I loved it! Great performance. I've always admired that song. Kinda has that melodic darkness of FAIR WARNING. That album too is genius. But I digress. Thanks for the jams.
I agree the GGB has a darker attitude reminiscent of fair warning. Maybe this one is a little faster then some off fair warning? I hear it was written around spring 82 83 and then debuted at the US festival. Probably before or after dave threw his two cents in. Writing it.. what can i say. Them brothers were moody with this jam. 1984 seemed to kinda be the perfect send off for Dave. It had a little bit of everything to it.. the keyboards, the slow jams, the fast jams like this one.. the hot for teacher and panamas. That album in just 9 songs carries more weight than most bands have with 12 or 15. (Not naming names lol) Btw instrumentally this song is awesome. Such a vibe !
What an incredible song, what a incredible performance. Great job!! I saw them do it live at the Philly spectrum in 84 as a 16-year-old. One of my favorite Van Halen songs. Do you find this one of the more difficult Van Halen songs to play and learn?
@@waggz04 oh man that had to be a must back then to see! And, thank you! I found this song to be relatively simple only for the fact I've been playing in let's just say the patterns of ed for years now.. the rhythms were relatively simple to grasp. As far as the solo is concerned I learn mostly by ear. I try not to copy eds style through and through.. but I throw a lot of my own flavor and my own scales and little tricks I'm comfortable with in there as well, especially in the solos. But i really try to suit the song the best i can. I find it more experimental and fun for myself. I find it boring seeing the same cover played exactly like the record. My approach with these songs. Some like it some don't. Even Ed himself didn't play the solos note for note (at least in the early days) Lol. But I'm glad you appreciate it and I appreciate the question! I hope I answered it well :)
You’ve got it incredible technique. Spontaneous and amazing !
GREAT TONE !!! BADASSERY !!!!!!
