Very nice
Wow
To The Magic Geek. Orlando, Kissimmee and Burn Vista are beautiful cities! You've got to remember that Kissimmee and Orlando are the one cities in tourism in the whole world! I live and grew up in city of Tampa, Florida, even before both of you guys were born! And I've been going out there for more than forty four years, back when there was only Magic Kingdom, SeaWorld and a wax museum that was open! I do a have a suggestion for you guys check on foreclose homes, condos and apartments, especially in the Kissimmee area of 192 exit 64 of I-4 heading east, I know some people that love out that way and bought houses for a little bit less! I've got a nephew that lives and works in the state of Oregon and the pay out there is much more than here, unless you own your own business, and right with this pandemic, everything is ghost town out there until this week some places are opening back up! Just a suggestion, and I did enjoy your video from someone that God knows how many tes I've been to all those amusement parks out there! Stay safe! Let's how much longer before everything opens back up again, which there'll be a lot of changes. Frank.
I’m thinking about moving to Orlando
Moving to Florida is amazing! Traffic can be crazy, but once you learn back roads you can avoid some of the I-4 mess. After two years of living about an hour north of Orlando I can honestly say that this has been the best move we have ever made. We have no more WI winters or Chicago driving, which is FAR worse than Orlando in my opinion. Yes, there are issues in Florida. But everyplace has something that is negative.
Very true! I thankfully didn't have to drive when I've been in Chicago and it wasn't in the winter. I've heard those Midwest winters can be super rough!
@@TheMagicGeekdom they can be. Having lived their my whole life I was used to dealing with snow, but I definitely prefer hearing friends and family tell us about it an sending us pictures than actually experiencing it myself. 😀
People in Florida don’t use turn signals lol
We are getting ready to make the move soon. From Chicago. We have two kids 7 and 2.
We are both very nervous. It's a huge change.
@@Guitar157 That checks out lol
This is James Knight. It is my whole hearted conviction my life should be lived like a vacation.
Makes sense to me!
SUMMARY OF POINTS MADE IN THIS VIDEO:
PROS:
1. So many fun things to do! Parks, beaches, weird and wonderful attractions, museums, etc.
2. Opportunities to meet and befriend lots of like-minded people
3. The weather is great 75% of the time. Winter cold temps can get down into the 40s, but usually very mild.
4. Affordability factor. Depends on where you're coming from and when you move, but you could save a lot of money on property.
CONS:
1. You lose the "vacation" feeling because you're surrounded by it all the time... you have to work... even when friends visit...
2. Traffic. Bad traffic. Bad drivers. Bad roads. Loads of areas under construction. So many lost tourists. Drivers can be aggressive and rude. Commute times 1H+
3. Weather is too hot and humid 25% of the time (although you do adjust to it eventually). It rains hard almost daily for 20-30 minutes at 4pm through the summer...
4. The biggest 'con' is the rising cost of living, and especially the fact that local pay rates aren't keeping up with rising costs. Best if you can transfer with your job and keep your existing salary
Great summary!
As a fellow Floridian (Southwest Florida) and a world traveler including all 50 states and all major cities I can tell you in a nutshell the traffic issues here in Florida especially in tourist areas. If you go to Chicago, NYC, Detroit, LA, etc., traffic is chaotic but mostly locals who kinda do the chaos in sync! Then ALL of those folks travel to Orlando and have no clue how to be in sync with each other! But with all that “patience is a virtue” so just chill and know it can never be fixed (😀). Rain and weather? Well Florida is a land full of water and heat and I’m sure you knew that before you moved here and both of those things attract millions of snowbirds each year to bask gloriously in the Sunshine State! Thank you for sharing and enjoy the journey! 🤙
We've learned that recently in Chicago too. Hehe
It’s been a year and a half! My goodness I remember your moving video! Time certainly flys by.
It really has. Thanks for sticking with us, Brad!
Thank you for this video. Great to share with us! I love Orlando and have a dream to live there, but it's important to know the cons, too. I'm from Brazil...😊
@@AustinGaspar it’s a big change from having freezing weather
@@AustinGaspar how much hot do you mean?
Great info!!!
Thanks goodness you finally drank the tea! Cracked me up how you kept grabbing the handle and then not drinking it lol.
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a Brit, me and my husband agree that if you lived in Florida, you wouldn’t get the same excitement if you lived there compared to being on holiday there. I will be on my 7th trip to Orlando in October. We love coming over whenever we can afford to do it.
It loses a little luster when you're there all the time. We'll be there later this year for the first time in quite a while and are more excited to see our friends and do things there.
Thank you guys for posting this 👍
No problem 👍
Thank you for this video! My husband and I (5he two Brandon's) are moving there next month for the love of the sun, and Disney!
Nice! Good luck on the move!
Planning on moving to the sunshine state 2-3 years from now. By that time, pandemic should be over.
