This is one of the most tragic scenes in the series. Here we get to see that before the Death Note corrupted them both Light and Misa where good innocent people. Sometimes we forget that for as many people that Light killed and for all the horrible things he did Light was a victim to. In fact he was both the first and last victim in the series
Light was already kind of corrupted, the reason why he even became insane is because of his god complex in the first place. His ego made him look everyone down. When the fake L called him out, he immediately killed him because his pride couldn't allow himself to be shown wrong to the public. Death note just allowed him to show his true colours. Misa isn't really that much corrupted, the only reason why she is doing everything is because of Light. It was more of an obsession rather than becoming insane because of the power she was given, which is understandable as Light saved her.

A subtle theme in Death Note, which idk if its THAT intentional, is that there is a clear difference between innocence and goodness. Innocence is protected by privilege and Light was privileged to even be bored and thus be moved by the Death Note. Goodness is tested and we see goodness primarily through the police force, who struggle towards it, even as they walk dirty paths.

And most of the evidence, even then, pointed to Light being Kira. Soichiro being the one to "do it" probably killed him, but he was staring down Kira. Though, at this point, Light had given up his memories of the Death Note, and even being Kira. So he was genuinely terrified he would be executed by his dad for no reason.
This shows a reflection of who Light used to be before he got the Death Note. An innocent, good man, part of me even wished he'd stay like that

@@jeremysimpson4584 it was more than a hunch. Plus he is a police officer, who's job is to catch killers.
With that said, light manipulated his father into his own death, then at the end of the series bad talked his father, because light thought himself as the saviour/God of the new world.
@@jeremysimpson4584 It was part of the investigation. L believed Kira could kill anyone in an instant. He didn't know he needed a secondary component. And most of the evidence, even then, pointed to Light being Kira. Soichiro being the one to "do it" probably killed him, but he was staring down Kira.
Though, at this point, Light had given up his memories of the Death Note, and even being Kira. So he was genuinely terrified he would be executed by his dad for no reason.
