This is my By Kilian Black Phantom Review (First Impressions) video. I have been a fan of By Kilian perfumes since 2012 now and always anticipate their fragrance releases. Finally this latest release called Black Phantom is one that I fell in love with and had to pick up. The fragrance is known for being a boozy, nutty gourmand Oriental fragrance. One of my favorite styles of fragrances. Gourmands are always delicious smelling and cozy comfy like eating comfort food. They are the types of scents to relax and enjoy and that is what I like about gourmand fragrances. By Kilian is known for releasing unique niche offerings and finally this latest release is quite nice and will be perfect to wear this coming fall season. Black Phantom by Kilian was created by Sidonie Lancesseur who has also created many other By Kilian fragrances that includes some of my favorites like Straight To Heaven, Apple Brandy, Cruel Intentions, Incense Oud and Light My Fire.

I bet you have figured out what "memento mori" means by now. But in case you haven't - It translates basically to "remember death" or "remember that you will die".
This inscription can be found in many places - often in places were rulers, kings etc. would be, or even in locales that were intended for festivities. Basically saying "you may be on top the world now - but one day you will die. Act accordingly."

You wondered what the relation ship between the scull, the name and the fragrance have to do with each other.
Their isn't actually Almond in this fragrance.
What you smell... Is cyanide.
Does the name, the box, make sense now?
The creativity of this frag is off the charts.

I have never sniffed this but I’ve been studying it to no end ... and the look of mischief that appears on your face when you sprayed this ... seals the deal ... tells me exactly what I was hoping for, will get this for next Fall .... our weather gets cold and I know this is it! 💞

Killian is on my wish list. A bit on the pricey side but sounds high quality. I love the note description and particularly like fragrances with a touch of vanilla. I prefer coffee notes over boosey notes.
Hi friend, big fan of your channel. This is absolutely my favorite fragrance right now. Instantly in my rotation, I think come winter it will be huge.
memento mori: remember you'll die some day (latin). hence the skull. it's a classic theme in western art (usually referred to as 'vanitas'). Very interested in smelling this. thanks for bringing it to my attention - i've not been infatuated with anything Kylian for years. My faves are all oeuvre noir: cruel intentions, black to back and (true to its name) a taste of heaven. Even if the draw has long finished, my favorite boozy frag currently is, easily, Oud Palao, favorite chocolate, Borneo 1832. I am in dire need of a good coffee scent, so perhaps this is the ticket :)
Kilian makes some great perfumes, the ones i end up buying, intoxocated & black phantom, my grilfriend loves smelling on me intoxicated, phantom is good, but she tells me intoxicated just loves it on me, so i can say you cannot go wrong for either, both are great
Ive tried 5-6 kilians, this was my favorite, still have to get my nose on single malt and apple brandy, such a lovely dark chocolate and coffee on the top)
My favorite coffee gourmand is probably New Haarlem. I do like Intense Cafe as I love rose but I find it harder to wear. Straight to Heaven is my favorite BK I've tried.
By Kilian is a house that I've never experienced before but I have heard great things about from all reviewers. I'm really getting into niche fragrance and the more I'm able to experience the better. My favorite coffee fragrance is Mugler's Pure Coffee, favorite boozy is Pure Malt & favorite chocolate is I Love New York for All by Bond no.9. Thanks again Seb!!! Connecticut
OMG!!!! O M G!!! have I tried it ..... YASSSS!!!! this is amazing!!!! I ended up buying a 100ml tester and a 7.5ml spray ( for my atomizer) I can not describe how awesome this scent is!! I don't need to win these samples but I would love to buy the skull box as my tester didn't have any presentation lol, so my favorite chocolate fragrance is Montale Chocolate Greedy, My favorite boozy fragrance is a tie between Bentley Intense and Pure Malt and my favorite coffee fragrance is Pure Tonka to me Pure Tonka smells like a very high end coffee shop/cafe.