Hopefully traffic isn't bad in the Tampa, Sarasota, saint Petersburg areas. Those are the places I'm highly considered moving to.
The traffic in those areas is much better. We would recommend that unless you're really there for the theme parks otherwise it's going to be most likely cheaper and less traffic.
Traffic is HORRENDOUS in Tampa-St. Pete-Clearwater......except maybe between 11PM - 5AM.
Excellent information thanks so much
You're welcome.
I know this is an old video, but still interesting! (Im watching through your back catalogue!)
We moved to Cornwall UK 5 years ago because my wife is Cornish and wanted to be near her family. Lots of the pros and cons are similar. You learn to leave the house early to go anywhere - traffic and parking are insane in the summer. And we found the same with money. People think it’s like being on one long holiday, but those ice creams and lunches out add up. And you don’t always have time to do holiday things because you have to earn money - like I heard someone say once, you can’t eat the view!
Working isn’t too bad for us - I work from home and finish at 3, my wife is a teacher so she has school holidays off. And we get to go to the beach whenever we want. Sunsets and breezy walks are a few minutes down the road. There are definitely benefits.
Something very different here is the weather though. I’m a city girl - the weather on the Atlantic coast is brutal! Winters are long, but there is that moment in early September when all the tourists have gone and there is often a warm spell, so all the locals get to enjoy the beaches without the crowds. ❤
I lived in Orlando in the early 1990's. The traffic was bad even then but nothing like now! Lol! I did enjoy living there! I lived just off Goldenrod by Colonial Drive back then. I live in St Augustine FL now where the traffic is doable for now. Living in a town that is a tourist destination is always a love/hate situation.
Very true! Thanks for sharing!
We just found your channel, I’m excited to start watching! We’re huge Disney parks nerds, WDW and DL APs. We’re wanting to move to the Orlando area in the next few years, and we’re from Hillsboro, Oregon. Im excited to see what you guys do
That's awesome! Thanks for checking us out!
Oh man! I’m moving down to Florida from New York this summer, and now I’m a bit nervous 😩. I definitely had those cons in my mind but it hit different after watching this video.
Good luck!! There's still a lot to love about being down here. There's cons of living everywhere.
It’s hot af, I can’t wait to get out
It is hot, but you adjust after a while. I moved down from the Bronx 5 years ago and we’re still here. I love beaches and water in general so there are plenty of ways to stay cool and have fun with pools/beaches. Not having seasons gets weird but again, it’s an adjustment. Good luck with the move!
No cons in Orlando except the wages
@@Daddysports79 l'm from the BX too and plan on moving in 4-5 years.
First time on your channel. This 47 year old Olaf obsessed Disney fan would love to end up in Orlando by the time I turn 55.
If you can dream it you can do it! 😉
Hello from Tampa! Great video Thanks for the tips!
You are so welcome! Thanks for checking it out!
Hello, there!! What it is to live in Tampa? Thanks
Video is on point (moved here from St Louis). It took me a couple years to read other drivers and detect tourist drivers and predict that they will swerve over 4 lanes to get to their exit, haha. Winter weather is amazing here, I'm now used to FL weather and get chilly below 80F. Costs are definitely going up, I moved further away from Orlando for affordability, just have to deal with I4 (thunderdome) commute now.
Awesome! I had moved here from St. Louis - North County, right off of I-270 back in 2017 and I love it here in Orlando!! I can't see myself living Anywhere else in the USA, but here. Planning to Relocate to South Africa within a few years, but I will always keep a house here in Orlando.
Yeah, we start to get chilly in the 70's now too. Jeans and long sleeves when we would have been in shorts in Washington.
Thanks for your insight. Greatly appreciate it.
I lived in Florida close to 9 years ago and it was so affordable and I am planning on moving back, and I was amazed how much more expansive it has gotten. Unfortunately, jobs don't reflect that.
Glad it was helpful! The job situation versus cost of living doesn't seem to be great right now.
Hello Magic Geekdom. The wife and I and our three boys are moving to Orlando area in 12 days. Thank you for your video. We are moving from Colorado. We looked at Winter Garden but decided on Clermont as its even further away from all the tourism/traffic and we love the hills. I am originally from Los Angeles and was a big Disneyland, Beach, warmer weather kid. After being in Colorado for 25 years and never liking the snow, winters or skiing, I convinced my wife to move to Florida. We are so excited. I think I already took into consideration the pros and cons that you mentioned. I definitely didnt want to be to close to I-4 and I drive but Clermont is only 30 minutes away from WDW and thats way better than where we are now in CO. LOL Looking forward to spending more time with other Disney Geeks. I was like you, telling my coworkers that I was going to Disneyland or WDW again and they just looked at me weird, preferring to go to Mexico and drink cheap beer. Not my thing. We will get Gold passes and live it up when we arrive. And I am bringing my nice CO paycheck with me as I know that the pay down there is bad. Thanks for the VID.
that is another pro good thing about Florida everything is close to a major highway and distances are not that far .You really are not that far from anything.
