 2 Pro, and is one of the top consumer drones.
Can you use coordinates to create a route?
I can't find the Public lands layer. I have the paid version but not premium. I went into add layers and US there are 20 layers and none named Public Lands? That is a great feature
I think it’s on premium only!

That Gaia map “Public Lands (US)” where did you find that
It's under the map laters, but only available with Premium.
it says we can download these routes to our garmin but i sure cant figure it out

Definitely more accurate, which is great for something like geocaching, but for road navigation the iPad chip is plenty!

Fair enough, i agree with you.
The cloud storage. Is that something you have to subscribe and pay for or does Gaia provide the cloud to store the map data.
All of your routes and waypoints are stored locally on your device (phone, tablet, etc.), but will be synced to your account. @@RevereOverland Thank you!
Not a single word about the most critical function.. turn by turn directions. But i know how to take a picture.
good stuff

Satellite imagery needs data?
If I bought it here in the States, would it work in Southern Europe (Greece and Italy) where I go off-roading every year (April-May, usually). Thanks!
Yes, the Gaia topo map is global, so works everywhere. You won't have nearly as many options for other map layers in Europe though.
Revere Overland thanks. Do you know if there is a European Edition with equally as many options as the American one? Thanks.
2 yr. old video.
Currently 2022...Their file size limit is GAIA GPS downfall.
Many other great mapping apps that don't have file size restrictions. We use them...
Not sure if I'm missing something or what but when I go on the Discover tab there isn't a 4x4 filter its only showing hiking.
Are you on Android or iOS?
@@RevereOverland Same issue and question here, I'm on Android. Thank you for overview! Much appreciated
How do you know is a 4wd road
Total noob question: If I download a map, will the app track my gps location on that same map? (if there is zero internet reception) Thanks!
You can track your location any time on the free and paid versions of Gaia. The tracks are overlaid on the maps. If you want to be able to view the maps with no internet service, you'll need to download the maps to your phone/tablet, which requires one of the paid versions of Gaia.
How can I delete a pin drop?
What are you looking to do in SD?
Not sure yet!
Apple Car Play works on your Dash... Android Auto does not yet..... :(
I didn’t even think about that, but my 2010 4Runner doesn’t have Apple Car Play anyway!
I’m from South Dakota. All you need to save is the Black Hills the rest is garbage.
I have 256 GB on my phone, so I should be ok for a while

Worthless. I have gps coordinates or map coordinates ... gaia has nothing in the app if how to enter those formats and how to navigate....
Awesome presentation! Thanks!