Momento Mori is a Latin phrase that means "moment of death." Typically as a noun, it refers to an object that serves as a reminder that you will some day die, skulls obviously being a rather common symbol of the idea. Not sure how it relates to the fragrance outside of the packaging.
I own Black Phantom. The fragrance is addicting. It smells very luscious and mysterious. It draws people in... 😊

Love Black Phantom, delicious, and the chocolate is there the next morning.. Coffee: YSL Black Opium, Boozy: Cologne of the Missions. Chocolate: Dame's Chocolate Man. Montale Intense Café (I really don't get the coffee in it). Other by Kilians I like are Love and Beyond Love.
Phantom is a favorite story character from childhood.

I've only smelled Apple Brandy from By Killian and loved it. I'm a huge fan of gourmands! I need to explore more from this house. I haven't had a chance to get my nose on this one. Would love to sample it. My favorite Coffee fragrance is New Haarlem from Bond No. 9, it's sweet but still manages to smell great on my skin. My favorite Boozy fragrance is Pure Malt, hands down one of my top 5 overall. My favorite chocolate fragrance has to be Chocolate Greedy from Montale.

I would love to win a sample because I love gourmand scents and boozy scents; they are probably my favorite fragrance styles. My favorite coffee scent is probably New Haarlem, for the gourmand aspects. My favorite scent featuring chocolate or cacao is feve delicieuse. My favorite boozy scent is Guerlain Homme Intense for a dark, heavy mojito scent cause I really enjoy mojitos.
I bought this today (50 mil). The box is cheap and is horrible when you first spray it. It really is quite repugnant and smells of smoke. It is really nice on the dry down though.
I got a sample of this last month so I don't need one. Black Phantom blew me away with how good it was & I'm currently saving up for a full bottle. Montale's Cafe Rose was my favorite coffee until Black Phantom & my favorite chocolate Nasimotto's Pardon. I think Killian claims that Black Phantom is a rum/coffee drink that was a favorite of pirates which is why the box has a skull on it

I have decants of two Killian fragrances, cruel intentions and back to Black. Neither do it for me however this sounds like it could work for me especially with the cooler weather of the North East on its way. I don't have any coffee fragrances but as far as chocolate I love chocolate man by Dame Perfumery and for boozy it's ch man prive. Both work really well for me.

Angel's Share is really good but Black Phantom smells more original than Angel's Share! :)

I have been dieing to try Black Phantom. I'm not sure if I've tried a coffee fragrance before. But, I do like Jazz Club, Lira, Choco Violette, Creation E and even Noir Extreme

I smelt this and gagged. It smells like an ashtray. Zero caramel and sweetness to my nose. My nose needs to learn to get used to these niche scents 😅 I’ll get there eventually

Most of the reviews on Fragrantica are negative. Unbelievable sometimes what people are smelling. This is a beautiful gourmand fragrance.

Sounds really great. I'm also not understanding the coffret, but that's just my opinion. I can see how others would love it as a collector's item. Anyway, would love to try as gourmands are my thing and I've been hearing very positive comments on this one. My favorite coffee fragrance is Bond New Haarlem. Favorite boozy frag is by far Mugler Pure Malt. Favorite chocolate frag would have to be Dame Chocolate Man. Thanks for the review and for the giveaway. I live in Louisiana.

I don't know them for Summer Fragrances personally. But they do launch Eau Fraiche editions so perhaps those but I don't know them for fresh fragrances. Maybe Vodka On The Rocks but it's not one of my faves! On the other hand I love to wear Straight To Heaven in the summer. It sweetens up with the vanilla and the heat! :)
My favorite chocolate fragrance is Noir de Noir even tho there may not be a chocolate note in there lol. My favorite coffee fragrance is Intoxicated so I'm curious to smell this composition also by By Killian.

I don't own any full bottle Kilian frags but own a few samples and one thing I noticed about them,they don't have great performances. Pretty below average on my skin and for the price it goes,I don't think I will ever buy one.
Patrick Echevarria I sprayed Black Phanton at 8:30 pm and the next day around 1 pm my arms had the most delicious aroma ever! But thanks for pointing out other fragrances must be tested. Besides you can also add creme or oil to your skin to make the perfect last
Try Dark Knight by Alexandria.... smells 98% the same but with better performance

Smoke for the Soul is one of my all time favorite scents. I'm not huge on chocolate, coffee, boozy scents really. I dig Straight to Heaven, that has rum right? For coffee, intoxicated, and for chocolate I am actually hoping this one does the trick for me and that's why I'm wanting to sample it. Does A Men fit the bill? That would be my favorite of them all!