Thank you, Matt! We hope you are enjoying it here even in this weird time. Clermont is really nice and not too far from things once it starts getting back to normal.
Great to see you guys again. So your positive and negatives seem to be similar, being near theme parks are great but then the traffic because you live near them is bad. The weather is great but then again not so great at times. I moved to Florida over 20 years ago from NYC and I would say more pros than cons for me. I do however get homesick for things that are just not as good down here as they are up there. See ya next time!
Thanks, Joe! I agree, I (Jeremy) don't miss places as much as I miss people and some food that we can't get here. The summer can be a bit rough, but we don't miss snow.
Good video! And your makeup looks great Cara
Thank you so much!!
We'll be moving there in about 2 yrs and can't wait. We're used to crazy traffic and drivers and construction every where living in Houston, TX. One advantage we'll have, is we'll be retired and can go anytime to the parks. That is one thing about getting older, retirement! Thanks for the info!
Thanks for watching, Susan! Houston definitely can have some traffic. We learned that on our way to Florida. Hope you love it when you get here!
I miss the camilians and the salamanders that ran across the front of our house and across the carport. My Grandpa taught me that if you see them, just catch them, and gently hold them and rub their chin. They will fall asleep for you. Then when you're done just release them and they will walk away more calm. And that's how you tame them. Those little lizards are awesome! 🥰
About the rain on the summer time....
because the clouds sit so low in the sky, it could be raining in front of our house and then it's bone-dry out back! And yes, even in the 70's & 80's it rained every day. But still, because there was spots over the Land the rain would miss alot for days, everyone was still allowed to use sprinklers on their lawns to preserve the grass. But all that changed just before we moved back up north in 1984 (I was just a teenager then). A law became in affect where you could no longer use water sprinklers on your lawn. Now, 37 years later when I google our old address, I cringe a lot! Most of the grass around that neighborhood is all dead now. It's so sad!!!
We lived at 6301 Hillwood Drive; Orlando, 32809. Take a peek on Google at the neighborhood and look at the tree my (late) mom planted out in front of the house. It's all unkept and sloppy!
I'm so sad! 😥🥺🥵😪😟😭
We've never tried to catch the lizards, but they are kind of cute.
Everyone coming here needs to learn Spanish! I've lived in Kissimmee sense 1980 and the cost of living is to high now and with no tourism Florida is a sinking ship but it's still a good place for anyone who's retired or has an income. People now are selling their homes and buying RV'S to cut costs. One good thing also is the number of food pantries so everyone will have food to eat! Welcome to the new Florida!
We've seen the cost of living increase significantly just since we've been here - and it was already starting to get expensive before we moved.
That background music is amazing! I lived in Orlando for a HOT minute 2010-2012. I visited last October 2019 and was shocked how much new development. Kinda wanna move back but I like my pay in Atlanta lol
Yeah, we have some friends we really love in Atlanta and have considered that as a next possible place to live after Florida.
I live in Woodstock GA, A bit North from the city and love it!
Love the video! Thank you for sharing your experience. Mind me asking where did you guys relocate from?
We relocated from Portland, OR.
Love that you have a Vertigo poster!!
Thanks! It's a great film.
Florida winters are the best. I-4 is a nightmare (the rebuild started 5 years before you moved!). Keep me in mind when you need advice for your 1st hurricane. Great video!
Will do! Thanks, Bob.
Sounds like lots of east coast drivers down there! I’m from Boston my husband and I just got the official word we’re moving end of may! I’m excited and nervous but more so excited. Love your videos!!
Oh wow! Glad to hear that you're excited! There's a lot of great reasons to be down here.
You two are so cute, you guys look at each other a lot and it shows you truly love each other's company. #relationshipgoals
Awe thank you!
You forgot to mention the amazing outdoor activities there are to do like Wekiva Springs State Park and Lake Louisa State Park or the West Orange Trail or the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. Amazing places in nature to see the beautiful and unique wildlife the Florida has to offer.
Good call! We need to check out more of those things!
So true!
You two are adorable, I’ve just subscribed °o°
Yay! Thank you!
Does Orlando have any backroads or is mostly crowded highways?
There are totally back roads too.
