- Fifty years ago on October 6, 1973, Egypt and Syria launched a coordinated surprise attack against Israeli forces in the Sinai Peninsula and Golan Heights.
The war, among other factors, ultimately led to the 1978 Camp David Accords, which saw Israel withdraw from Sinai in return for normalisation of relations with Egypt.
A peace treaty signed a year later marked the first time an Arab nation had recognised Israel.
Al Jazeera’s Hoda Abdel-Hamid reports.

@@anshuraj4277how did they loose just cuz Israel crossed the canal doesn’t mean Egypt lost if not for the cease fire the army that crossed to the Egyptian side was gonna get whipped out that’s why they accepted the ceasefire and accepted to give the land back for Egypt the whole crossing thing was only done for propaganda to make idiots like you think they won but in fact their supply line was way too long and they were gonna loose it for sure and all their army that crossed was gonna get whipped out they tried to get inside the suez city and conquer it but they couldn’t and they were trapped outside of it and they became trapped between the city and the 3rd Egyptian army behind them all what Egypt had to do is order the 3rd army to cross back and crush the Israeli soldiers they lost even tho their weapons were way more advanced than the Egyptians

Actually Israel lost the war but US helped Israel and averted shameful defeat.

Is that the reason why the Arabs begged for Soviet intervention? They defeated Syria, which made absolutely no gains, and Egypt, although they managed to regain the Sinai.

If you are referring to US military hardware- yes, Israel got that. And the Arab world was armed to the teeth by the USSR. Israel ultimately won since they are better organized, motivated, and significantly smarter than Egypt and Syria

I wish to state the Israelites (Jews) , Syrians, Lebanese Egyptians and Arabs in general are genetic brothers. Most of them are descendants of the patriarch Abraham. Jews have lived in Damascus, Aleppo, and other Syrian communities for thousands of years. Jews lived in Egyept, Lebanon, and several Arab countries for centuries. I PRAY THAT A SOLUTION IS FOUND SO THAT THEY CAN LIVE TOGETHER PEACEFULLY.

@@masteraction1239 no Donkey king went to Jerusalem and told Golda Mayor about the impending attack then never came to the fight and that was why Egypt had to go deeper into Israel and lost air cover which eventually led to Israeli victory !
My father was posted in Damascus as. PAF commanding officer as this happened. We left first for Pakistan and then. Few weeks later he returned!

That's reason why there are occupied territories in Palestine today. Some people talk about respect for UN resolutions on Palestine, but we must remember Arabs didn't respected resolution N°1 on the creation of Israel. So there were eight wars all victories to Israel.

Again, the only thing Egypt could ever aspire back then was to recovering land lost in the '67 and no more, which it traded in exchange for a permanent peace that created enemies among its own Arab "brothers". But yeah, "at least" they got that done. Otherwise they would be remembered as the Syrians and the rest of the Arabs are today: for having lost twice.

Egypt was defeated and the evidence is that the Israeli Cross Canal destroyed Egyptian air defence and trapped the Egyptian third division of around 30- 40 thousand without food on the west bank 4th division raised the white flag and surrender was totally defeated. Israeli cut off Cairo road or Israelis were just 60 km from Cairo which brought President Anwar Sadad to the negotiating table and accepted the existence of Israel as a Jewish state. In retaliation, Arab Sadad was assassinated because he had accepted a peace treaty with Israel. Forget South Lebanon, West Bank and Golan highest and the Gaza Strip were under Israeli. The truth is Arabs were defeated again even though Israelis had casualties and 200 war prisoners and Arabs were on more than 6 thousand prisoners of war and casualties above 10 thousand that is the truth. What is reported that the Israelis were defeated is a big lie

The Golan Heights were intended to be part of the Mandate for Palestine, but due to British and French machination they were excluded in 1922 and the area was recognized as falling under the Mandate for Syria in contravention to article 5 of the Mandate for Palestine which stipulated that ". . . no Palestine territory shall be ceded or leased to, or in any way placed under the control of the Government of any foreign power."
Syria, controlled the Golan Height only for 21 years (1946-1967); from 1948 until 1967, Syria would use its vantage point to attack Israeli villages in the Galilee region. In June 1967, Israeli forces captured the Golan Heights in the Six-Day War and Israeli military law was subsequently applied to the region.
In 1981, Israel passed the Golan Heights Law extending Israeli law and administration throughout the territory.
Know that Israel’s connection to the Golan Heights is traced back to the Bible. The Golan is the biblical Bashan. In Deuteronomy 4:43, it says, “Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites," one of the Tribes of Israel.

Sadat wanted to negotiate with Israel but the Israeli’s couldn’t care less at the time, thinking there’s nothing to be gained from talks. He then told his generals to devise a plan, and said get me 10 cm of the Sinai for political reasons to force them to the negotiating table. The Egyptian generals did an amazing job at that. In the end they lost, due to Jordanian treachery and Syrian incompetence, but Egypt achieved its objective ultimately and the Suez Canal is part of Egypt to this day.