Momento mori? I haven't heard that term used in ages, but it refers to leaving behind gruesome artifacts, such as a the impales heads or hanging bodies of your enemies, posted as a warning for anyone who follows in their treacherous footsteps. Anyway, Black Phantom is kind of an interesting, yet morbid, look at fragrance. Heck, I'm wanting to try a sample....it's dark and By Kilian, who wouldn't wanna give it a try?
I'd love to try Black Phantom because I like coffee fragrances. One of my favorite coffee fragrances is John Varvatos Rock vol. 1. For chocolate, I enjoy Rochas Man. I like the boozy note in Frapin L'humaniste. I live in Maryland.

This is a very warm and delicious drink ... ah mean fragrance. To me I get a mixture of black to black, cruel intention and straight to Heaven etense all wrap into one. I love by Kilian bottles but can do without the coffin.
I'd like to win a sample because the way you describe it, it sounds exactly like something I'd wear. Also, I really like the presentation, so if I like the juice, I'd be far more tempted to buy this one.
I've had a chance to sniff any of BY kilian. But the presentation, coffin box and Refind detailing is just excellent. Bozy pure malt by thierry mugler. And pure coffee by thierry mugler. But Heard and read BY kilian has good Bozy and codes fragrances. Never tried saks before do they ship to Australia? Thanks For SAKS

Several of the notes mentioned can be found in hot chocolate or coffee made by Mexicans. So the skull could be a reference to the Dia de Muertos, which is in the Fall. Not really a fan of coffee. I generally use it to mask the scent of seafood or onions that have been cooked in my house. Nevertheless I would to try the fragrance. CA

The other is in the fragrance, the scent of Rich creamy Almonds that everyone smells in Black Phantom... It's actually Cyanide. So cool.
I got a chance to smell it at Saks in Michigan. I love B2B & Straight to Heaven. This fragrance is really unique and awe inspiring for the layers in this fragrance.

Coffee chocolate and rum. Didn't know if i was to wear this or drink it 😂. To be honest I did not like this dont get me wrong it's a very unusual unique smell but i don't particularly want to smell like coffee and chocolate. As always love your very accurate reviews

I've never try this one, my favourite is Straight to Heaven and Pure Malt from Mugler if we are talking about boozy stuff, Avant-Garde M. Micallef with cacao and chocolate notes, and I haven't try any coffee scent where coffee is main note, I hard a lot about Piotr Czarnecki's Shihan (Sensei) as good coffee scent. I tryed a sample to see if I would like it I love bozzy and I want a small collection of ones I love so I wanted one boozy and I saw this and had scents I wanted to try not a fan of sweet scents but I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH uts dark and sweet I need to buy this as soon as possible
I would like to win this bc I'm still trying to find a by Kilian that is FB worthy for me. I don't have a favorite coffee scent; the ones I've tried are a disappointment bc the coffee note is too weak. My favorite chocolate scent is Coromandel. My favorite boozy fragrance is Vince Camuto by Vince Camuto. I do like a well done gourmand, but it's not my favorite genre. I'm in the U.S. Thanks to you and Saks for the giveaway. I gotta say...the presentation would be much nicer w/o the skull...just my opinion!

hey. if u ever whatched the phanthom og the opera the movie you'll notice that the phanthom have a signet stam that leaves the same shape skull. i think kilian got inspiret from that.

They do not come in 100 ml bottles any more; they are now available in the new 35 ml bottles. I smelled both and the new small bottles smelled much nicer than the bigger bottle. I think it has been reformulated for the new size. It would be great to hear your thought regarding that. Thanks for the great videos and reviews👍

Not at all personally. No tobacco in BP but large doses of it in Shihan. So I find them very different. :)