Great video! We moved here from Virginia last August 2019 and we love it here. Our transition has been ok. The weather is fine with us coming from Virginia. Prior to VA were living in NY so it was more of a transition moving to VA from NY. I think it’s beautiful here, the scenery, the wildlife, the weather is so beautiful. The cost of living is .....ok like you guys say depending on where you moved from. We live out in Polk County, Winter Haven bear LEGO land and I think it’s a bit costly here for this county. We are an hour away from Tampa and an hour away from Orlando. So I think the cost of living should be lower and the jobs in our county don’t pay well, not sure about your county but pays horrible and lack of jobs in Winter Haven area. People drive kinda slow here in our county compared to others probably because more older people are in our county so the driving in Polk isn’t that bad....jobs however aren’t the best. It’s like really a “country” feel out here, like you can truly tell you’re in the “Deep South”. Again we are from VA so it’s similar in comparison but surely different vibe Than living in Tampa or Orlando. Some of the “Florida Natives” and you can tell a Native form a mile away , well they aren’t that friendly I find. I love when I come across other transplants like myself. We usually just click but the natives aren’t as friendly to us. Another con I find is the insurance rates are very high, car registration fees are high also. I think you guys did a great video explaining the pros and cons. I totally agree with you guys. We haven’t even had a chance to visit Orlando yet. I’m afraid to drive there due to the traffic lol but we gotta visit soon. :)
Muriel Perez great info! Thinking of moving from miami and trying to do my ‘research.’ Wanting to move to a family friendly / great schools and close to parks.
You gotta make it up here. Most of our friends are transplants as well, but we met most of them through UA-cam, so that is less surprising.
There are a lot of nice places, but you've gotta do your research.
My husband and I are from Long Island ny. We moved to Virginia 7 years ago. We are looking into moving down to the Orlando area. My husband drives fuel trucks. It looks like there are more opportunities down in Orlando for that. It definitely looks like the housing is more pricey in the Orlando area.
I lived in New Port Richey Area many years ago (I am from the UK) I loved it there. We are moving back this time to Orlando soon. OK, one thing I noticed about living in FL is that nearly everyone who lives in FL is NOT FROM Florida! whilst that may seem you have something in common with them it loses the 'small town' 'looking out for each other' kinda thing. I felt people were more suspicious of each other and protective as they were all strangers? Great place though. If you join a church you get to know people quicker and they tend to be the more friendly or helpful kind.
You have some good points there. Thanks for watching the video!
Thanks for the info, moving to altamont springs next year, can’t wait.. coming from CT
Good luck!
Also moving to this location in October. Winter park, beautiful. Just bought a home there, and looking forward to the move. Moving from northeast pa. Originally from Brooklyn, ny. My town has 27 camps, and is a tourist town, so I’m used to strangers, poor drivers, and slow movers with that “I’m on vacation” attitude. Can’t wait.
Altamonte Springs! Hope you like traffic....
My husband and I are planning on moving in during August from CA. I’m nervous but excited
Can you come post back here and let me know how it’s going after you get all settled in? Lol. I’m from CA as well but live in Colorado now. Need to get away from cold weather.
Thank you so much for all of this Info! We are planning on making the “big move” to Orlando from Kentucky (move #29, yay!) next summer, due to my hubby’s new army reserve station in Pinellas Park! I practically live at Disney and Universal anyway, so I’m so happy to be moving closer. It will definitely be an adjustment price wise (rent in Kentucky is about $700 for a nice condo, and we pay $900 in mortgage).
Thank you and good luck with your move! The price was an adjustment for us, even coming from an area that is more expensive, but it sounds like other than that it should be a good move for you. Thanks for watching!
thank you. i appreciate that you don’t put any adds in your videos :)
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
Yes already the disney shirts
What are the fastpass going for at Disney know off-hand I just arrived today
I don't know, sorry. We are out of the Disney loop these days. 😩
From a weather perspective, you guys are becoming real Floridians. I live 30 min from Orlando and I think I have used the heat 2x this year. I might remember one or two nights in the 40s, but that’s it!
That is awesome!
They drive like lunatics! I had a 6 mile commute to work in Jacksonville it's like being on a Nascar track🤪😜
Some people can be pretty crazy!
The humidity doesn’t get better. Singed a native Floridian.
You do learn to tolerate it more. Hehe
Am just watching this video now. We’re looking to move there. I’m from Jersey that traffic you speak of is something I’ve dealt with everyday since I’ve been driving. Lol.
That's fair. 😂😁
Had to watch and get your take on this because you know Tom wants to live there when he retires. I told him I would live part of the year there, but I'm not completely leaving my beautiful NC mountains.
That totally makes sense. It's nice here, but I don't think we're staying here forever. We still need to see NC.
@@TheMagicGeekdom Where do you think you would want to live out the rest of your lives together if not Florida?
Interesting pros and cons Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Yes traffic is hell here in Orlando but I still love here
There's a lot of cool things here too.
I agree with you on the traffic but to me it's more like when I was a truck driver in L.A. for 5 yrs. it can be bad. Now..I leave home in Hillsboro at noon and have to take hwy 26 to Swan Island for work...25 mins top and when I get off work at 1 am..same amount of time (hardly any traffic). So when I move to FL I'm worried about the time it would take me to get to work so I don't want to be more than 30 mins drive with 30 mins extra in case of bad traffic. What I don't foresee is the tourist traffic....not ready to face it. But when I move I'll have to make adjustments as you guys did. As for driving to the beach...Orlando is like Portland and Seaside is like to Daytona beach....1.5 hrs drive??? I was in seaside Sept 4 ..friday..trying to go surfing and I HATE COLD water and sure enough it was cold once again. 58 degrees...I google Jacksonville beach water temp and it was 85'. OMG...I can't wait to move!
We haven't really spent time in Jacksonville, but we have friends that live there and really enjoy it. We'll hopefully check it out at some point soon.
GOOD VIDEO, THANKS. 👍👌
Thanks for watching!
Small world. So glad we chatted!!!
Sorry for the later response, but we're glad we talked more too!
Love your videos. Wife and I live in Portland. We were just down in Orlando last week and you are right about the drivers. Never seen anything like it. We were thinking of maybe making a move there but drivers changed that idea real quick. Too bad really as it seems like a fun place to live. Just not worth risking my life. :)
Hahaha. It's not quite life risking, but it's been pretty bad at times.
I love Florida! I go there lots of time!
So cool!
We’ve been looking at moving to Florida for a while now for a lot of reasons, but this is our first time visiting and I can’t get over how much I love it. I’ve never seen your channel before so I’m not sure where you came from but I’m from Denver and living in Salt Lake City and as far as traffic and commuting goes, this is like heaven compared to either of those cities. Except for how many toll roads there are. I’ve almost never had to deal with Toll roads so the whole toll system confuses me
Glad you're enjoying it. Jeremy is actually from the Salt Lake City area originally too.
Good video 👍🏻
I’ve been lucky to not experience bad traffic on our trips down, at least it didn’t feel bad to me lol but those drivers sound like the drivers up here, especially the closer to the city you get. People will run you off the road, drive on the shoulder, cut through grass etc. up here 😂 overall though I’m not looking forward to the horror stories of the traffic there lol The affordability is our biggest fear. From our research it seems like it will be a wash for us. Some things are higher but some are much lower. My fiancé is lucky enough to have a decent job here so we are nervous about his transfer options/him making much less there. I’m still hopeful though & we’re still working towards the move down! It’ll just be a wild adventure I suppose! 😁 I hope you both are doing well, hopefully Florida gets easier for you guys 💖
Thanks, Sammi. It sounds like can be crazy there too. Hopefully, you can make your way down it that's what you want.
btw...can you compare your time in seasonal activities in the PNW that can be done in FL? I love Portland's lighting of the Christmas tree, Love Pumpkin patches in North Plains and Sauvie Island but don't know if FL can duplicate things like that. Cinco de Mayo....The Bite.....Brewfest....alot of things here but not seeing it in FL.
At least around Orlando you're not really going to find a pumpkin patch. Which is a little sad. The Celebration neighborhoods have a lot of holiday activities that go on though. Downtown Orlando also has some pretty cool festivals.
Hello! I just found your channel and was excited to see this video! I have always wanted to move to Florida and I myself am also a fellow Oregonian (currently in Eugene). I've only been to Florida for vacation so I'm concerned about if I could hack it since I'm used to west coast weather. Unfortunately finding job opportunities is hard because no one wants to consider you when you're on the other side of the US :( eventually I will get there though. Thank you for sharing these! Very helpful!
Your're welcome!! Finding a job can be rough, but I would recommend finding one before you move. We didn't and I would say that was our biggest mistake. We made it through, but it would have been much easier if we had that taken care of.
Hi,
on average, for a single person like myself. How much do you guys think I should be able to save to move to the Orlando area? I'm hoping to move by the end of this year or sometime next year.
I think we saved 5K or 6K, but we also made our trip across the country.
I moved to the Inland NW and it's just so smokey in the summer and I miss the Coast and just the warmth! Considering FL
I went back to WA for a couple weeks over the summer. It was so smokey and I was so sad to see all of the trees burned from the heat wave. 😩
that's so funny that you say that bc I live on the beach too and when the tourists come down and they are in the beach at like windy 70° I'm like hell nahh that is too cold for me I'll wait until it's like 90 and it feels good to get in bc it's so hot I have to 😂 or when they have shorts on at like 60,nope ✌. That's when you know your a Florida girl lol
Also I'm sure you guys are loving the weather right now,its finally cooling off and the mornings and evenings are the perfect time for a hot cup of coffee in the mornings or a nice glass of wine in the evenings on the patio 🙏 finally goodbye to the muggy 😂enjoy it while it lasts !
One thing I feel like you guys missed is fresh seafood if you like seafood or the food in general is so diverse
Fall is maybe the best season aside from the possibility of hurricanes. It starting to cool down has been nice indeed!
My husband and I are seriously considering moving to the Orlando area from DFW in Texas. we just got back from vacation and fall more in love with the area every time we are there. We would rent an apartment for the first year or so until we get our footing of where we want to be in the area and buy a house. DFW is just rising fast in population in the area we live in so the traffic wouldn’t really bother us because it wouldn’t really be much of a change.
Hope it works out for you!
I am a new subscriber. I luv the vibes, retiring this summer, want to move to Orlando. Can you do a video for seniors moving to Kissimmee/Orlando?
We'll look at putting together a video about that. Thanks for subscribing!
Many exclusive areas just for senior living down here.
Hi guys! Thanks for this video! How can you describe nightlife in Orlando?
Orlando has a great nightlife. It might not be as exciting as places like Miami, but there are a variety of options and I think it's pretty booming because of all of the tourism (although maybe not so much right now).
@@TheMagicGeekdom if there’s bars I’m in! Thank you!
Downtown Orlando is your place then. Besides the fact that everything shuts down after 2am, nightlife isn’t bad at all here. I’m not gonna lie, if you don’t care for theme parks, Orlando is pretty boring, but the bars downtown are very cool.
Thank you for this video. I am curious if you could share if you moved from Portland Oregon or Portland Maine. I ask because I currently live in Maine and am considering moving to Orlando.
It was Portland, OR We do have a friend that lives in the area that moved from Portland, Maine
Portland misses you! Voodoo donuts 🍩
I use to live in Orlando but moved to Raleigh, NC when my mom passed away. I'm originally from Philadelphia, but lived in Orlando for most of my life. I kinda miss it, but then again I don't. I had a serious shock of my life when I went to visit family after a year and seeing all the new construction and how crowded it was getting. The rent also went up ALOT. If y'all haven't been to Bubbalous, if you love BBQ you must try them!
It's growing so fast including the cost of living.
@@TheMagicGeekdom Yep, but low pay remains the same!
Atlanta was the same way. Rent was expensive, pay was low, employers sucked and so did the traffic. It was a cesspool.
I love Florida always nice
Us too!
thank you for mentioning pets and lighteing my dog is so afraid of it! he shakes under the bed.
You are so welcome! Our poor little girl does the same thing depending on how bad it gets.

I am currently 16 years old and I am thinking about living to Florida because I have similar feelings about Disney/Universal and I am so excited and I just wanna know why do you do for job wise?
looks good
Getting ready to make the jump from Chicago to Orlando.....
Definitely nervous
That's so exciting! Definitely understand the nervousness, but I think you'll be ok! Good luck! ❤
@@TheMagicGeekdom
Thankyou. It's just difficult leaving Chicago. But. Orlando is a beautiful place and Disney is so close.
@@Sammydx1 to be fair you won't miss the crime rate orlando is much lower on the list of crime
Wait so is portland really more expensive then orlando!?!? Im about to move there from orlando and thought it would be more expensive
Portland is much more expensive
Eric is correct.
I live in Portland and it definitely is, I’ll be moving to Orlando next year just for a year to try it out. I feel like you get your money’s worth better in MCO regarding in housing than PDX.
My cousin is paying $1700 for a 1 bedroom apartment in Portland, Portland is extremely expensive right up there with Seattle, always raining and gloomy! Lots of homeless people out there..Lots
I live twenty minutes outside Portland and it is super expensive to live in Portland! That’s why we are moving to Orlando
Traffic changed a lot up here last couple years gotten so bad. Like you said it can be where your going time and more so in big city. If we ever make it out there I won’t drive lol 😂also prices everywhere if your renting is about the same everywhere I’m remote.now and I was hoping that we’d be able to move back to Oregon. But remote so new for us we can’t move far from office. Maybe one day we’ll see. Good vlog
Thanks! Good luck on your possible journey back to Oregon.
The Magic Geekdom thanks I don’t think will happen if does will be long time from now. Our main boss doesn’t like idea of remote.shes came in after was established.
The Humidity is inhumane. You can't leave the house from April-October without sweating.
You're not wrong.
@@TheMagicGeekdom It's Puerto Rican weather basically
Texas is the same way lol
snowbird here - work in florida during the michigan winters and let me tell you i love the fact that floridians know how to fricken drive - hold my beer and watch this - just get out of the way and get to where you are going - i swear most people in florida are from michigan ....HAHAHAHAHA gas is on the right and goes all the way to the floor no lines just lights LETS GIT IT !
LOL I have to admit I am not against the part where everyone drives really fast, it's the lack of kindness on the road that I still struggle with. 😆
I have been living here for over 15 yrs and I am still on vacation mode. The first year we lived here we got anual passes and did all the Disney stuff so I am Disney out. The beaches are absolutely amazing. The west side beaches are better than the east coast IMO just because the water is warm all year around. And the weather is amazing! Traffic is tricky here, if you don’t live in Orlando. Don’t work in Orlando. You will spend a lot of time in traffic. I live in the Disney are and to make it to an appointment in Orlando I have to factor in the traffic for 1.5 hrs drive even if it is 30 minutes. As far as the cost of life here, towards the Disney are it can be pricey, away from Disney is more affordable. In the summer it rains for 15 minutes but the rain in the summer is very predictable. Still love living here! The thing that sucks is having to work on weekends because there is so much to do.
Sounds like you pretty much have it down to a science though. 😀
If you're afraid of the traffic, you should see Buenos Aires!! There's actally an study that measures how much time ir passes between the time the traffic light turns to green and the time the first honking ... Guess what? Buenos Aires is the first city in the world in that measure... Driver's anxiety is too high down here!! I'll look how Orlando shows up on that study
Whoa, that does sound intense. Maybe we don't want to drive in Buenos Aires!
Hey guys! Really enjoyed the video and seeing more of the city I just moved to! Came here from California and looking to also meet more like minded people. Do you have any tips for opportunities to meet new people? Looking to create a great circle of friends in the area!
Most of our friends were other people that did UA-cam stuff, so that might not be so helpful.
Thanks so much for making this video. I've been seriously considering making the jump to Orlando. How would someone who just moved there meet other Disney fans to hang out with like you did?
Glad it was helpful! There are facebook groups and other places you can meet people, but we've also met other Disney fans in random places like the grocery store.
You mentioned the traffic as a con but it’s better than what I experience everyday. I’ve driven around Orlando while on vacation and it was much easier to drive around than the Dallas area and we don’t have tourists to deal with so that says something. Where I currently work is only about 20 minutes away but the traffic makes it closer to an hour and it’s not even rush hour, just regular traffic and sometimes using back roads which aren’t always faster because they don’t always go where they should. It’s worse if I need to go north of the city where it can be up to 2 hours if you don’t leave early in the morning.
If I move to Orlando I’ll actually be getting a better commute.
Traffic is bad where I'm from, but I also wasn't used to East Coast drivers. It's hard for me to not have road rage in Florida and I think that's where a lot of my distaste for driving in Orlando stems from. I've only driven in Dallas once and I do remember that taking toll roads saved us a lot of time. I probably would have done that in Orlando if there were ones on my commute.
@@TheMagicGeekdom Tolls don’t help me at all here. I’ve gone to Frisco for pleasure and it’s about 43 miles, the same as going from Universal Studios to Legoland, and even though the quickest way is to use the Dallas North Tollway it takes longer than the drive to Legoland does and half of that route is on regular roads with stoplights to contend with. For a more comparable one time wise it’s like going from Port Canaveral to Tampa.
I actually have a Sunpass because of the toll roads I’ve had to use on vacation thanks to the Turnpike along with 528 and 417 because my dad is a truck driver and the yard he would drop the truck off was in the Southchase/Flamingo area near MCO, exactly halfway between those two toll roads, it was easier to use those roads than sit through so many lights. It’s helped save time on vacation not having to stop and dig out exact coinage for the tolls.
Either way I’ve experienced better traffic in LA... with tons of construction (more than the I4 improvements by Universal)... at Christmas... during evening rush hour when going from Universal Studios Hollywood to Disneyland, about 35 miles, than I do going to work on a normal sunny day, things get worse when it’s just a little moist like a Florida afternoon shower.
Other examples of better traffic were in Chicago and Jersey/NYC. If I did have to say which place had the best traffic conditions I’d say either LA or Orlando.
Hi!!! So I live in Jacksonville, Florida and Iam moving to Orlando in 2 weeks. I totally agree with all things you guys have said in this video. I’ve been visiting the area for about 2 years consistently visiting friends/family. Iam coming to the area with a job via transfer. I’ve noticed it’s hard getting a job there!! Iam new grad. I’ve been trying to get into AdventHealth and furthering my education in healthcare. I’ve interviewed 4 times and have been declined each time. It’s pretty frustrating. It’s VERY expensive in Orlando if you are renting compared to Jacksonville. It’s definitely a sacrifice to live there :(.
I’m moving to Orlando for Family, Friends and of course Disney!!!
Well, we hope it all works out for you.
I like the coast myself. Orlando is great to visit because there's so much to do, but I gotta be closer to the beach.
We really need to spend more time at the beaches!
Sorry to see disney close, we love coming to orlando. We have just lost £9000 on are trip in April ,but that will be nothing comperared to the thousands of people that will lose the jobs in orlando in the next few months
We're sorry about your trip. Hope that you could get most of your money back. We're just waiting it out to see what happen.
@@TheMagicGeekdom HI no we have not got any money back and the ticket agent has said they will only give us 80% back for the tickets ,but that was 3 weeks ago ,we can not get them to reply to are emails .The cost of off the hole hoilday was 16000 pounds and looks like we will lose all of it
would love to live in orlando. i imagine it has plenty of jobs in the town. im not caught up with disney or the theme parks. but i do love the beaches. which would be great. most beach towns dont have a lot of work or pay fair. living in orlando would be a great opportunity to take the 2 hour drive to the east coast and hit a beach on the weekend. plus i would love to help out family and friends with a place to stay while down in florida. save them 100-300 bucks per night on a hotel by staying with me. i bet the greatest negative would be the constant running the a/c system and the utility bills.
INDIANA FLORIDA same looking for Apts
Honestly if you're more into the beaches than the parks ans such I'd consider Tampa or other areas too. It's less expensive, but still pretty close to all the parks for friends and fam.
The wages are despicable, other than that excellent city to live in
Hi there. I just found y’all. New subscriber. I’m a Disney Geek too. I understand what you say about getting Disney. When I say I’m going to Disney and my friend says again. My thought is some people just don’t get it. Lol. I understand the traffic there. Ugh! I-4. I am moving there in the next year. I’m beyond ready. I hate how we have to get a reservation now to go to a park. Has that been a issue for y’all ? I enjoyed your talk. Thanks .,
Thanks for watching! We actually left Florida and haven't been to Disney since the reservation system, so we can't really speak to that. Good luck with your move!
My wife wants to move to OL from NYC. I love hunting fishing not into disney world but I do love beaches. I need a to find a nice beach house though. Just remembered your buy next to the beach 😪
There definitely is a lot of fishing here.
Other than my being super jealous of your proximity to WDW, I don’t miss Fla AT ALL!
I’m not a fan of stewing in my own juices. Blech! Nor do I miss it taking 30-40 minutes to go 10 miles.
I do so miss Disney tho...
“Sigh”
Love ya’ll!! ❤️❤️
We're glad you're happy in you're spot now! Hopefully, we'll get to see you next time you are down here. We love ya too!
Where did you guys move? My wife and I live with our 3 kids in south fla and are considering Orlando or Charlotte NC
I hate the sweltering summers in here.
Does the rain cool things off at all?
It can, but it doesn't always.
@@TheMagicGeekdom Thanks. Is crime a problem if you're careful?
The pay is the biggest reason why I left, I worked for the state of Florida and I was barely getting by now I work for the state of California and making double doing the same thing.
Thanks for the info. That sounds about right!
Interesting how you speak with question marks and doubts. So I just say that since Orlando has become very popular the prices has also risen having to do with supply and demand. Also we traded snow for rain cuz we do enjoy a milder weather. and also you cannot splurge the way you used to because this is not vacation you here. And traffic sucks because there are too many people and the road. I think that sums it up.
You are not wrong.
I’m listening to you talk about cost of living and traffic while I’m laughing to myself in my San Francisco apartment
That's fair if you're living in San Francisco.
Do you feel like the honeymoon is over? Would you ever move back to Portland?
Yeah, the honeymoon is over. There are things that are great in Florida though. We might end up back in the Pacific Northwest at some point, but I don't think it's our next move.
My family and me are moving next year to Orlando and we can't wait. We live in Oakland, CA and this place is a sh**ithole u haven't seen expensive living or horrendous driving until u come to oakland good lord Florida has so much to offer Orlando is beautiful so excited
The Oakland and San Francisco area is really expensive. If you have a good job to move with you'll probably be in good shape coming here.
Good video. Recently visited Ocala, (which isn't even a big city), and the traffic was awful. Not so much the amount of traffic, but the roads were poorly designed, resulting in people not being able to merge reasonably. The drivers were unbelievably aggressive. Every time we got in the car, I felt like we were putting our lives on the line. People were so nice when we were in restaurants and stores, but as soon as we got in the car, they morphed into psychos. That will be a huge adjustment for me, because where we live right now, it's a pleasure driving around.
One of the CONS.......Florida is VERY rainy.
Well, sometimes but not that bad where it's a con. Sometimes it's random but, it's not a thunderstorm every night. 😊😊😊😊🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
True.
In the summer you do get one almost everyday in the afternoon though.
We have an annual rainfall total bigger than Seattle’s by an inch or two.
are the bugs as bad or not so bad compared to residents who live in or near remotely to the Marshlands?
It depends where you are, but overall they really aren't as bad as we thought they would be when we moved here.

James Knight's motive to move to ORLANDO.
For me, Orlando is ideal because it's either Marine Biology and Exotic Cars-and I don't mean Ford Mustangs. With names like Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Spyker, Alpha Romea etc... I can go on and on...
Living in what's known as Walmartville/Pleasantville (ua-cam.com/video/7IkQadc3mZM/v-deo.html),
I open my mouth and people look at me like I speak French. But if you ask one from Nebraska about the corn- they'll talk your ears off. See my pun/point?
Ultimately, even for an international US citizen, I don't belong in my current area of residence.
It only became racially diverse beginning from 2008.
After my second Floridian adventure, my heart broke the moment we crossed the border heading West.
